Supervisors' Experiences of the Contributions of the Second Supervisee in Triadic Supervision: A Qualitative Investigation
A qualitative study was conducted to investigate supervisors' experiences of the contributions made by the second supervisee in triadic supervision. In-depth, open-ended interviews were conducted with 6 supervisors in a counselor education program. Participants viewed the second supervisee as a source of valuable information and insights for both the supervisor and the supervision peer and promoted the latter's learning and growth. The second supervisee's presence enhanced certain supervision activities or allowed new activities to be used. The addition of a second supervisee in triadic supervision changes the dynamics from those of individual supervision to something more similar to group supervision.

Within a retail bank, the key risks relate to customers and the way in which the bank deals with them, rather than to financial markets. This paper identifies those key risks, comments on some implications for organisational structure and suggests ways in which these risks can be managed.
Read moreLung carcinoma with metastasis to testicular seminoma
Tumor-to-tumor metastases are uncommon. The most frequent donor tumors are the lung, whereas renal cell carcinoma is by far the most common recipient. In this report the authors describe a lung tumor that metastasized to a testicular seminoma. This is the first reported case of tumor-to-tumor metastases in which seminoma of the testis is the recipient. The authors performed mucin and immunohistochemical studies on this case and on ten cases of nonseminomatous germ cell tumors containing embryonal carcinoma and endodermal sinus tumor for comparison. Mucin positivity as well as immunoreactivity for epithelial membrane and carcinoembryonic antigens were confined to metastatic adenocarcinoma in this case, whereas Ki-1 and alpha-fetoprotein immunostaining were restricted to the ten control cases of germ cell tumors. Although the majority of second malignant components found in a seminoma are other nonseminomatous germ cell components, the rare possibility exists that a second malignant component is a metastasis from elsewhere in the body.
Read moreExploring the Influences on Principal Behavior
What principals do and the effects they have on schools have been the object of much research over the past decade. Because some patterns of principals' practices have been demonstrated to have considerable impact on schools, it seems important to better understand the reasons for what principals do. The two studies reported in this paper looked for such reasons in the context of the implementation of a special education policy in the province of Ontario. We asked what "factors" influenced the policy implementation activities of principals. Study one data were collected through lengthy interviews with 23 elementary and secondary principals; study two data were provided by 114 principals in response to a questionnaire. Results identified the major factors influencing principals' implementation activities and explored such variables as previous training and patterns of practice. The study suggests that school boards have the option of fostering more or less autonomous, "empowered" patterns of school administrator practices.

The metabolism of halothane was examined in patients with acyanotic and cyanotic congenital heart disease undergoing open heart surgery. Statistically significant (P < 0.05) presurgical differences between acyanotic and cyanotic groups included pH (7.46 ± 0.02 vs 7.36 ± 0.02)PaO2 (277 ± 58 vs 51 ± 3 ion)O2 saturation (97 ± 1 vs 74 ± 4%)and hematocrit (45 ± 3 vs 58 ± 2%). Serum fluoride levels were significantly greater in cyanotic than in acyanotic groups 2–4 hours after initial exposure to halothane. Both groups had significant intragroup increases in serum levels of fluoride, bromide, and trifluoroacetic acid. Significant increases in serum levels of lactate dehydrogenase, creatinine phos- phokinase, and glutamic oxaloacetate transaminase were observed in both groups, whereas, the cyanotic patients had additional significant increases in blood urea nitrogen and direct bilirubin. The cyanotic group also had higher total and direct serum bilirubin levels than the acyanotic group. Therefore, patients with cyanotic congenital heart disease had greater reductive metabolism of halothane than acyanotics. However, cyanotic and acyanotic patients had essentially similar postoperative derangements in hepatic and renal function.
