The Syk tyrosine kinase acts downstream of several immune receptors such as the FcγR. Syk owns two SH2 domains that interact with biphosphorylated ITAMs of the FcγR upon phagocytosis. This results in the activation of Syk by autophosphorylation, triggering phosphorylation of several downstream targets, F-actin polymerization, and phagocytosis of the IgG-opsonized target. We found that Syk is S-acylated upon phagocytosis by macrophages. Palmitoylation is performed on a single Syk-Cys by the DHHC5 enzyme that specifically associates with Syk upon phagocytosis. Syk palmitoylation is important for Syk localization to the phagocytic cup, phosphorylation, and phagocytosis. We observed that another Syk-Cys residue, within a redox motif, is modified by sulfenylation. Nevertheless, Syk desulfenylation seems to occur during phagocytosis, when H2O2 production at the cup decreases, after 3.5 min of phagocytosis. Molecular dynamics studies indicated that desulfenylation increased the exposure of a loop within the Syk interdomain B. This could facilitate phosphorylation of key Syk-Tyr residues by upstream kinases. We thus propose an updated model for Syk activation during FcγR-mediated phagocytosis that involves both Syk palmitoylation and desulfenylation.

Fires continue to occur all over the world, destroying cities, families, and -workplaces. The threat is even greater -when a fire breaks out in a high-rise building. This article presents a novel Internet of Things (IoT) architecture in order to improve fire safety in high-rise buildings. The proposed five-layered architecture facilitates secure evacuation and reduces the risk of asphyxiation as the main cause of death by fire. In addition, this IoT architecture calculates and locates the potential inhabitants stuck in the building and transmits the information to the rescue teams. A program is written in "Python 3" in order to examine the IOT architecture's decision-making layer in the high-rise "La Marseillaise" in Marseilles, France. This program by using machine learning algorithms such as Artificial Neural Network (ANN) and Support Vector Machine (SVM) succeeds in classifying the different zones of "La Marseillaise" according to the lethality of smoke with the accuracy of 98%. Based on this classification program sends the smart orders to the smoke extraction system to ventilate the in-danger zones further and thus reduce asphyxiation

The issue of limiting motorized traffic can sometimes generate unexpected problems. For example, the city centre of Strasbourg is crossed by a major motorway, which is constantly congested and polluted. This source of irritation is now at the heart of debates on urban planning. The public authorities wish to transform the route into a boulevard as well as to develop surrounding areas. Currently, the numerous vacant spaces around the transport infrastructure are used by various associations, whose right of residency is relatively unsettled. An increasing number of small illegal settlements can also be found here as well as in adjacent neighbourhoods. While the city council is implementing inclusive policies towards migrants, how can these issues be translated locally into urban planning tools? Strasbourg is an important transit point for migrants between France and Germany. Further, due to its border location, the city has always been an important hub for the exchange of ideas; in particular, new concepts of urban planning find fertile ground here. In order to transform the motorway, the public authorities intend to implement the German urban development tool known as the International Building Exhibition (German: Internationale Bauausstellung or IBA). In the following, we examine the IBAs of Hamburg and Berlin in order to try to identify good practices which could inspire French town planners and elected officials. This study is conducted through the prism of Henri Lefebvre’s book The Right to the City (1968).

The history of colonial cities seems relevant to explore the wealth of information that photography can bring to urban history but also to question the production context, the audience and the objectives, related to photographic images. The transformation of Casablanca and the construction of its "European city" are here analysed from two sets of photographs made between 1912 and 1929. The first is the result of a scientific program, the Archives de la Planète, funded by the banker Albert Kahn and coordinated by the geographer Jean Brunhes. The second is the result of Marcelin Flandrins’ professional activity, a photographer was based in Casablanca at the beginning of the century. These two series of photographs show the richness of views on colonial town planning and architecture.
