Measuring physical properties along the wellbore is crucial for estimating and modeling rock properties volumetrically in areas of interest. However, shallow well sections are often unlogged due to economic and technical constraints, creating information gaps that hinder our understanding of geological trends in the first few hundred meters. To address this, various velocity-density relationships have been tested to estimate density logs, especially for unconsolidated intervals below the seabed or where gaps exist. This analysis indicates that velocity-density relationships align more closely with a fifth-degree polynomial function than with the commonly used Gardner equation, which relies on an exponential function.

O envelhecimento de membranas trocadoras de íons, comumente utilizadas em processos de eletrodiálise, contribui na avaliação e compreensão de modificações suscetíveis ao processo industrial. Nesse estudo, membranas aniônicas de morfologia distinta foram submetidas ao envelhecimento por imersão, em soluções sintéticas, nas concentrações de 1%, 5% e 10% v/v de um banho de cobre com ácido 1 hidroxietano-1,1 difosfônico (HEDP). A ação do meio foi verificada durante 400h de contato via microscopia eletrônica de varredura com espectroscopia por dispersão de energia de raios-X (MEV-EDS) e análise termogravimétrica (TGA). Os resultados obtidos indicam que no período de contato estudado, foram mantidas, a estabilidade dimensional e térmica das membranas, não evidenciando a necessidade de descarte. Fato este que motiva o uso desses materiais em um sistema de eletrodiálise, quando aplicado para o tratamento do banho de cobre e HEDP

Através de técnicas de geoprocessamento e dos Sistemas de Informações Geográficas (SIGs), é possível integrar dados provenientes de fontes distintas para descrever cenários ambientais e representá-los espacialmente. Dessa forma, este trabalho combinou informações disponíveis na literatura para apresentar uma análise ambiental para o distrito de Fidalgo, em Minas Gerais, região onde se concentra um importante pólo extrativo da pedra Lagoa Santa. A comercialização dessa rocha, utilizada para fins ornamentais, se caracteriza como a principal atividade econômica da população desse distrito, apesar dele situar-se em zona de proteção ambiental. A falta de planejamento para a disposição dos resíduos dessa atividade juntamente com a inexistência de tratamento para os efluentes gerados resulta em impactos ambientais que afetam diretamente o Carste Lagoa Santa. Os softwares de geoprocessamento auxiliaram no diagnóstico e caracterização das áreas impactadas, além de possibilitar o dimensionamento dos diferentes efeitos negativos produzidos pelo beneficiamento da pedra Lagoa Santa. O antagonismo entre as atividades ambientais e minerárias que se desenvolvem em Fidalgo resulta em uma polarização de opiniões, mostrando que apesar da relevância ambiental ser inquestionável, a permissão do uso da terra deve ser melhor definida pelo Poder Público.

ABSTRACTThis paper discusses metrologically the best practice regarding the calibration curves applied to H2S mass fractions determination in natural gas by gas chromatography with sulfur chemiluminescence detection (GC-SCD). Three calibration curves were constructed by performing GC-SCD analysis of different H2S gas standard concentrations (from 3 mg kg−1 up to 500 mg kg−1). These experimental curves are better fitted by an unweighted quadratic calibration curve considering ANOVA approach compared to ASTM D5504-12. Despite this, the obtained results show that these two different calibration curve approaches (ASTM and ANOVA) lead to comparable results. Hence, there are no significant statistical differences between these two approaches based on the hypothesis test applied. However, the quadratic calibration curve presents measurement uncertainties of H2S mass fractions much lower than the ASTM approach.

Surface water contaminated by metals can configure serious risk to public health and the environment. The uncontrolled release of various pollutants in the aquatic environment is currently a priority issue for the preservation of drinking water sources in many countries around the world, including Brazil. The city of Juiz de Fora has a long industrial tradition, with emphasis on the existence of a metal and leather that dump waste without adequate treatment in the streams and rivers. A comparative assessment of different parameters in isolation provides only a limited idea of pollution with reference to that particular parameter. Therefore, in recent years has been growing interest in the use of pollution indices that incorporate the influence of different parameters simultaneously. The objective of this study was to evaluate the current status of pollution in surface waters of industrial stretch of the Paraibuna River, the city of Juiz de Fora (MG) and determine the applicability and limitations of two indices of water pollution as well documented. In this study, the results were statistically treated and showed that concentrations of Ca, Cd, Cu, Mn, Na and Zn by far exceeding the maximum permissible for some sample points making them unusable for human consumption and maintenance of an adequate environmental quality. Although the two pollution indices were statistically equal to use of the provided conflicting interpretations about the degree of pollution of surface water in these samples.

Due to their nature, carbonate rocks are extremely sensitive to chemical reactions with fluids. Water injection in carbonate rocks for reservoir pressure maintenance may start geochemical reactions that may change the composition of the fluids and the petrophysical properties of the rock, especially when there is CO2 involved in the process. This paper presents a study addressing the impact of geochemical interactions between fluid and rock on the elastic properties of limestone reservoir rocks, resulting from CO2 and water injection. Initial modeling indicate that the geochemical effects can generate a differentiated time-lapse (4D) seismic response, going in the opposite direction when compared to conventional response due to the reservoir production only, where the oil is generally replaced by water. CAMPOS BASIN.Benthic foraminifera are very useful as environmental indicators but provide less resolution concerning the biostratigraphy due to their usual long ranges.Nevertheless, there is a general consensus that the ecological sensibility of particular bathyal assemblages is an important framework to the time constraint.This study aims the proposition of a biostratigraphic zonation to the Upper Quaternary of Campos Basin, using the distribution and frequency patterns of benthic foraminifera as indicators of the major paleoclimatic events related to the glacial and interglacial stages of the last Quaternary glacial cycle.For this purpose, 64 samples from two piston cores drilled on the continental slope of Campos Basin, southwestern Brazil were analyzed.Three benthic biozones were recognized: Cibicidoides pachyderma, Nonionella auris and Gyroidinoides nitidula, which show a good correlation between studied cores and with the international ecozones X, Y and Z.
