Levitation and driving performance of a non-contact rotation actuator excited by near-field ultrasonic energy
To address friction induced in the assembly of disk-shaped precision components, a non-contact rotation actuator driven by ultrasonic energy has been developed based on near-field acoustic levitation technology and non-contact drive principles. The actuator can levitate the rotor and drive the rotor to rotate. The theoretical model for the levitation mechanics and rotation driving mechanics of the non-contact rotation actuator is developed based on a nonlinear acoustic theory and ideal gas thermodynamics with analysis of the influence of key structural and dynamic parameters on levitation force and driving torque. Analysis of the levitation mechanics model revealed that the levitation force increases with vibration amplitude but decreases with levitation height. The rotation driving mechanics model demonstrated that maximum driving torque is achieved when the inclination angle of the cross section reaches 45°. Acoustic characteristics of the ultrasonic transmitter have been performed, elucidating the driving mechanism through acoustic pressure and acoustic streaming analysis. Experimental results on levitation force demonstrate an inverse proportional relationship between levitation height and levitation force. Experimental investigations of rotation driving force revealed optimal actuation performance at the resonant frequency of 20.21 kHz under constant excitation voltage. Additionally, the rotational speed is found to increase with rising excitation voltages when operating under fixed frequency conditions. Under an excitation condition of 225 Vp-p and a frequency of 20.21 kHz, the rotor achieved a maximum rotational speed of 3145 rpm while generating a peak torque output of 1.238 mN m. The experimental results substantiate the validity of the theoretical model and the practicality of the proposed design.

Read moreA Possible Correlation Between Auricular Angiomas and Breast Cancer Through Auricular Acupuncture Diagnosis: An Observational Case-Control Study.
Introduction Auricular acupuncture (AA) can be used for both diagnosis and therapy. Diagnosis done with AA has become more prominent, with inspection by evaluating skin alterations considered the most important step. Literature on AA diagnosis in cancer patients is scarce. Globally, breast cancer (BC) is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in women. Materials and methods Subjects accessing the outpatient Breast Unit Clinic of Padua for BC were evaluated for auricle angiomas, with collected data including a number of angiomas, Romoli's Sectogram sector of identified angiomas, laterality of the auricle with the angioma, age, and laterality of BC. Results Of the 438 subjects evaluated, 129 had BC, and 64 had an identifiable auricle angioma. The odds of an auricular angioma were higher in subjects with BC diagnosis, mainly localized in tumor area II and predominantly ipsilateral to the side affected by BC. Conclusions AA auricle inspection is a simple, quick, and easy diagnostic tool. Screening for the presence and location of auricular angiomas may help health practitioners refer women for BC screening for early diagnosis.

This paper presents the main results from CIGRE/CIRED/UIE working group JWG C4.110 and an overview of the need for further work identified by this working group. The paper goes into more details of the voltage-dip statistics collected by the working group and on methods to present the results from voltage-dip surveys.
Read moreClassification of voltage sags base on k-NN in the principal component space
A new method for the classification of sags is proposed. The goal is to deduce the origin of sags (upstream or downstream of the transformer) registered in distribution substations. The method is based on the existence of a case base of previous registers which origin is well known. This case base is used to infer the origin of new sags based on the retrieval of similar sags using a distance criterion. This distance computed in the principal component space is also used in the decision step to decide the origin of the new sag.
Read moreTrials of Enslavers in Former French Colonies in the Eighteenth and Nineteenth Centuries: Testimonies of the Enslaved between Gratitude and Fear
ABSTRACT This article sheds light on a rarely considered aspect of colonial reality: trials of enslavers. The focus lies on lawsuits against members of the slaveholding elite in which enslaved people appeared as witnesses. These sources represent a moment of confrontation within colonial society which allows for an exploration of power relations through the eyes of the enslaved rarely discovered so far. This article discusses some methodological issues of working with this type of source as well as considering how the testimonies can be used and analysed through the lens of the History of Emotions. Reading the testimonies, we encounter a wide range of emotions, from anger, jealousy, and fear up to relief and gratitude. Some of the enslaved defended the accused enslaver by expressing gratitude for food and medicine. Others denounced their enslaver using their testimony as a way of spelling out their grievances. Their accounts, even though highly mediated, not only show how existing legal and social structures were contested, but also how the enslaved opened up spaces of resistance to make their voices heard.
