The Spread of Deepfakes in Digital Networks
This chapter explores the spread of deepfakes through social media platforms (e.g. X, Facebook and TikTok). By studying real-world case studies, such as political deepfakes or celebrity impersonations, the chapter illustrates how synthetic media exploit online engagement dynamics to reach massive audiences quickly. It then reviews current methods used to detect and track deepfakes, especially early-warning systems monitoring content spread patterns to flag potential deepfakes in real time, as well as novel research instruments developed as part of the SOLARIS project. The chapter then presents the role of traditional media in debunking and contextualising deepfakes, reflecting upon the challenges that AI-generated disinformation poses to journalists and media professionals. In this context, insights from SOLARIS’ Use Case 2 are used to show how targeted interventions can slow the spread of harmful synthetic media. Finally, the chapter advocates for bottom-up AI education to frame digital citizens’ needs and to foster their ability to engage with online synthetic content.

This study investigated students’ metacognitive strategies in digital literacy practices with focus on how they plan, monitor and evaluate their digital reading practice. As digital learning environments demands higher levels of self-regulation, students’ understanding of metacognitive awareness becomes crucial to foster their effective understanding and critical engagement. By employing descriptive quantitative approach, this study distributed a questionnaire developed from Metacognitive Awareness of Reading Strategies Inventory (MARSI) to 122 vocational university students in a public university in Indonesia. Quantitative data analysis was accomplished to identify frequency and pattern of strategy, problem solving and support strategy. This study revealed that students often applied problem-solving strategy but show low engagement in evaluative and reflective practice, especially in evaluating credibility and online epistemic information. Although students reflected relative high awareness of surface-level strategies, their critical evaluation remained limited. This finding highlighted the fundamental of explicit instruction in metacognitive regulation in digital literacy curriculum. This study concludes that cultivating students’ evaluative and epistemological awareness are crucial to prepare them to navigate complex digital information environment.

Following the collapse of the concrete canopy at the newly reconstructed train station in Novi Sad, which killed sixteen people, Serbia has been witnessing the largest student movement in Europe since 1968. Students of diverse ideological, political, and religious backgrounds have come together to demand justice and accountability from a corrupt political establishment. This paper will strive to explore the religious and quasi-religious elements of the movement – rituals of silence, pilgrimage, ascetic endurance, and communal feasting – interpreted through a functional and anthropological approach to religion inspired by Durkheim. The study combines qualitative media discourse analysis of secular and religious communications (November 2024 to June 2025) with the author’s direct anthropological observation of protest events. This dual perspective enables an examination of how collective rituals and moral symbols emerged both in representation and in practice. The protests drew strong reactions from Serbian Orthodox Church dignitaries and other public voices, which will be examined through critical discourse analysis, focusing on how churchstate relations and religious or ideological divisions were framed. The question of various collective subjects fulfilling the usual societal functions of religion will be posed.

The training on the independent development of varied worksheets for teachers at PAUD Prada Aulia aims to enhance teachers’ competencies in designing creative, contextual, and developmentally appropriate learning media for early childhood education. Worksheets serve as an important tool in supporting meaningful learning processes; however, many teachers still rely on ready-made teaching materials that are often not aligned with the specific needs of learners. This program employed several methods, including material presentation, demonstrations, hands-on practice, and mentoring in the development of varied worksheets. The results of the training indicate an improvement in teachers’ understanding and skills in creating innovative and engaging worksheets that are aligned with early childhood learning objectives. Furthermore, teachers became more independent and confident in developing their own instructional materials. This training is expected to have a positive impact on the quality of learning in early childhood education and to encourage teachers to continuously innovate in creating effective and enjoyable learning media.

Read moreOptimalisasi User Interface & User Experience Aplikasi MAXstream Menggunakan Metode Double Diamond
