Eko-Energia (Poland)

As a result of the digitalization of industry and human activity environments, and also the development of machine intelligence, it is reasonable to start a debate on the safety of technology with machine intelligence. Machine intelligence is a kind of extension and reinforcement of humans in the area of building specific data and knowledge resources with a focus on their purposeful and safe use for specific needs. The subject of the statement is the analysis of selected literature on the safety of technology with machine intelligence.

The objective of this paper was to study the sCO2 cycle as a waste heat recovery system for a 180 kW biogas engine. The research methodology adopted was numerical simulations through two models built in different programs: Aspen HYSYS and GT Suite. The models were used to optimize the design and thermodynamic parameters of a CO2 cycle in terms of system power, system efficiency, expander, and compressor efficiency. Depending on the objective function, the sCO2 cycle could provide additional power ranging from 27.9 to 11.3 kW. Based on the calculation performed, “Recuperated cycle at maximum power” was selected for further investigation. The off-design analysis of the system revealed the optimum operating point. The authors designed the preliminary dimensions of the turbomachinery, i.e., the rotor dimension is 16 mm, which will rotate at 100,000 rpm.

This article presents a reflection on the concept of humour and related categories of the comic and irony found in the philosophical thought of Søren Kierkegaard. Humour – as the best expression of the comic – is rooted, according to the author of Either – Or, in contradictions inherent in existence. Metaphysically understood humour contains both elements of the comic and pathos, while contradictions are perceived here in a painless form, contrary to the tragic. Suffering resulting from contradictions of existence becomes deceptively suspended in the form of a joke. Humour understood in this way fits into the group of theories referred to in the literature on the subject as incongruity theories. According to the great Dane, humour occupies the transitory position between the ethical and religious lives, while irony occupies between the aesthetic and ethical stages, between the lack of moral commitment and full devotion to ethical values. Finally, the author recognises humour as a borderline phenomenon, positioned between the ethical life and transcending it to a higher level of the full religious life with its ultimate challenges.

A b s t r a c t. Romanesque collegiate church in Opatw (south-eastern Poland) belongs to the best-preserved Early Mediaeval edifices in Poland. Its date of origin, founder, architects and history are still unclear despite numerous investigations carried out since the beginning of the 19 th century. It is clear that local sandstones were used in the construction of the impressive church.Present investigations resulted in the inventory of the stones used as a building material: their petrography, size of blocks and strange holes and striae on some of their surfaces.Dominant sandstones have different colours: white-greyish or grey-brownish.They are built of very fine-grained, well sorted quartz with siliceous-clayey binder. All sandstone blocks have similar heights (most frequent average 34-38 cm), but different lengths.Longer (up to 62 cm) are placed in the oldest parts of the edifice, shorter (up to 48 cm) form younger fragments and might have been reused after destruction of previous undefined buildups. The sandstones represent Lower Jurassic sediments exposed currently on the slopes of the Opatwka River valley in Podole, some 5 km NE of Opatw.Only a few sherry (reddish) sandstone blocks found in various parts of the walls are probably replacements during post-Romanesque reconstructions. They represent Lower Triassic sandstone from Lipowa, 3 km NE of Opatw.Lancetoidal grooves, 5-20 cm long, and hemispherical holes of 1-4 cm in diameter are apparently of anthropogenic origin (apotropaic marks); however, their purpose is unclear. It is supposed that the grooves are traces of tool sharpening or grinding, while the holes are places where sandy or dusty material was acquired for magical or medical purposes.

Worldwide, more and more sectors are decarbonizing via electrification paired with renewable generation and energy efficiency. Within the transportation sector, the replacement of fossil-fuel vehicles, especially buses, with electric ones is posing new challenges not only related to the long-term infrastructure planning but also to the short-term management and control. This paper presents a simulation platform, based on the Monte-Carlo approach aimed at simulating the electric vehicles depot and analyzing the impact of short-term uncertainties on the daily energy management of the fleet. The main principles and functionalities of the platform are tested and shown considering a public transportation bus fleet as a case study.
