Abstract The hydrothermal reaction of GeO2, Cd(O‐Ac)2, and Me‐(CH2)15NMe3Br (pH 8 adjusted with NaOH, autoclave, 100 °C, 24 h) yields Cd2Ge2O6, which is subsequently reduced via thiourea decomposition in a horizontal silica tube (400‐500 °C, 30 min) to produce nanostructured Cd4GeS6 with a direct band gap.

New studies in the monitoring of blood gases and pulmonary ventilation show a continuing development of on-line monitors. On the other hand, the worldwide trend of cost containment in clinical medicine forces us to evaluate and re-evaluate the efficacy and efficiency of new and old monitoring equipment by establishing new standards. Studies on new monitoring equipment and the associated cost-benefit issues are now being addressed in current publications and literature reviews.
