Test bed for rotation-based triboelectric nanogenerators.
The triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) has been attracting attention for electronic devices and sensors consuming low power. Among the few operating modes of the TENG, the rotation-based TENG provides a more continuous and smoother output than the linear-motion-based TENG. To evaluate the output performance of the rotation-based TENG precisely and quantitatively, a test bed that adjusts the eccentricity error, tilt angle error, contact force, and rotational speed is proposed. The test bed includes a motor, torque sensor, 2-axis planar stage, 2-axis tilting stage, 1-axis vertical stage, 3-degree-of-freedom force/torque (3-DOF F/T) sensor, and voice coil actuator. With the proposed test bed, the effects of the eccentricity error, tilt angle error, contact force, and rotational speed on the electrical output performance of the rotation-based TENG are analyzed. The test bed is expected to be used for quantitative performance analysis and comparative study of various rotation-based TENGs, and it can help improve the performance and reliability of rotation-based TENGs.

Electronic displays and cameras can provide an intuitive, simple communications interface without dependence on additional wireless interfaces or the Internet infrastructure. In this paper, we design a complementary color barcode-based optical camera communication (CCB-OCC) system to provide an easy-to-use communication capability from an electronic display-to-camera (D2C) link. The proposed method encodes information into specially designed color barcodes and transmits it in a format perceptually invisible to humans but detectable by camera-equipped devices. In addition, we propose a new transmission packet design that contains pilot symbols to synchronize symbol packets and estimate the D2C channel link for calibrating captured images caused by irregular differences between the sending color and the receiving color in the D2C link. Experimental results verify the feasibility of the CCB-OCC scheme for short-range communications to offer additional information which shows a new possibility in designing a D2C communication system with robust to environmental change, easy-to-use, and simple implementation.

Read moreP‐19: Effect of RTP Annealing Using UV and DUV Light on the Properties of the Al‐IZTO TFTs
In the oxide thin film transistors (TFTs), annealing process is necessary to improve its electrical properties, and generally performed by a furnace and an oven. Compared with them, rapid thermal process (RTP) can serve several advantages including much reduced process time and improved uniformity, which are more important factors in mass‐production industry. In addition to near‐infrared (NIR) lamp, generally used as a heat source, ultra‐violet (UV) and deep‐ultra‐violet (DUV) light sources can also be used in RTP system, and they can provide much higher energy, giving the possibility of more effective and efficient annealing. Herein, we studied the annealing effect of RTP system utilizing UV and DUV light source on the electrical properties of back‐channel etched aluminum‐doped indium zinc tin oxide thin film transistors (Al‐IZTO BCE TFTs).
Read moreFrequency ambiguity free tiered differential‐polyphase codes for GNSS signal design
To resolve frequency ambiguity of tiered polyphase code (TPC), a differential encoding method to the secondary code of the TPC is proposed. By performing differential decoding, the frequency ambiguity is removed and the code sequence boundary is correctly found. In addition, the correlation results at the receiver can be used as a frequency offset estimator. Analysis on the receiver operations and the simulation results show that the proposed tiered differential‐PC makes the code sequence boundary detection correctly under the frequency offset of up to several hundred hertz. The root mean squared error of the frequency offset estimation is reduced to <10 Hz under operating signal‐to‐noise power ratio which is about −35 dB.
Read moreDesign of a Decentralized Controller for a Glass RTP System
The design of a decentralized controller has been studied as an integral part of the development of a commercial rapid thermal processing (RTP) system for manufacturing display glass. The glass RTP system uses bulb-type tungsten-halogen lamps for heating. A highly uniform temperature distribution with a maximum temperature difference of less than 6 °C between any two points is required during glass processing, regardless of the size of the glass. In designing a decentralized controller that satisfies this requirement, the problems of optimal sensor location, lamp grouping, optimization-based controller tuning, and time-varying bias input signals were identified and solved. The performance of the controller was investigated experimentally and numerically.
