Background and Aims: Wushu is a significant component of Chinese traditional culture, integrating physical training, artistic expression, and philosophical values. However, its promotion in modern universities remains limited due to insufficient resources, weak cultural integration, and low student participation. This study aimed to develop comprehensive guidelines to promote and sustain Wushu culture among university students at Jimei University, Fujian Province. Methodology: The sample included 379 first-year students (male and female, aged 18–20 years) selected through stratified sampling, and 25 physical education teachers purposively included from Jimei University. In addition, 7 experts participated in interviews, 9 experts in focus group discussions, and 7 experts in a connoisseurship validation session. Research tools consisted of questionnaires, interview guides, focus group protocols, and validation forms. The validity of the instruments was confirmed using the Index of Item-Objective Congruence (IOC) (student questionnaire = 0.87; teacher questionnaire = 0.91; interview form = 0.93). Quantitative data were analyzed using mean and standard deviation, while qualitative data were examined through thematic content analysis. Results: The findings highlighted that students and teachers recognized the cultural importance of Wushu but identified critical barriers such as inadequate funding, limited cultural elements in curricula, and low engagement. The developed guideline was organized under the POLC framework: (1) Planning, clear objectives, needs assessment, partnerships, and annual planning; (2) Organizing, funding allocation, management teams, instructor development, and integrated curricula; (3) Leading, student engagement, motivational leadership, campus promotion, and communication; (4) Controlling, performance monitoring, feedback systems, teaching evaluation, and policy review. Conclusion: The study produced a systematic, practical, and culturally relevant guideline for managing and promoting Wushu culture in universities. The model not only improves student engagement and cultural identity but also provides universities with sustainable strategies for integrating traditional culture into modern higher education. These guidelines benefit students, teachers, administrators, and policy makers, contributing to both cultural preservation and educational innovation.

Read moreWhen expertise recalibrates perception: skill-dependent dissociation between perceived effort and objective force in calligraphy
IntroductionExpertise is traditionally associated with enhanced perceptual accuracy, yet we demonstrate a paradoxical pattern in skilled motor performance: greater expertise corresponds to systematic functional recalibration of effort perception relative to objective force. This study examined how calligraphy skill development alters perceived effort and its consequences for aesthetic judgment, from an embodied cognition perspective.MethodsSixty calligraphy learners (20 novices, 20 intermediates, 20 experts) wrote five standard Chinese characters while pressure sensors and surface electromyography simultaneously recorded pen-tip pressure, upper limb muscle activation, and subjective effort ratings. Professional judges evaluated the aesthetic quality of all works.ResultsResults revealed systematic skill-dependent perceptual recalibration: experts’ perceived effort deviated from actual pressure by 60% (recalibration index = 0.347), 4.5 times greater than novices’ 15% deviation (0.078), with intermediates showing 40% deviation (0.201). This functional recalibration was strongly associated with muscle synergy reorganization (r = 0.74): experts developed a “proximal-dominant, distal-refined” activation pattern, with increased shoulder and arm muscle engagement despite reduced pen-tip pressure. Critically, in predicting aesthetic ratings, perceived effort was a powerful predictor (β = 0.58, p < 0.001) while actual pressure showed no predictive value (β = 0.02, p = 0.658). Mediation analysis revealed that perceptual recalibration accounted for 63.2% of skill level’s effect on aesthetic judgment.DiscussionThese findings suggest that perception in skilled performance undergoes functional recalibration to optimize task performance, reflecting an adaptive reorganization shaped by embodied experience rather than veridical representation of physical force. The systematic perceptual recalibration with expertise reveals that expert perception prioritizes task-relevant functional information over veridical physical accuracy.
Read moreAn investigation on the Frictional Stick-Slip Effect of Train Brake Blocks on Slack Adjuster
Friction-induced vibration is a critical issue in railway tread brake systems, as it can affect braking stability, wear, and the dynamic response of mechanically connected components. This study numerically investigates the self-excited vibration behavior of a tread brake unit and its interaction with a slack adjuster compensator under braking conditions. A simplified single-degree-of-freedom dynamic model incorporating a velocity-dependent Coulomb friction formulation is developed to analyze the vibration response of the brake block under continuous sliding conditions. The governing nonlinear differential equation is solved using the Runge–Kutta method, and time- and frequency-domain analyses are performed to identify dominant vibration characteristics. The numerical results indicate the presence of low-frequency self-excited vibration induced by dry friction, while the contact interface remains in a continuous sliding regime and no classical stick–slip transition involving intermittent adhesion is observed. The dominant vibration frequency is approximately 0.35 Hz, reflecting the global mass–stiffness dynamics of the brake unit rather than high-frequency stick–slip or squeal phenomena. A finite element modal analysis of the slack adjuster compensator shows that its natural frequencies are several orders of magnitude higher than the dominant vibration frequency, indicating that resonance is unlikely under the investigated operating conditions. The findings provide insight into friction-induced vibration mechanisms in railway tread brake systems and their implications for vibration safety and structural integrity.

An anthracene-based molecular rotor as a theranostic agent for viscosity sensing and imaging-guided photodynamic therapy.
Viscosity variations within cellular microenvironments are closely associated with pathological states such as cancer, motivating the development of molecular probes that integrate environmental sensing with therapeutic function. Here, we report two anthracene-fused heptamethine cyanine molecular rotors, ASCy7 (asymmetric) and SCy7 (symmetric), designed as heavy-atom-free near-infrared (NIR) materials for combined viscosity sensing and imaging-guided photodynamic therapy (PDT). Anthracene π-extension enhances intramolecular charge transfer and spin-orbit coupling, thereby promoting intersystem crossing and efficient singlet oxygen generation under 850 nm irradiation. Both probes exhibit strong viscosity-dependent fluorescence via the twisted intramolecular charge transfer (TICT) mechanism and show selective mitochondrial localization in HepG2 cells. Upon NIR activation, ASCy7 and SCy7 induce reactive oxygen species-mediated apoptosis with IC50 values as low as 0.39 µM, while maintaining excellent dark biocompatibility. This work establishes π-extension engineering as an effective materials design strategy to integrate environmental responsiveness and photodynamic activity within a single NIR cyanine platform for cancer theranostics.
