From Theory to Policy: Examining Factors Shaping Taiwanese Students’ Intentions to Enter Civil Service Through PSM Modeling
Abstract This study investigates factors influencing Taiwanese college students' intentions to enter the civil service, a critical issue for public policy in Asia where governments often struggle to attract young talent into public service. Utilizing an interdisciplinary approach bridging public administration, sociology, and governance studies, the research applies confirmatory factor analysis and a LISREL-based structural equation model to analyze data from a 2023 national survey of Taiwanese civil service exam candidates on Public Service Motivation (PSM). The analysis reveals that both intrinsic drivers (such as commitment to public interest) and extrinsic factors (such as job security and perceived fairness) significantly shape students’ aspirations for government careers. These findings affirm PSM theory in Taiwan’s context and underscore its applicability in Asian settings, indicating that personal values and contextual expectations jointly drive youth interest in public service. Policy implications are substantial: to attract and retain talented youth in government, civil service recruitment and exam reforms in Taiwan—and similar Asian contexts—should nurture idealistic motivations while addressing pragmatic career concerns. By integrating cross-disciplinary perspectives with advanced modeling, this study contributes original evidence to the discourse on public sector talent management and offers actionable insights for civil service human resource reforms aimed at enhancing youth engagement in governance across Asia.

ABSTRACT Crowdfunding, a key application of FinTech, enables capital seekers to raise funds through aggregated small contributions. This study employs a Difference-in-Differences approach using a dataset of 3,525 completed projects from Taiwan’s FlyingV platform (2012–2023) to evaluate the effects of regulatory change on crowdfunding outcomes. Results indicate that the FinTech Act significantly enhanced both the success rates and funding completion amounts of technology-related projects. Furthermore, social media engagement amplified these effects, underscoring the importance of digital visibility in crowdfunding performance.

Role of Low Dose Aspirin with Low Molecular Weight Heparin (LMWH) in the Management of Recurrent Missed Abortion: A Non-Randomized Clinical Trial
Background: Management of recurrent missed abortion is very crucial. Objective: The aim of this study was to explore the outcome of combined treatment of low dose aspirin with low molecular weight heparin (LMWH) in recurrent missed abortion cases. Methodology: This non-randomized clinical trial was performed in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology at Mugda Medical College Hospital, Dhaka, Bangladesh between January 2018 and December 2019. The samples were collected from Central Police Hospital, Dhaka, Bangladesh and in a private hospital in Dhaka city. The patients who were able to give clear history of missed abortion, who had no endocrine and hypertensive disorders and who conceived spontaneously or after fertility treatment were selected as study population. After positive pregnancy test all patients started taking oral progesterone (Allylstrenol 5 mg TDS), folic acid and aspirin 75 mg daily. Patients were advised to come for ultrasonography at 6 weeks of pregnancy. After confirming intrauterine viable pregnancy by ultrasonography we started injection enoxaparin (LMWH) 40 mg subcutaneous daily to all patients and continued till 34 completed weeks. The primary end point was the live birth rate and secondary end points were the side effects, late pregnancy complications and neonatal outcome in the study population. Results: Fifteen (50.4%) patients had antiphospholipid syndrome. Among them antiphospholipid subgroup antibody found in 40.4% cases, ACLA found in 27.5% cases, LA found in 18.3% cases and both ACLA and LA found in 13.8% cases. Antinuclear antibody was positive in 10% cases. No abnormality was identified in 40.1% cases. Pregnancy continued successfully in 97.0% cases. There were no maternal and foetal complications. Except failed cases there was no need to discontinue the treatment. Conclusion: In conclusion it has found a satisfactory outcome with low dose heparin therapy. Large, well-designed randomized trials are needed to establish the heparin therapy in recurrent missed abortion. Journal of National Institute of Neurosciences Bangladesh, January 2024;10(1):57-63

Improving precision of evacuation simulation: A comparative analysis between evacuation drill and SimTread simulation results
In a fire, stairways are the primary avenues for building evacuation. Previous studies focused on investigating evacuation flow through evacuation drills in a high-rise office building to assess the accuracy of evacuation scenarios and compared them with evacuation dynamics. However, the effectiveness of evacuation drills in estimating many scenarios is limited by actual drills. The evacuation simulations present a promising approach to objectively evaluating evacuation scenarios. This study verifies whether evacuation simulations can faithfully replicate actual evacuation flow and effectively predict suitable evacuation scenarios or potentially involve parameter calibration. Through a comprehensive comparison analysis, this study scrutinized the reliability of evacuation simulations and calibrated the simulation parameters. The analysis revealed that factors, including adjustments to the door width, personal space considerations for occupants in both conflict and normal situations and variations in staircase structure configuration, can significantly influence the evacuation flow within staircases. Manipulating these parameters in simulations would enable a more precise replication of evacuation flow within staircases, thereby enhancing the simulation’s accuracy in target evacuation scenarios. The findings of this research have underscored the significance of employing advanced simulation techniques to model evacuation dynamics accurately, facilitating a robust framework for devising effective emergency evacuation strategies in high-rise office buildings.

As technology advances and cybercrime rates increase, cyberattacks, cyber fraud, and theft of property are becoming serious.Accordingly, digital evidence is inevitable for investigating related crimes. To obtain digital evidence, digital forensics with advanced sensor technology is required following international standards. For digital evidence preservation and processing, the control measures and norms for effective management are critical. Therefore, we analyzed and compared the international standards of digital evidence identification including the International Organization for Standardization/International Organization for Standardization (ISO/IEC 27050) and Digital Evidence Forensics Standard Operating Procedure (DEFSOP).We also studied how to use sensor technology for the standard and operating procedures of digital evidence forensics in real cybercrime. The results provide a basis for constructing effective evidence preservation by identifying principles of digital evidence identification.
Read moreThe Study of More Susceptible to Fake News Makers with Influencing Factors in Social Media
The menace of fake news has gained attention through the trend of the convenience of information-sharing in the cyber world. The information-sharing lifestyle has penetrated people's cyber routines. This study adopts a victimology perspective to explore the characteristics of the audience that is most likely to be influenced by fake news in social media through secondary data quantitative research. The results show that demographic characteristics, gender, and education level affect the likelihood of receiving fake news. When people use more social media platforms and have greater engagement, such as more sharing, reposting, and replying on social media platforms, there is a greater chance of receiving fake news.
Read moreA Scheme of PVO with Median Preserving upon Reversible Data Hiding Using Adaptive Embedding Mechanisms
This paper presents a novel reversible data hiding (RDH) technique based on pixel value ordering (PVO) and median preserving (MP) for improving image quality. In the proposed method, an adaptive block-wise embedding mechanism is applied. In PVO-based RDH, embedding data into a smooth block is always leading to a better image quality. For each block, the complexity is first calculated using surrounding blocks and then set a threshold in order to measure whether this block is a smooth or a complex block. The smooth blocks are embedded with secret data, and the complex blocks are skipped based on the threshold value. Therefore, this mechanism better exploits smooth blocks for data embedding, resulting in improved image quality. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method achieves a higher PSNR value than the previous approach.
