Wireless data aggregation (WDA) is a pivotal enabling technique in the era of Internet of Things (IoT). Recently, an emerging WDA method, over-the-air computation (AirComp), has been proposed to perform fast data aggregation, with improved spectrum utilization and shortened transmission delay. In this article, we consider a multi-cell AirComp system with single-input multiple-output (SIMO) communications. All users in the system share the same wireless spectrum. The mean squared error (MSE) is used as the metric to quantify the computation accuracy of each cell. To achieve the fairness of data aggregation among different cells, we formulate a unified optimization problem to minimize the MSE-based objective function, from the perspective of <inline-formula xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink"><tex-math notation="LaTeX">$\alpha$</tex-math></inline-formula> -fairness. Due to the non-convexity issue, the optimization problem is first divided into four cases according to the choice of <inline-formula xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink"><tex-math notation="LaTeX">$\alpha$</tex-math></inline-formula> . Thereafter, an efficient solution based on the block coordinate descent (BCD) method is proposed for each case. Specifically, in the first case, the optimal solutions are obtained for the beamforming at the AP and the power allocation at the user. In the second and third cases, a tractable solution to determine the power allocation is devised by adopting the successive convex approximation (SCA) method. In the last case, the majorization minimization (MM) method is applied to tackle the power allocation problem. Furthermore, by analyzing the MSE performance, we arrive at an in-depth insight. Namely, the impact of the inter-cell interference disappears when the number of antennas at the AP is sufficiently large. The effectiveness of our proposed schemes is validated by the numerical results.

High-throughput virtual materials and drug discovery based on density functional theory has achieved tremendous success in recent decades, but its power on organic semiconducting molecules suffered catastrophically from the self-interaction error until the optimally tuned range-separated hybrid (OT-RSH) exchange-correlation functionals were developed. The accurate but expensive first-principles OT-RSH transitions from a short-range (semi-)local functional to a long-range Hartree-Fock exchange at a distance characterized by the inverse of a molecule-specific, non-empirically-determined range-separation parameter (ω). In the present study, we proposed a promising stacked ensemble machine learning (SEML) model that provides an accelerated alternative of OT-RSH based on system-dependent structural and electronic configurations. We trained ML-ωPBE, the first functional in our series, using a database of 1,970 organic semiconducting molecules with sufficient structural diversity, and assessed its accuracy and efficiency using another 1,956 molecules. Compared with the first-principles OT-ωPBE, our ML-ωPBE reached a mean absolute error of 0:00504a_0^{-1} for the optimal value of ω, reduced the computational cost for the test set by 2.66 orders of magnitude, and achieved comparable predictive powers in various optical properties.

Panelists from various industry sub-segments involved with computer graphics and interactive techniques discuss preparation students must have to get initial access and employment in industry. Individual representatives talk both generally, and specifically (as examples) about their own companies. What entry-level applicants should have (and not have) on resumes, portfolios, and demo reels will be discussed and shown.Industry segments represented include game development/design, animation, special/visual effects, and production for motion pictures. Discussion includes preparation, training, and attributes students need to enter the workforce. Examining both short- and long-term needs, the panelists take a step back and look at trends and changes that have taken place and may take place.Questions considered include how schools can help students transition to industry, and what students can do on their own to be pro-active in obtaining requisite credentials. Getting noticed is a subject for discussion as well as what students should do/include and not do/include in demo reels and resumes as a way to help educators help students.
