Read moreEnhanced Bioavailability and Health Benefits of Blueberry Anthocyanins: An Updated Review on Mechanisms and Approaches.
Blueberries are highly valued for their nutritional content, primarily due to their high anthocyanin content, which is the principal bioactive compound contributing to their health-enhancing properties. Extensive research has established that blueberry anthocyanins exhibit significant antioxidant activity and confer various health benefits, including anti-cardiovascular, anti-diabetic, anti-inflammatory, and anticancer effects, as well as enhancements in cognitive function and visual acuity. Nonetheless, the chemical instability of anthocyanins, influenced by environmental factors such as temperature, light, oxygen, pH, and enzymatic activity, presents a substantial challenge for their effective application, leading to reduced stability, limited bioavailability, and decreased efficacy in functional foods and nutraceuticals. Using a defined search strategy focused on recent advances, this review synthesizes the chemical structures, biological activities, and health benefits of blueberry anthocyanins and critically examines strategies to improve their stability and bioavailability, including nanoparticulate systems, microencapsulation, based on delivery systems like protein, polysaccharides, liposomes, multiple emulsions, and composite delivery systems. Additionally, this review underscores the current research status and translational prospects for the industrial application of blueberry anthocyanins while also considering key scalability issues, including carrier regulation, sensory effects, and shelf-life stability. Developing practical approaches to enhance anthocyanin stability and bioavailability is crucial for maximizing their therapeutic potential and advancing the use of blueberries as functional foods.
Read moreEnhanced corrosion resistance, wear behavior, and biocompatibility of Ti-6Al-4V alloy for bone implants
Ti-6Al-4V alloy is extensively utilized in biomedical applications such as bone implants due to its high corrosion resistance, favorable mechanical features, and biocompatibility. In this study, a short-time duplex aging treatment at different aging temperatures of 350, 450, 500, 550, 600, and 700 o C was conducted on solution-treated alloys. The microstructural observations revealed a bimodal structure consisting of globular α and α/β lamellae. By increasing the aging temperature, the globular α phase and lamellae experienced growth. With an increase in aging temperature, the strength values decreased while elongation increased. Also, the hardness of aged alloys increased after aging. The hardness grew as the aging temperature decreased. Similarly, the wear resistance improved as the aging temperature decreased. Additionally, the main wear mechanisms were abrasive wear, adhesive wear, and delamination. The aged alloys were less worn at lower aging temperatures, especially after the second stage of aging. Based on the result of in-vitro corrosion, the aged samples showed better corrosion resistance compared to the solution-treated one. In addition, the surfaces were less corroded after the second stage of aging compared to the first stage of aging. Also, an increase in aging temperature resulted in a greater thickness of the oxide layer and enhanced corrosion resistance. Furthermore, a better cytotoxic response of alloys was obtained after employing aging treatment. As the surface roughness and the thickness of the oxide layer increased, improved interaction between chondrocytes and alloys was observed, demonstrating its excellent potential as bone implants.
Read moreThe invisible backpack: how push-pull factors drive healthcare students’ cross-cultural learning attitudes and career identity
Studying abroad has become an increasingly significant pathway for students seeking academic, professional, and personal growth in a globalized world. This review paper explores the dynamic relationship between push-pull factors and international students’ attitudes toward studying abroad, with a particular focus on the motivations and barriers that shape these perceptions. By synthesizing findings from existing literature and enrollment trends, the study identifies key factors influencing students’ decisions to pursue education abroad. Push factors, such as limited educational opportunities and socio-economic challenges in students’ home countries, are shown to significantly drive the decision to study abroad, while pull factors such as the prestige of foreign institutions and enhanced career prospects positively influence attitudes. Special attention is given to the context of healthcare education, where international training can address workforce shortages and promote cultural competency among practitioners. The findings offer valuable insights for educational policymakers and institutions, emphasizing the importance of understanding these motivational dynamics to attract and retain international students in healthcare disciplines. The paper concludes by proposing strategies that could facilitate global mobility and collaboration in healthcare education, ultimately contributing to better healthcare outcomes worldwide.
Read more64. The characteristics of emotional disorders in logistics industry and the effect analysis of evidence based nursing model
Abstract Background With the rapid development of e-commerce and modern supply chains, the size of the logistics industry continues to increase, and their work is characterized by high intensity, high timeliness, and high risk. Long term work pressure, irregular sleep patterns, and occupational safety hazards make this group a high-risk group for emotional disorders. Exploring the characteristics of emotional disorders among logistics employees and evaluating the effects of structured nursing intervention are of great practical significance for ensuring the healthy development of the industry and improving the well-being of employees. By analyzing the epidemiological characteristics of emotional disorders among logistics practitioners and testing the intervention effect of a structured evidence-based nursing model, this study aims to provide empirical evidence and feasible intervention plans for promoting mental health of this group. Methods This study adopts a mixed research method and conducts a cross-sectional survey to conduct sample evaluations on employees in a large logistics hub. From the participants who were screened to have mild to moderate symptoms of anxiety or depression, 160 people were randomly selected and divided into intervention group (n = 80) and control group (n = 80). The intervention group received an evidence-based structured cognitive behavioral and supportive group care model, which included: psychoeducation, stress cognitive restructuring, relaxation training, problem-solving skills and peer support group activities, once a week for 90 minutes each time. The control group received routine mental health brochures. Before the intervention, at the end of the intervention and 3 months after the intervention, the Generalized Anxiety Disorder Scale (GAD-7), Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9), Occupational Burnout Inventory (MBI-GS) and Short Form of Quality of Life (SF-12) were used for evaluation respectively. Repeated measures analysis of variance and multiple regression analysis were used to process the data. Results The results showed that the detection rate of anxiety symptoms among logistics employees was 38.2%, and the detection rate of depressive symptoms was 31.6%, significantly higher than that of the general adult population. The end of the 8-week intervention and at the 3-month follow-up, the emotional exhaustion and depersonalization dimension scores of the intervention group in GAD-7, PHQ-9 and MBI-GS were significantly lower than those in the control group (p<.01), while the mental health dimension score of SF-12 was significantly improved (p<.01). The results show that the proposed evidence-based nursing model can effectively alleviate the emotional disorder symptoms of logistics practitioners, reduce work burnout. Discussion This study shows that an evidence-based nursing model that integrates cognitive behavioral techniques and peer support systems can effectively alleviate the anxiety and depression symptoms of this group, reduce occupational burnout, and improve their subjective mental health. Mental health intervention for high-pressure occupational groups such as logistics should go beyond individual psychological adjustment, embed awareness of the stress of the occupational environment, and focus on building supportive social networks. Future research will further explore comprehensive strategies that combine such psychological intervention with the optimization of organizational management of logistics enterprises to achieve more fundamental and extensive health promotion.
Read moremiR-4652-3p suppresses glutamine metabolism induced by the inflammatory microenvironment in non-small cell lung cancer by regulating MYC/SLC1A5
Abstract Background MicroRNAs (miRNAs) play a crucial role in tumorigenesis and malignant transformation. Studies indicate that miR-4652-3p is aberrantly expressed in various cancer types. However, its impact and underlying mechanisms in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) have not been investigated. Methods A549 cells were stimulated with IL-1β, TNF-α, and IL-6 (each at 10 ng/ml) to mimic an inflammatory microenvironment. Metabolic status was evaluated by measuring glutamine uptake, α-ketoglutarate (α-KG), and ATP levels. Functional studies employed the glutaminase inhibitor (CB-839), the MYC inhibitor (10058-F4), SLC1A5 small interfering RNA (siSLC1A5-2), a miR-4652-3p mimic, and overexpression plasmids. Molecular interactions were validated using chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP), dual-luciferase reporter assays, and RNA pull-down experiment. CCK-8 and Transwell assays were used for the assessment of cell malignant phenotypes. The functional significance of miR-4652-3p was further verified in a xenograft mouse model. Results miR-4652-3p was downregulated in NSCLC, while MYC and SLC1A5 were upregulated. Inflammatory stimulation enhanced A549 cell proliferation, glutamine uptake, and α-KG/ATP production; these effects were attenuated by CB-839. ChIP and dual-luciferase assays demonstrated that MYC binds the SLC1A5 promoter and activates its transcription. Inhibiting MYC or knocking down SLC1A5 significantly reduced glutamine uptake. Mechanistic analysis revealed that miR-4652-3p directly targets both MYC and SLC1A5 mRNA. miR-4652-3p suppressed glutamine metabolism in NSCLC cells by negatively regulating the MYC/SLC1A5 axis, consequently inhibiting cell growth and tumor progression in a xenograft mouse model, an effect reversed by MYC or SLC1A5 overexpression. Conclusions miR-4652-3p blocked the inflammatory microenvironment-induced glutamine metabolic reprogramming by directly suppressing the MYC/SLC1A5 axis, thereby inhibiting NSCLC progression. The miR-4652-3p/MYC/SLC1A5 pathway represents a key regulatory mechanism for metabolic adaptation in NSCLC.

Local vegetables and spices are essential components of traditional food and health systems in northeastern Thailand, yet quantitative ethnobotanical evidence remains limited. This study documents the diversity, utilization, and cultural significance of vegetables and spices used in Sang Kho Sub-district, Phu Phan District, Sakon Nakhon Province. Ethnobotanical data were collected in 2025 through field surveys, voucher-based plant identification, semi-structured interviews, and participant observation involving 92 informants across 23 villages. Cultural significance and medicinal knowledge were evaluated using the Cultural Importance Index (CI), Informant Consensus Factor (FIC), and Fidelity Level (FL). A total of 113 taxa belonging to 94 genera and 49 plant families were recorded. Poaceae and Zingiberaceae were the most species-rich families. Native species slightly predominated (51.33%), and herbaceous taxa were most common. Leaves were the most frequently used plant part. Most taxa were used as vegetables (92 species), followed by traditional medicines (20 species), spices or seasonings (18 species), and food ingredients or culinary additives (18 species). The highest CI values were recorded for Allium ascalonicum L. (1.152), Capsicum annuum L. (1.098), and Coriandrum sativum L. (1.043). FIC values ranged from 0.60 to 1.00, with complete consensus for circulatory and neurological disorders. Cymbopogon citratus showed the highest FL (75%) for gastrointestinal uses. These findings demonstrate the close integration of food and medicine in local plant-use systems and provide baseline data for food system resilience and cultural knowledge conservation.
