(English) Machine Learning (ML) systems allow the efficient implementation of functionalities that can be hard to program by traditional software due to the high spectrum of inputs that hinder the definition of a specific procedural rule set. This characteristic of ML systems has encouraged their adoption in applications such as object detection or image classification in several safety-related domains, which are subject to safety certification. This certification is usually achieved by adhering to traditional functional safety standards such as IEC 61508 or ISO 26262. However, these standards were not devised to accommodate technologies such as ML in safety-related systems due to their development process, which is based on probabilistic models generated from training data, as opposed to traditional software components coded from specifications. Additionally, new challenges arise due to the fact that these ML algorithms need to process large volumes of data, and this requires High-Performance Embedded Computing (HPEC) platforms with computing capabilities far superior to traditional safety systems, such as multicore devices and GPU accelerators. Current functional safety standards do not provide explicit guidance for the use of HPEC platforms in safety-relevant systems, and the inherent complexity of those highly parallel architectures challenges certifications. With this Thesis, we attempt to address these challenges and give a step forward towards the functional safety certification of safety control systems integrating ML components in HPEC platforms. (Español) Los sistemas de aprendizaje automático (ML) permiten la implementación eficiente de funcionalidades que pueden ser difíciles de programar por el software tradicional debido al elevado espectro de entradas que dificultan la definición de un conjunto de reglas procedimentales específicas. Esta característica de los sistemas ML ha fomentado su adopción en aplicaciones como la detección de objetos o la clasificación de imágenes en diversos ámbitos relacionados con la seguridad, que están sujetos a certificación de seguridad. Esta certificación suele lograrse mediante la adhesión a las normas tradicionales de seguridad funcional, como IEC 61508 o ISO 26262. Sin embargo, estas normas no se concibieron para dar cabida a tecnologías como el ML en los sistemas relacionados con la seguridad debido a su proceso de desarrollo, que se basa en modelos probabilísticos generados a partir de datos de entrenamiento, a diferencia de los componentes de software tradicionales codificados a partir de especificaciones. Además, surgen nuevos retos debido a que estos algoritmos de ML necesitan procesar grandes volúmenes de datos, lo que requiere plataformas de computación embebidas de alto rendimiento (HPEC) con capacidades de cálculo muy superiores a las de los sistemas de seguridad tradicionales, como dispositivos multinúcleo y aceleradores con GPUs. Las actuales normas de seguridad funcional no proporcionan orientaciones explícitas para el uso de plataformas HPEC en sistemas relevantes para la seguridad, y la complejidad inherente a esas arquitecturas altamente paralelas supone un reto para las certificaciones. Con esta Tesis, intentamos abordar estos retos y dar un paso adelante hacia la certificación de seguridad funcional de los sistemas de control de seguridad que integran componentes ML en plataformas HPEC.

Introducción La radioterapia guiada por resonancia magnética (RTgRM) representa el último avance hasta la fecha en el intento por controlar al máximo la dosis de radiación y tratar de preservar los tejidos adyacentes a la zona tumoral. Se trata de equipos híbridos que permiten realizar un seguimiento en vivo del tratamiento radioterápico y de esta forma realizar adaptaciones en el plan preestablecido. Objetivo Evaluar la eficacia, seguridad y eficiencia de la radioterapia guiada por resonancia magnética. Métodos Revisión sistemática de la literatura, incluyendo informes de evaluación de tecnologías, revisiones sistemáticas y metaanálisis. Para su elaboración se consultaron las siguientes bases de datos referenciales hasta octubre de 2021 (con lenguaje libre y controlado): Medline, EMBASE, Web of Science, PubMed, Cochrane Library e International HTA Database. También se exploraron NICE y la web de CADTH. La selección de los estudios y el análisis de su calidad se realizaron por dos investigadores independientes. La síntesis de los resultados se llevó a cabo de forma cualitativa. La calidad de los estudios fue evaluada mediante la herramienta AMSTAR-2 para revisiones sistemáticas. El estudio de evaluación económica se basó en dos tipos de análisis: coste-efectividad a partir de la reducción de toxicidades gastrointestinales y genitourinarias de RTgRM frente a radioterapia guiada por tomografía computerizada (RTgTC, % de pacientes sin toxicidades) y coste-utilidad a partir de las ganancias de utilidad de una técnica frente a la otra. Resultados De un total de 269 referencias, se incluyeron 4 estudios que son informes de síntesis de cuatros agencias de evaluación de tecnología sanitaria. En ninguno de los trabajos se incluyeron ECAs ni estudios comparativos prospectivos. Todas las conclusiones se basan en evidencia retrospectiva o series de casos de los que se ha podido extraer información muy concreta con escasos parámetros. En uno de los informes sólo se obtuvo información sobre la variación en la densidad pulmonar antes y después del tratamiento radioterápico, no encontrándose diferencias entre el tratamiento con RTgRM y con acelerador lineal convencional. En otro trabajo el análisis halló diferencias a favor de la utilización de un plan de adaptación, con la que se produjo significativamente menor número de violaciones de las restricciones. Los valores indirectos de supervivencia fueron similares en RTgRM y RT convencional o entre RTgRM y radioterapia guiada por tomografía computeriaza de haz cónico (RTgCBCT) en cáncer de pulmón y hepatocarcinoma, aunque sí hubo una mejoría en la supervivencia global en el cáncer de cabeza y cuello (96% frente a 75%). Mediante comparaciones indirectas se registra toxicidad gastrointestinal aguda en un 7% de pacientes tratados con RTgRM frente a menos de 1% de tratados con RTgCBCT. En cáncer de cabeza y cuello la toxicidad aguda se da en un 44% de pacientes tratados con RTgRM frente a un 54% de tratados con RTgCBCT. Tras el análisis de coste-efectividad y coste utilidad se determina que la RTgRM es eficiente frente a RTgTC en el tratamiento con hipofraccionamiento (niveles de 50 Gy en 5 fracciones de 10 Gy) de los pacientes con cáncer de próstata. Conclusiones La evidencia localizada presenta importantes limitaciones que dificultan una conclusión definitiva sobre la efectividad y la seguridad de la radioterapia guiada por resonancia magnética para todas las indicaciones revisadas. El análisis de coste-efectividad y coste-utilidad considerando las diferencias en toxicidades en el tratamiento del cáncer de próstata identifican como coste-efectiva a la RTgRM frente a RTgTC en el caso de emplear tratamientos hipofraccionados.

To obtain an appropriate fit for reflection spectrum, the classic Drude–Lorentz model for parametric di–electric function is used. The best fitting parameters are determined to simulate the reflection spectrum using Lovenberg–Marquardt optimization method. The simulated reflectivity from the derived optical constants and thickness are in good agreement with experimental results. Healthcare-Associated Infections (HAIs) are a serious problem forneonates when admitted to NICUs. The healthcare environment and healthcareworkers' hands may be a source of transmission. Therefore, there is a need tofind microbial sources and identify the contaminants to improve disinfectionprotocols to reduce HAIs. Out of the 169 samples collected on nutrient agarmedia from NICUs of a hospital in Saudi Arabia, 122 bacterial strains wereisolated and some were identified as infection-causing bacteria. The samplescollected from various surfaces, equipment, and nurses’ hands were divided intotwo groups. One of which was collected from close proximities of patients tothe source of infection and the second was collected from a distance. Thetested inanimate environments included incubators, oxygen monitors, heartmonitors, temperature monitors, intravenous, stethoscopes, tables, IV trolleys,weighing scales, windows, and sinks. The results showed that all testedequipment and surrounding surfaces were contaminated with various species ofbacteria except the sinks. Out of 122 bacterial samples, 78 isolates wereidentified as cocci and 44 as bacilli. Also, 105 isolates were Gram-positiveand 17 were Gram-negative. Using 16S rRNA gene sequencing techniques, 11 generaof bacteria namely, Enterococcus, Staphylococcus, Bacillus, Pseudomonas,Micrococcus, Escherichia, Enterobacter, Klebsiella, Citrobacter, lelliottia,and Acinetobacter were isolated and identified. The most isolated andwidely spread bacteria was S. epidermidis, which was followed by B. cereus.Some of these strains were found resistant to several antibiotics whensusceptibility tests were performed by using Vitek 2 with cards (AST-GP67,AST-N292, AST-N291). The present study showed some bacterial species posethreats to the health of hospitalized babies; hence it is important to improvedisinfection protocols in neonatal ICU to ensure the safety of baby patients.

Triptycene Barrelene Anthracene (TBA) is a polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon consisting of three benzene rings. The name TBA is a composite of phenyl and TBA. In its pure form, it is found in cigarette smoke and is a known irritant, photosensitizing skin and industrial carcinogenic wastewater. Cadmium Oxide (CdO) is an inorganic compound with the formula CdO. It is one of the main precursors to other cadmium compounds. It crystallizes in a cubic rocksalt lattice-like sodium chloride, with octahedral cation and anion centers. It occurs naturally as the rare mineral monteponite. CdO can be found as a colorless amorphous powder or as brown or red crystals. CdO is an n-type semiconductor with a bandgap of 2.18 eV (2.31 eV) at room temperature (298 K). DNA/RNA, CdO and DNA/RNA–CdO sandwiched complex was characterized by Attenuated Total Reflection–Fourier Transform–Infrared (ATR–FTIR) spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, X–Ray Diffraction (XRD) technique and Energy–Dispersive X–Ray (EDAX) spectroscopy. The modified anti–cancer-protective membrane was characterized by Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), EDAX analysis, 3D–Atomic–Force Microscopy (3D–AFM), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) and contact angle analyses and methods. The current study is aimed to use Polysorbate 80 as a surfactant for investigating the effectiveness of permeate TBA on the Polyether Ether Ketone (PEEK) anti–cancer-protective membrane and the effect of loading DNA/RNA–CdO sandwiched complex on hydrophilicity and anti-cancer properties. The results showed decreasing surface pore size from 227 to 176 and increasing porosity from 101 to 111 with loading DNA/RNA–CdO sandwiched complex, and the permeate of anti–cancer-protective membrane increased from 80 to 220 (L/m2. hr. bar) with loading DNA/RNA–CdO sandwiched complex.

In the current research, diagnosis of gum cancer cells from DNA/RNA using database mining and support vector regression through high resolution 4D HPCH experiment for sequential assignment of 13C-labeled DNAs/RNAs in gum cancer cells are investigated.Diagnosis of gum cancer in biopsy samples relies on morphological analysis using the expertise of histopathologists or cytologists who have many years' experience in viewing these specimens.This is augmented by techniques which allow gum cancer specific markers to be visualized using diagnosis of gum cancer cells from DNA/RNA using database mining and support vector regression through high resolution 4D HPCH experiment for sequential assignment of 13C-labeled DNAs/RNAs in gum cancer cells, where gene profiles can be visualized using microarray platforms.Characteristic translocations can be detected using fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH), particularly in haematopathology.The use of optical methods to interrogate gum cancer cells is developing rapidly and diagnosis of gum cancer cells from DNA/RNA using database mining and support vector regression through high resolution 4D HPCH experiment for sequential assignment of 13C-labeled DNAs/RNAs in gum cancer cells provides a new modality, which shows much promise.
