Gargle sample is an effective option in a novel fully automated molecular point-of-care test for influenza: a multicenter study
BackgroundWe conducted a multicenter study to evaluate the performance of a novel fully automated molecular point-of-care test using transcription-reverse transcription concerted reaction that can detect influenza A and B within 15 min in nasopharyngeal swabs and gargle samples (TRCsatFLU).MethodsPatients who visited or were hospitalized at eight clinics and hospitals with influenza-like illnesses between December 2019 and March 2020 participated in this study. We collected nasopharyngeal swabs from all patients and gargle samples from patients whom the physician judged fit to perform gargling. The result of TRCsatFLU was compared to a conventional reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). If the results of TRCsatFLU and conventional RT-PCR were different, the samples were analyzed by sequencing.ResultsWe evaluated 233 nasopharyngeal swabs and 213 gargle samples from 244 patients. The average age of the patients was 39.3 ± 21.2. Of the patients, 68.9% visited a hospital within 24 h of symptom onset. The most common symptoms were fever (93.0%), fatigue (79.5%), and nasal discharge (64.8%). All patients in whom the gargle sample was not collected were children. Influenza A or B was detected in 98 and 99 patients in nasopharyngeal swabs and gargle samples using TRCsatFLU, respectively. Four and five patients in nasopharyngeal swabs and gargle samples, respectively, with different TRCsatFLU and conventional RT-PCR results. Influenza A or B was detected using sequencing in all samples with different results. Based on the combined conventional RT-PCR and sequencing results, the sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV), and negative predictive value (NPV) of TRCsatFLU for influenza detection in nasopharyngeal swabs were 0.990, 1.000, 1.000, and 0.993, respectively. In the gargle samples, the sensitivity, specificity, PPV, and NPV of the TRCsatFLU for detecting influenza were 0.971, 1.000, 1.000, and 0.974, respectively.ConclusionsThe TRCsatFLU showed great sensitivity and specificity for the detection of influenza in nasopharyngeal swabs and gargle samples.Trial registration: This study was registered in the UMIN Clinical Trials Registry (reference number: UMIN000038276) on October 11, 2019. Before sample collection, written informed consent for the participation and publication of this study was obtained from all participants.
Read moreASSESSMENT OF PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT AND PHYSICAL PERFORMANCE OF SECONDARY SCHOOL AGE CHILDREN: ANALYSIS OF THE RESULTS OF THE SINGLE-STAGE RESEARCH
To determine the level of physical development of the children involved in the study. The main indicators of their physical development were assessed by the method of standards and height-weight index of the WHO. The height rates of all girls and 96 percent of boys were within the normal range. The determination of conformity degree of body weight and its height by the index method showed that only 42 percent of the boys were within the norms, the rest of the boys were overweight (pre-obesity) and different degrees of obesity. The indicators of 27 percent of the girls were normal, in the rest of cases, overweight and varying degrees of obesity were also observed. To assess physical preparation, the results of the children's fitness tests were assessed with age normative and model scales. During the analysis, it was revealed: 73 percent of boys and 85 percent of girls had endurance indicators (running 1000 m boys and 500 m girls) at the level of average and below average; indicators of speed of movement (20-meter sprint from the course) in 71 percent of boys were high and above average level, and 88 percent of girls)_average, above average and high; the indicators of strength for pulling up on the crossbar in 71 percent of boys were at the above average level, in 45 percent of girls the indicators of push-ups on the gymnastic bench were at a high level; the indicators of speed-strength for jumping from a place in 70 percent of boys and girls were at the level of average and above average; in 94 percent of boys and girls, the results of the sit and reach test were at a low level. A low level of physical performance was also revealed: according to the Rufier-Dixon test, 56 percent of the pupils had indicators at a level below average, 14 percent had an unsatisfactory level.
Read moreAPPLICATION OF PHYSICAL THERAPY IN CASE OF HYPOTHYROIDISM AS AN ATTEMPT OF SYMPTOMIC TREATMENT
The aims of the research are to fix hypothyroidism-specific pathological manifestations existing in the musculoskeletal system, to reveal issues pertaining to daily physical activity. The task of the research is to design up an individual program of physical therapy and give recommendations based on the symptoms of the disease and on the patient's well-being. The analysis of research results apparently indicated that the test person’s muscle trigger points disappeared. Exercises of medium and moderate intensity did not result in any positive changes over the muscles, unlike stretching exercises that helped the pain syndrome decrease for a short period of 30 minutes. In case of hypothyroidism, exercise or physical therapy is considered to be a symptomatic treatment. Post-isometric muscle relaxation mechanisms help relieve muscle spasms and pains and lead to the solution of a range of situational problems. In order to stabilize the positive result in the body, it is highly recommended to continue the physical therapy for at least 1 year and record the research adequate data in parallel.
Read moreINTERCONNECTION BETWEEN HUMANISTIC VALUES OF OLYMPISM AND FOOTBALL
The aim of the research is to identify the interconnection between humanistic values of football and Olympism. The work is a purely theoretical study. Based on a retrospective study of literary sources the authors made an attempt to introduce the patterns of football in modern conditions against the backdrop of the Olympic values transmission. The analysis of results disclosed further possibilities of Olympic education aimed at preserving and developing Olympic human values. The model of Olympism shaped among proponents provides ample opportunities to disseminate the Olympic ideas through Olympic sports, in our case, football.
Read moreCHARACTERISTICS OF COORDINATION ABILIIES IN BOXING
The aim of the research is to analyze the data presented by different authors on the coordinative abilities of boxers. More than 50 sources in Armenian, Russian and English were analyzed, including textbooks, articles, manuals, advanced web search, and the most important of them are presented in this article. The analysis of the literature revealed that the classifications of coordinative abilities, as well as the terminological-conceptual system, have not been fully specified yet. There are significant differences in the characteristics of coordinative abilities of boxers presented by Armenian and foreign authors. Differences in the characteristics of the coordinative abilities of boxers are partly due to its complex structure, various manifestations and the lack of common evaluation criteria.

Based on the comparison of flexural accuracy data of the forearm through all three ranges of movements among women aged 55-64 almost the same scenery of spatial accuracy was disclosed. Whereas the comparison of indicators associated with the forearm movement performed by women aged 55-64 and 65-75 demonstrated the identical scenery as for the differentiation indicators of bilateral limb movements. The difference between the indicators (errors) of bilateral limbs corresponds to 0.25 and 0.63 grades, while the average of all comparisons makes up 1.12 grades. It is clearly outlined that health improving physical culture trainings and exercises with both limbs, performed in both clockwise and anti-clockwise direction, contributed to maintaining the forms of movement accuracy in line with the previously shaped grade.
