Abstract Atmospheric CO2and temperature are rising concurrently, and may have profound impacts on the transcriptional, physiological, and behavioral responses of aquatic organisms. Further, spring snow melt may cause transient increases ofpCO2in freshwater systems. Lake sturgeon (Acipenser fulvescens) groups were raised in current and projected levels of warming andpCO2. Following an overwintering period, lake sturgeon were exposed to a transient increase inpCO2, simulating a spring melt. Diverging transcriptional patterns were found in each group and metabolic rate was lower in the combined stressor group compared to others. Behavioral assays revealed no effect of environment on alarm cue responses or boldness, but there was a decrease in total activity following an acute CO2exposure. These results demonstrate compensatory and compounding mechanisms ofpCO2and warming dependent on developmental conditions of a freshwater fish, and provide key information for responses to future climate change.

This paper describes a multi-year project testing a DER marketplace framework in Australia. The DERs are aggregated, bi-directional offers submitted and dispatched as if they were a type of scheduled resource. The DER offers are constrained by dynamic operating envelopes designed to safeguard the integrity of the supply network. Flexibility services provided by DER fleets provide a value staking opportunity.

PurposeThe climate in Mendoza is significantly different from the climate in most global wine-making regions. This paper aims to explore the relationship between the quality of the Malbec wine from the Mendoza region and its weather.Design/methodology/approachThis study uses a multivariate regression model with fixed effects to assess how weather variations relate to wine quality. The Wine Spectator ratings are used as a measure of wine quality and to build a longitudinal data set of Malbec wine ratings from 1995 to 2020. The weather is described with several variables based on temperature, rainfall, humidity and cloudiness data from the Mendoza region. The model controls for wineries which are treated as fixed effects.FindingsThe results of this study indicate that the weather has a modest explanatory power when it comes to the quality of Mendoza’s Malbec. Additionally, the analyses show that the wineries are more important than the weather to explain quality differences in the wines. These findings are in agreement with previous studies carried out in regions with stable weather such as California and Australia.Practical implicationsThe quality of Mendoza’s Malbec depends more on the winery of origin than the year-to-year weather variations. Therefore, consumers should focus more on the winery and less on the vintage when making purchasing decisions. Additionally, given the relevance of the winery in relation to quality, the findings of this study indicate that future research efforts should focus on directly linking the wine ratings to quality-drivers behind the winery effects.Originality/valueTo the best of the authors’ knowledge, this is the first study that explores the relationship between wine quality assessed through wine ratings and the weather in the Mendoza (Argentina) region. Most such studies have been done in connection with northern hemisphere wines.

ABSTRACT The Casablanca Valley, which is located in Chile’s central region and is one of the eleven Wine Capitals of the World, presents a most unusual climate among the global wine regions: cold summers (Csc according to the Koppen classification). In this study we explore the relationship between weather and wine quality in Casablanca and we conclude that this relationship is quite different from what has been reported in reference to other wine regions. Specifically, we find that: (a) the weather affects the quality of red wines much more than that of white wines; (b) both, winter season and growing season weather variables play an important role in determining wine quality; (c) humidity and solar radiation also matter; and (d) absolute maximum and minimum temperatures during the grapevine cycle are also important explanatory variables. This is in stark contrast with several previous studies where the average temperature during the growing season and rainfall before the harvest season were found to be the most relevant weather variables to account for wine quality.

ABSTRACT The impetus for adopting ESG-sensitive investment policies has increased steadily since 2006, when the United Nations outlined its Principles of Responsible Investment (PRI). Recently, a new industry aimed at helping investors to make sound ESG-driven decisions has flourished: ESG rating agencies. We investigated the ratings provided by four leading rating agencies (ISS, MSCI, S&P, and Sustainalytics) to the companies in the S&P500 index. Using measurement theory techniques, we concluded that ESG ratings currently exhibit an abysmally low level of reliability (18.3%) and agreement (5.4%). This situation differs sharply not only with the levels of reliability and agreement found in credit ratings but also with the reliability and agreement found in areas where subjectivity plays an important role, for example, wine ratings. These findings challenge the claim that ESG ratings can be helpful to make investment decisions, as they suggest that the ESG ratings industry as a whole is in much disarray.

This chapter describes the information and products for planning, coordination, and control of the spectrum at the joint task force level. Spectrum manager assignments within a joint task force include multiple organizations: joint frequency management office, joint spectrum management element (JSME), cyber electromagnetic activities element and the G‐6. These agencies have a wide variety of inputs, collaboration, and products. The JSME is a temporary organization that activates only for the duration of a specific joint task force mission. The JSME has a primary function to ensure authorized assigned joint task force military forces receive sufficient use of the spectrum to execute their designated missions. Army Defense Support of Civil Authorities encompasses all support provided by the components of the Army to civil authorities within the U.S. and its possessions and territories.
