Listings of Buprenorphine Offering by Substance Use Disorder Treatment Facilities and Waivered Clinician From July 2019 to May 2021.
This study explores trends in buprenorphine availability at substance use disorder treatment facilities (SUDTFs) and by waivered clinicians during the pandemic. We also examined whether there were differences in access based on a county's metropolitan status and annual fatal drug poisoning rate. Data from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration' Behavioral Health Treatment Locator between July 2019 and May 2021 were used to calculate trends in SUDTFs offering buprenorphine and the number of waivered clinicians per 10,000 population. We calculated unadjusted trends over time, stratified by whether a county was above or below the annual median age-adjusted fatal drug overdose rate in that year and the county's metropolitan status. Results showed an increase in SUDTFs and waivered clinicians offering buprenorphine before the pandemic, but the rate leveled off during the pandemic. On average, the increase in facilities was about 8 percentage points per year, and the increase in waivered clinicians was 0.29 per year. The percentage of SUDTFs offering buprenorphine peaked at 47%, and the number of waivered clinicians leveled off at 1.61 per 10,000 population. There were more SUDTFs and clinicians offering buprenorphine in metropolitan versus nonmetropolitan counties. There were also more SUDTFs and clinicians offering buprenorphine in counties above versus below median poisoning rates. This study provides insights into how buprenorphine availability changed during the COVID-19 pandemic and before the removal of the X-waiver in 2023. More outreach will be needed to encourage the offering of buprenorphine by SUDTFs and office-based clinicians.

Dentigerous cysts are benign odontogenic cysts that are associated with the crowns of permanent teeth and rarely recur. They are usually single in occurrence and located in the mandible.Multiple cysts are reported in patients with conditions such as mucopolys -accharidosis and basal cell nevus syndrome. Here, we report a case of impacted maxillary cuspid with dentigerous cyst in a nonsyndromic patient.

Read moreEffect of Indomethacin on Blood Pressure Managed by Captopril and Losartan in Hypertensive Patients
Objective: Determine the role of indomethacin on blood pressure lowering by captopril and losartan in hypertension patients. Study design: Randomized study design. Methodology: 200 patients with known hypertension problems including women and men were treated in this study. The complete protocol for the study was approved by the research center and committee of the hospital. Patients were randomly treated with losartan 50mg/day, and captopril 25mg two times/day. . Indomethacin 65 mg /day was given to patients in week six. Results: Among the 200 patients 68 (50%) females received losartan and 68 (50%) females received captopril. Captopril was given to a total of 100 patients including 68 females and 32 males. Their first-week follow-up systolic BP Mean ± S.E measured value was 152.02 ± 0.9, Diastolic BP measured value was 94.5 ± 0.5, Pulse, bpm = 86.6 ± 2.0 with a significant p-value. The fifth week measured reading was 141.04 ± 0.7 = systolic BP, 86.05 ± 1.2 = Diastolic BP, Pulse, bpm = 86.6 ± 2.0. A significant reduction in BP was observed with a p-value of 0.001. At sixth-week captopril and indomethacin combination results show a lesser reduction in BP systolic/ diastolic = 146.06 ± 0.2/89.01 ± 2.0 mm Hg, pulse rate measured 81.7 ± 1.0 with significant p-value 0.05. Losartan first week follow-up shows a BP of 153.01 ± 0.3/92.6 ± 0.6, pulse reading was 79.3 ± 2.0 with a p-value of 0.001. In the fifth week, BP was 139.5 ± 0.1/ 84.03 ± 0.3, pulse = 77.6 ± 3.0 showing a significant reduction in BP. The sixth week Losartan + indomethacin results show a lesser decrease in BP with 145.4 ± 0.1/ 91.02 ± 0.4 mm Hg, and 79.01 ± 3.1 value was measured for Pulse, bpm. Conclusion: The results of this study show that losartan and captopril are more effective in controlling BP than in combination with indomethacin. So, indomethacin reduced the antihypertensive effect of losartan and captopril. Keywords: captopril, losartan, indomethacin, antihypertensive, blood pressure
Read moreA novel shape memory polymer composites with grafted hydroxyapatite nanoparticles for high strength and stiffness applications
Abstract Shape memory polymer (SMP) composites have evolved uniquely, employing nanoscale fillers, which add multifunctionality to the basic resin. In this work, the effect of inorganic, grafted hydroxyapatite (g‐HAp) nanoparticles on the dynamic (mechanical), thermo‐mechanical and microstructural properties of copolymer, based on diurethane dimethacrylate (DUDMA), (t‐butyl acrylate (tBA), and crosslinker poly(ethylene glycol) dimethacrylate (PEGDMA), has been investigated. The agglomeration of nanofillers is limited by using PEG dimethacrylate monomer to graft HAp nanoparticles. Importantly, it is observed that mixing DUDMA in (tBA + PEGDMA) has improved the Young's Modulus of SMP composite to 5.4 GPa at RT (comparable to aircraft grade resin) with a glass transition temperature (Tg) of 55°C. Tensile stress is high as 51.46 MPa with improved strain at failure from 0.07% to 0.05%. The elongation strains of 4–8% are achieved, which provide the required strain compatibility to develop aerospace SMPs as well as SMP composites for structural and bio‐medical applications.
Read moreDental Implant Supported Thumb Prosthesis with Friction Fit Retention System
ABSTRACT Introduction An amputated thumb causes aesthetic deficit and functional loss. Reconstruction can be surgical or prosthetic. A small residuum leaves little scope for rehabilitation with suction-retained prosthesis. Prosthetic management requires implant placement or distraction osteogenesis to be successful. This report presents the use of bone-anchored dental implants to support a prosthesis for rehabilitation of an amputated thumb. Case Description Satisfactory osseointegration of a dental implant placed in the amputated right pollex of a 24-year-old woman was achieved, after a two-stage surgical procedure. A healing abutment, which is normally placed transitionally after second-stage surgery, was modified to create a permanent friction fit coping. This was used to retain the silicone thumb. Discussion and Conclusions The study to some extent established off-the-label use of dental implants in rehabilitating amputated digits. Also, the friction fit retention system proved to be a cost- and armamentarium-effective method of retaining thumb prosthesis for cases with small residuum. Clinical Relevance This report describes a procedure for two-stage surgical placement of an osseointegrated dental implant in an amputated thumb with fabrication of prosthesis, which was effectively retained by a modified healing abutment.
Read moreHigh Accuracy Navigation for the Mass Market - the FLAMINGO Initiative
FLAMINGO is developing a service to facilitate for high accuracy positioning in smartphones and IOT devices. Currently, smartphones can only achieve accuracies of several meters at best, and IOT systems desire low power, connectivity, and a highly accurate location. FLAMINGO will deliver a service that targets sub-meter accuracies in both client- and server-side positioning scenarios. Through this, a new suite of location-based applications will be enabled, that were before infeasible, as well as enhancing existing location products. Substantial server infrastructure is developed to remove user GNSS knowledge needs, where an Application Program Interface (API) is provided to simplify integration. Modified PPP and RTK processing procedures are used to provide the high accuracy positioning.
