Older adults are at risk of having their stories defined for them based on cultural expectations about the values and preferences of certain generations. In music therapy, these expectations can manifest in assumptions about how older adults relate to and engage with music. The resulting conflict between the authentic story and the assumed story is transgenerational narrative distortions where members of one generation disrupt, destabilise and deconstruct the lived experiences of another generation through a cultural projection of values, expectations and perspectives. Older adults stand to benefit from a process of narrative repair amplifying their authentic stories through a focus on whole persons defined by past, present and future experiences. Narratology provides a theoretical structure for shaping narrative repair processes through the theoretical constructs of 'historical epics' and 'novel': whereas historical epics frame the past as fixed and unmoving, novels understand characters to be in continuous evolution. Older adults in music therapy who are received as novels are subsequently empowered to continue forming identity through the full spectrum of their life. Clinical vignettes are provided to illustrate the harms of narrative distortions in music therapy, and how narrative repair can be reflexively integrated into culturally responsible assessment and clinical decision-making. Recommendations for clinicians include (A) Continued exploration of aspirational cultural humility, particularly as it relates to messaging about age and identity formation, (B) Development of reflexive assessments that navigate multiple areas of knowledge to determine health-optimising music experiences for older adults, and (C) Expansion of the repertories and intervention designs introduced in music therapy.

Abstract Knowledge of species‐specific fish biology, ecology, and habitat use is critical for informing science‐based management. Yellow perch Perca flavescens are an ecologically and recreationally important fish species. Yet, for many north‐temperate systems (e.g. inland lakes of Wisconsin), little is known about yellow perch seasonal habitat use and ecology. We characterised yellow perch seasonal spatial distribution, size–structure, and condition between littoral and pelagic habitats in Crystal Lake (Vilas Co., WI) during the open water period of 2021. Seasonal spatial distribution and population size–structure were characterised by contemporaneous sampling in littoral and pelagic habitats using mini‐fyke nets and vertical gill nets, respectively. Relative abundance estimates for yellow perch in the littoral zone were greatest during early spring and declined throughout the open water season. Yellow perch pelagic relative abundance estimates were lowest in spring, peaked at the onset of stratification, and then declined and remained relatively consistent throughout the open water season. In general, yellow perch population size–structure and condition were greatest in the pelagic zone. Our findings suggest that after spring spawning, larger yellow perch prefer/select pelagic habitats, while sub‐adults and juveniles prefer/select littoral habitats, potentially resulting from increased predator refugia and(or) resource availability. Our results emphasise the importance of evaluating gear and fishery assessment bias, particularly when the target species may use a range of habitat types within a system.

We prove that any conforma! mapping between three-dimensional Cartesian spaces is limited to translation, rotation, uniform scaling, reciproca!, or simple combinations of these four operations. This result extends our earlier work on the CRV (Conforma! Rota tion Vector), which defines a conforma! mapping from the non-Euclidean space of rigid body orientations into a Euclidean 3-space. Conforma! means that changes in orientation resulting from two consecutive body rotations, about mutually-perpendicular axes through equal in finitesimal angles, are represented by mutually- perpendicular equal-sized vector increments in CRV space. This property makes the CRV particularly useful for motion planning in robots. Because the conforma! mapping between CRV space and another Cartesian space is limited, the CRV is essentially unique.
