Abstract Trauma is endemic, and there has been a significant increase in awareness of the effects of trauma on individuals and adoption of trauma-informed approaches (TIAs) in organizations. However, mentors may be unaware of how trauma impacts mentees and organizations. This chapter discusses forms and symptoms of trauma and outlines TIA for mentors to implement within the mentorship dyad and at the organizational level. Topics include the manifestation and effects of trauma, including toxic stress and neurobiological effects of trauma, organizational considerations for a TIA, and guiding principles for working with mentees. When mentors understand trauma and implement a TIA, mentoring can be more meaningful and transformative.

Despite nearly 8 million participants, and millions more stakeholders in the form of parents, administrators, and coaches, interscholastic sport research is scarce. To determine the scope of existing interscholastic sport research the current study investigated all sport management journals listed on the NSSM list of Journals Serving the Community of Sport Management Scholarship. results indicated that of the 37,107 journal articles on the NASSM list 931 focused on some aspect of interscholastic sport. When removing 505 medical studies and 78 law studies, the number of sport-specific studies totaled 348, which is less than 1% of all sport management publications. Although results demonstrate research growth from the 1970s to 2024, particularly in the amount of qualitative research, the scale of research is strikingly small. Fortunately, most existing research focuses on the participants at a developmentally impactful time of their lives, and newer journals appear to welcome interscholastic inquiry.

The growing challenge of drug-resistant bacterial pathogens has heightened the urgency of discovering novel classes of antimicrobial compounds. Our research investigates the potential of plantoside derivatives as new antibiotics. These compounds possess a coumaroyl-based structure shown to inhibit bacterial growth, yet their molecular mechanism of action remains unclear. To explore their efficacy against common antibiotic resistance mechanisms, we aim to determine whether plantoside derivatives interact with Penicillin Binding Proteins (PBPs).

Conservation translocations may be a useful tool for the restoration of declining freshwater invertebrates, but they are poorly represented in the literature. We conducted a before‐after/control‐impact (BACI) experiment to test the efficacy of conservation translocation for re‐establishing abundant populations of the amphipod Gammarus lacustris, a declining species and wildlife food resource in depressional wetlands in the upper Midwest of the United States of America. Each study site (n = 19) contained at least one treatment wetland receiving translocated G. lacustris from a local donor and one control wetland. We selected study wetlands based on a suite of wetland characteristics and randomly assigned recipient versus control treatment. Gammarus lacustris was detected post‐translocation at only 2 of 22 recipient wetlands (1 of 19 sites). Overall, there was a statistical increase in G. lacustris density in recipient wetlands compared to controls; however, the results were of minimal biological significance due to being driven by a single site with low G. lacustris densities. Accordingly, our results suggest that future conservation translocations of amphipods might be successful if limited to recently restored wetlands or informed by a more complex habitat suitability model to differentiate dispersal limitations from habitat limitations. To develop such a model would involve identifying the fewest, most influential physical and biological factors (e.g. wetland size/structure, fish, aquatic vegetation, and water chemistry) from the numerous inter‐related factors that correlate with the abundance of naturally occurring G. lacustris; candidate wetlands to receive amphipods would be those for which the model predicts abundant G. lacustris but in which they do not presently occur.

The paper explores the potential risks of quantum computing in the context of hacking, as quantum computers can potentially break through existing security systems and create new threats to privacy and security. Quantum computing has the potential to break through current encryption methods and develop new, more secure encryption techniques. High-performance computing can benefit from quantum computing through faster simulations and optimization of complex systems. In the field of medicine, quantum computing can be used to accelerate drug discovery and personalize medicine by simulating molecular interactions at the atomic level. Finally, in finance, quantum computing can be utilized for portfolio optimization, risk management, and algorithmic trading. This paper concludes that quantum computing has immense potential for improving various fields, but it is important to consider the associated risks and challenges. Moreover, there is a need for further research and development in areas such as post-quantum cryptography, algorithm development and cybersecurity. The potential of quantum computing and its intersection with other technologies highlight the long path towards classical computing's maturation.

Maternal and reproductive healthcare in the United States faces persistent challenges, including high maternal mortality rates and significant disparities across racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic groups. This review examines the integration of evidence-based interventions as a strategic approach to improving maternal health outcomes and reducing inequities. The paper explores the current landscape of maternal health challenges, highlighting disparities in mortality and barriers to equitable care. It evaluates a range of evidence-based strategies, including standardized clinical protocols, community-based interventions, telehealth innovations, and healthcare provider training, alongside policy measures such as Medicaid expansion, hospital-based quality improvement programs, and maternal health equity frameworks. The review also identifies research gaps, emphasizes the importance of scaling successful programs, and outlines strategies for continuous monitoring, evaluation, and cross-sector collaboration. By synthesizing clinical, policy, and community perspectives, this work underscores the potential of integrated, evidence-driven approaches to transform maternal and reproductive healthcare in the U.S., foster equity, and achieve sustained reductions in preventable maternal deaths.

Sexuality research engages with multiple disciplines and methodologies and sexuality researchers can receive a wide range of training. Though a common job duty for academics, researchers rarely receive formal training in how to establish and run a lab to conduct their research. In this paper, I walk through a variety of lab management tasks, such as selecting personnel, launching a program of research, conducting studies, and disseminating findings, and discuss ethical dilemmas that might arise in each of those in the context of sexuality research, such as befriending research assistants, conducting observational field research, and presenting negative results. I also provide specific recommendations for academics looking to establish a lab focused on gender and sexuality topics.

Digital badges are an effective avenue for students to obtain recognition for their achievements. Current digital badging platforms are mainly developed to assist earners in sharing their achievements on social media platforms. These systems focus less on in-demand skills required by the labor market. However, our proposed system introduces a criteria-based badging system, requiring layers of evaluations and verifications to assure originality and quality in the process of earning a single badge. As a result, students can engage further in courses that will benefit them in terms of job readiness and preparedness. This leads students to earn badges associated with top in-demand skills required by the labor market. In turn, this can increase students’ opportunities to obtain jobs related to their skills. These badges can influence recruiting decisions because employers may find and display their required candidate qualifications and skills via recruiting channels.

The provision of IT resources on demand as opposed to the acquisition, ownership, and upkeep of physical servers and data centers is known as cloud computing. Recent cloud computing applications involve crucial infrastructure like power plants and distribution facilities. The majority of necessary services are outsourced, which puts data security and privacy at risk. This paper outlines potential security concerns and practical solutions. A brief explanation of cloud computing is provided prior to the analysis and examination of the security issues.
