Satisfaction Level of the Students on the Quality of Services Provided by Build Bright University, Siem Reap Campus
This research investigates the key factors influencing student satisfaction with the quality of services provided at Build Bright University (BBU), Siem Reap Campus, Cambodia. The study aims to evaluate the benefits of maintaining and enhancing service quality to attract and retain students, assess overall student satisfaction levels, and examine strategies used to promote professional development among students. A quantitative research design, utilizing descriptive statistics and a survey-based methodology, was employed to gather data from 438 first-year students enrolled in the Foundation Year program. The findings highlight that students express high satisfaction with accreditation, the formal recognition of the university’s academic standards, curriculum alignment, the extent to which the academic programs meet national and international educational standards, teacher resources, the availability of qualified instructors, teaching materials, and instructional strategies, and professional staff, administrative and support staff who contribute to a positive academic environment. However, areas such as course materials, textbooks, reading materials, and online resources, learning resources, additional materials and tools that enhance learning, and campus facilities, physical infrastructure such as classrooms, laboratories, and study spaces, need improvement. Based on these results, the study provides recommendations to enhance service quality, including updating course materials, upgrading campus infrastructure, strengthening faculty development programs, and improving student support services. This research offers valuable in-sights into the factors shaping student satisfaction in Cambodian higher education institutions and highlights strategies for improving student retention and success.
Read moreNon-Performing Loans in Cambodia’s Microfinance Sector: Challenges and Implication for Sustainable Economic Growth
This study investigates the impact of Non-Performing Loans (NPLs) on Cambodia’s economic growth, utilizing panel data analysis with annual data from 62 microfinance institutions over the period 2017-2023. Data sourced from the National Statistics Institution of Cambodia, National Bank of Cambodia, and World Bank. The results show that NPLs have a significant negative effect on Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth. In contrast, inflation is found to have a positive relationship with GDP growth, suggesting that moderate inflation may stimulate economic activity. Furthermore, government regulations are shown to have a positive influence on GDP growth, highlighting the importance of a well-structured regulatory environment. These findings emphasize the need to strengthen financial sector stability, carefully manage inflation, enhance regulatory frameworks, and encourage sectoral diversification to ensure sustainable economic growth in Cambodia. The study also underscores the importance of further research to better understand the mechanisms underlying the relationship between these variables and economic performance.
Read moreAn integrated analysis of key financial metrics driving commercial bank performance in Cambodia
This study aims to systematically identify and analyze key financial metrics that influence the performance of commercial banks in Cambodia. Utilizing 2023 data from the National Bank of Cambodia across 59 banks, the research adopts an explanatory framework based on cross-sectional data analysis. Findings reveal a statistically significant positive correlation between Non-Performing Loans (NPLs) and Return on Assets (ROA), suggesting effective NPL risk management by Cambodian banks, contrary to traditional financial theory. Loan Growth (LG) does not significantly impact ROA, indicating that external factors like market conditions and loan quality are more critical. Furthermore, Market Share (MS) has no significant impact on ROA, suggesting that market share may not be a critical determinant of bank performance in Cambodia. A significant negative relationship is observed between the Loan to Deposit Ratio (LDR) and ROA, suggesting that higher LDRs expose banks to liquidity risks and reduced profitability. Both Loan Loss Provision (LLP) and Cost to Income Ratio (CIR) negatively affect ROA, while the Effective Tax Rate (ETR) shows a marginally positive relationship. The Net Interest Margin (NIM) significantly impacts ROA, underscoring the importance of managing interest-earning assets and liabilities. Recommendations include investing in advanced risk management frameworks, enhancing loan quality, maintaining a balanced LDR, utilizing technology for cost efficiency, focusing on effective tax planning, and optimizing NIM through competitive pricing. Future research should explore additional contextual factors that affect profitability dynamics in the Cambodian banking sector.. Keywords: Commercial Banks, Financial Metrics, Return on Assets (ROA), Non-Performing Loans (NPLs), Loan to Deposit Ratio (LDR), Cost to Income Ratio (CIR), Effective Tax Rate (ETR), Net Interest Margin (NIM), Loan Growth (LG), Market Share (MS).
Read moreImpact of asset quality on financial health of commercial banks in Cambodia
This study aims to examine the impact of asset quality on the financial health of commercial banks in Cambodia. Using an explanatory approach with panel data analysis, the research analyzes annual data from 2017 to 2023 for 57 commercial banks, sourced from the National Bank of Cambodia. The analysis explores the effects of Non-Performing Loans (NPLs), Bank Size, Capital Adequacy Ratio (CAR), Interest Rates, Inflation Rate, and GDP Growth on Return on Assets (ROA) and Return on Equity (ROE). Diagnostic tests for heteroskedasticity, serial correlation, multicollinearity, and model specification are employed to ensure the robustness of the results. The findings indicate that NPLs significantly negatively impact both ROA and ROE, while Bank Size positively influences ROE but does not significantly affect ROA. CAR has a negative impact on both profitability metrics, suggesting that higher capital ratios reduce profitability due to increased capital costs. Interest Rates and Inflation Rate also show significant negative effects on ROA and ROE, whereas GDP Growth positively impacts both measures. To enhance financial health and performance, Cambodian commercial banks should focus on improving credit risk management, optimizing CAR, developing strategies to manage interest rate and inflation risks, and leveraging economic growth. These measures will strengthen financial health, improve performance metrics, and contribute to a more stable banking sector in Cambodia. Keywords: Asset Quality, Financial Health, Commercial Banks, Non-Performing Loans (NPLs), Bank Size, Capital Adequacy Ratio (CAR), Interest Rates, Inflation Rate, GDP Growth, Return on Assets (ROA), Return on Equity (ROE).
Read moreGender Differences in Group Discussion Skills among High School Students in Battambang and Pailin: An Analysis of Participation, Communication, Teamwork, Critical Thinking, and Self-Reflection
This study explores gender differences in group discussion skills among high school students in Battambang and Pailin, Cambodia, with a focus on participation, communication, teamwork, critical thinking, and self-reflection. Despite advances in gender equality, traditional norms and educational disparities continue to shape students' academic experiences, impacting their group interaction dynamics. Utilizing a cross-sectional quantitative design, data was collected from 797 students across 12 high schools using a structured questionnaire. The study revealed that while participation and engagement in discussions were similar between genders, notable differences emerged in communication skills, teamwork, and critical thinking. Female students demonstrated more consistent performance in expressing ideas, using body language, and seeking clarification, while male students exhibited greater variability. Additionally, female students showed stronger teamwork and conflict resolution skills, though there were no significant differences in overall academic performance or preferred pathways between genders. Data analysis using SPSS, including t-tests and reliability measures, indicated significant findings in some areas but also highlighted the limitations of the study, including potential sampling biases and a cross-sectional design. The results underscore the influence of traditional gender roles on academic interactions and suggest the need for targeted educational interventions to foster gender equity and enhance group dynamics.

Read moreThe effect of cultural modelling on leadership profiling of the Cambodian manager
Management research has predominantly focused on national studies of large nations, while smaller nations have been largely ignored. In addition, although Confucian Asia has been extensively studied, dharmic Asia and the Mekong region have not. This study, therefore, considers Cambodia, using the conceptual framework of Selvarajah et al. (Selvarajah, C., Duignan, P., Nuttman, C. and Suppiah, C., 1995. In search of the Asian leader: An exploratory study of dimensions that relates to excellence in leadership. Management international review: Journal of international business, 35 (1), 29–34), which has been previously used to understand a variety of eastern and western leadership behaviours. This study on Cambodia, similar to previous studies, has demonstrated the importance of cultural context when considering leadership behaviour. In Cambodia, the influence of religion and its turbulent past make this a particularly interesting study of managerial leadership and the implications to management and theory development are discussed.
