The purpose of this study was to better understand teacher tensions in professional development. The population under study was practicing mathematics teachers engaged in a week-long professional development institute. Data sources included observations, interviews, and teacher products (such as registration forms, surveys, journals, and notebooks). The data were analyzed to determine what tensions were evident in the institute and how those tensions arose. In this paper, we examine participants’ tensions in a professional development situation when their expectations did not match reality. We have done so by presenting a theoretical model of professional development based on an instructional rhombus that illuminates the actual and applicatory aspects of teachers’ professional development experiences. The main tensions expressed by the teachers were related to the content and pedagogy of the institute. This study points toward the importance of teachers’ expectations in professional development.

The concept of experimental frame is employed to define circumstances under which a model is simulated and observed. Verifying the applicability of an experimental frame to a model is a key step to ensure that the intended purpose of a simulation can be achieved. We assume that the specification of an experimental frame and a model are two software components in the formal sense. This paper suggests a component-based approach to build the right simulation used for system models verification and validation. We use Input/Output automata for components' behaviour specification. Behavioural signature is employed to specify the experimental frame and model capabilities. Then we formally define applicability conditions with matching rules to verify the trace inclusion between an experimental frame and a model. This approach is illustrated with an application study of an intelligent cruise controller.

An accurate understanding of how emotional experiences that juvenile sex offenders have gone through contribute to their criminal behaviors can offer important insight into the treatment process. Through analyzing the innermost mind of a juvenile sex offender, this article provides a clinical conceptualization from an attachment perspective. Clinical recommendations such as the provision of a secure base in combination with behavioral intervention are offered.

Assessment by 13 mental health professionals and 25 graduate students in psychology suggested that a brief, carefully developed structured interview outline for intrapsychic information is judged useful in assessment of disruptive adolescents.

With 50 adolescent subjects evidence suggests that boredom is related to inactivity, social dependency, a disregard for rules, apprehension, and guilt proneness. Satisfactory test-retest reliability of the Boredom Proneness Scale ( r = .79) was obtained.
