Building communities and professionalism through student-organised conferences
Doctoral training operates under the backdrop of a neocolonial relationship in higher education governing universities and their students, as reflected in academic regulations and supervision. When professional and academic standards governing doctoral students dominate academia, this article mediates the affordances institutions can provide and the capabilities students can deliver by organising their learning activities such as doctoral conferences. In the first section, this article frames the contextual and professional imperatives around doctoral students’ organisation of their conference. Secondly, the article outlines a range of interdependent activities that have allowed students to facilitate and develop their networks and capabilities in organising doctoral conferences. Preliminary findings from this case study were drawn to understand how student-organised conferences might catalyse the development of communities and solidarities needed to thrive in their studies. Finally, the authors provide reflections on the impact of the neoliberal and multidisciplinary nature of the research that doctoral students encounter during their PhD and the possibilities of a transformative learning experience.

Design improvements in modern distribution transformers
In the paper design improvements of distribution transformers related to improved energy efficiency and environmental awareness are discussed. Eco design of transformers, amorphous transformers, voltage regulated transformers and transformers filled with ester liquids are analyzed. As a consequence of growing energy efficiency importance, European Commission has adopted new regulation which defines maximum permissible levels of load and no-load losses of transformers with rated power ≤ 3150 kVA, and minimum peak efficiency index for transformers with rated power > 3150 kVA up to 40 MVA. The impact of new regulation on the design and economy of transformer is presented. Amorphous transformers, with up to 70 % lower no-load losses in comparison to the conventional transformers, could be an alternative with respect to energy efficiency. Although their initial price is higher than the price of conventional transformers, some studies show that they might have economic advantages. The increasing penetration of distributed energy sources can cause an increase in voltage variations in low voltage networks. To keep the voltage within limits defined by EN50160, voltage regulated distribution transformers could be used. Although mineral oil has been used as a dielectric fluid in transformers for many years, there are some environmentally friendlier alternatives – natural and synthetic ester-based fluids.

Demanding requirements on the circular economy, cost savings, the effectiveness of the power grids operation press the operators of large electrical machines and other equipment to search for new methods of equipment management, maintenance, and renewal. At present, the management of important electrical machines is mostly related to offline concepts. This paper brings a summary of the current management practices and represents an introduction of a modern approach -Condition Based Management as well. For the large high voltage, electric machines are here proposed method of using aging models as a part of online diagnostic systems to estimate machine state. An example of the modeled use of condition-based modeling and residual life of insulating material is here presented. This approach should be employed in the employment of new renewable energy resources as well.

We understand that the practice of Philosophy with Children within the school, proposed by Walter Kohan, invites practitioners to think about themselves and, in that reflective act, to know what they are – and what they are being -, what they want and do not want to be, giving themselves the possibility of self-transformation. In order to transform ourselves, says this philosopher, it is necessary to abandon the devices that lead us to be what we are. But, what are we? What are we as teachers? What are we as students? What devices lead us to be what we are? To think about these questions we analyze, with Michel Foucault, the school, an institution where the practice of Philosophy with Children takes place, in order to understand the power relations that exist in this space. We will understand how this power relations shape and define what it is to be a teacher and to be a student. To do this, we start with an introduction to Foucault’s thought, analyzing what is power, pastoral power, disciplinary power and resistance that, according to the French philosopher, shapes school as an educational locus. Likewise, we will present the Philosophy with Children proposal and expose the possibility and need, stated by Kohan, for philosophy (as an exercise within the school) to reflect on the coercive practices of power experienced in the classroom and, from there, to create and openness to other forms of relationship between those who inhabit it. Finally, we argue that the practice of Philosophy with Children constitutes, in Foucault's terms, a practice of resistance within schools.

FEM methods for calculating electromagnetic fields have long been available. Theoretically it is possible to solve many different tasks using these methods. In practice however, we encounter certain limitations during the design of power transformers, particularly with regards to the magnetic calculations. Some obstacles bring the method itself, some are given by material characteristics and perhaps the greatest is based in geometry. These obstacles are discussed in this article and analyzed.
