Anteo (Norway)

EnglishFirstly, it is proposed that the name tingentera / tingenteria, attributed by Mela to his place of birth, Iulia Traducta (?), was originally the place of birth of Tinjis, since according to several Greek sources she was known as Thymiat—eria / Thymiaterion. The heroine’s name would therefore be the eponym of the city, to which the epithet «the sweet» was then added in Punic. This description is opposed to the violence demonstrated by Antaeus, her real husband, who was beaten and killed by Herakles, who some Tingitans seemed to worship. All this demonstrates that the Greek legend was accepted as one of their own in Tingi, and incorporates some elements of a Melquart Arquegeta. The figure of Antaeus was given more importance, partly eliminating his portrayal as a native antihero.
