For accelerated 3-year MD (3YMD) pathways to be fully adopted in medical education, a comprehensive analysis of outcome data is needed. This study includes 7 accelerated 3YMD graduating classes at NYU Grossman School of Medicine (NYUGSOM) and reports on outcomes from both medical school and internship compared with their 4-year MD (4YMD) counterparts. Outcomes across the undergraduate-graduate medical education continuum for the first 7 classes of NYUGSOM graduates (matriculated from 2013-2019) from the accelerated 3YMD (n = 136) and 4YMD pathways (n = 681) were compared. For the internship outcomes, 3YMD interns were compared with 4YMD interns who graduated from NYUGSOM and all 4YMD interns (4YMD graduates from NYUGSOM and any other medical school) at NYUGSOM residencies. Accelerated 3YMD students were approximately 5 months older at admission and had higher multiple mini-interview scores than 4YMD students. Overall, accelerated 3YMD students performed similarly to 4YMD students during medical school and internship. Significant differences included higher performance by 3YMD students on preclerkship exams and lower performance on Steps 1 and 2 (average: 5.6 and 5.4 fewer points, respectively) and the physical examination portion of the NYUGSOM Comprehensive Clinical Skills Exam. Internship data indicated comparable team assessments across all residencies, statistically significant higher performance on Step 3 when compared with all 4YMD interns, and, in internal medicine, comparable clinical reasoning between 3YMD and all 4YMD interns. When comparing 3YMD interns to all 4YMD interns in the internal medicine residency program, 3YMD interns had a statistically significantly higher performance on milestones. The outcomes from 7 years of graduating accelerated 3YMD students at NYUGSOM show similar performance in medical school and early residency to 4YMD graduates. Long-term study of accelerated 3YMD students from NYUGSOM and other medical schools is needed to further validate the success of this innovative medical education pathway.

Learning with limited labelled data, such as prompting, in-context learning, fine-tuning, meta-learning or few-shot learning, aims to effectively train a model using only a small amount of labelled samples. However, these approaches have been observed to be excessively sensitive to the effects of uncontrolled randomness caused by non-determinism in the training process. The randomness negatively affects the stability of the models, leading to large variances in results across training runs. When such sensitivity is disregarded, it can unintentionally, but unfortunately also intentionally, create an imaginary perception of research progress. Recently, this area started to attract research attention and the number of relevant studies is continuously growing. In this survey, we provide a comprehensive overview of 415 papers addressing the effects of randomness on the stability of learning with limited labelled data. We distinguish between four main tasks addressed in the papers (investigate/evaluate; determine; mitigate; benchmark/compare/report randomness effects), providing findings for each one. Furthermore, we identify and discuss seven challenges and open problems together with possible directions to facilitate further research. The ultimate goal of this survey is to emphasise the importance of this growing research area, which so far has not received an appropriate level of attention, and reveal impactful directions for future research.

Abstract An underlying assumption in Multivariate Singular Spectrum Analysis (MSSA) is that the time series are governed by a linear recurrent continuation. However, in the presence of a structural break, multiple series can be transferred from one homogeneous state to another over a comparatively short time breaking this assumption. As a consequence, forecasting performance can degrade significantly. In this paper, we propose a state‐dependent model to incorporate the movement of states in the linear recurrent formula called a State‐Dependent Multivariate SSA (SD‐MSSA) model. The proposed model is examined for its reliability in the presence of a structural break by conducting an empirical analysis covering both synthetic and real data. Comparison with standard MSSA, BVAR, VAR and VECM models shows the proposed model outperforms all three models significantly.

Turvallisuuden varmistaminen on elintärkeä osa sairaaloiden jokapäiväistä toimintaa.

When it comes to controlling and optimising information- and value flows in manufacturing industry, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) is still the preferred option. Despite the immense potential, there is currently a particular caution to be observed in the market for ERP systems. One reason is a prevalent uncertainty about the ongoing 'e-revolution' of traditional business processes. Because the standard ERP systems regard themselves as the epicentre of any enterprise architecture, they cause exceeding consequential costs for reengineering a business. The term ERP-II has been coined to describe alternative information system architectures in which flexible and customized federations of smaller business components interact, even over enterprise and intranet boundaries, by means of a platform-neutral communication bus. It is the central challenge for the ERP vendors at the beginning of the new millennium to evolve and migrate their existing logic and customer installations towards this vision. In this paper, we would like to share our experiences in transforming a particular ERP product for mid-sized businesses into an ERP-II platform. To realise the proposed business bus, we chose a modern middleware based on the ubiquitous eXtended Markup Language. To realise a suitable, object-oriented runtime environment for business components, we chose the powerful Java 2 Enterprise Edition?. Both flavours have been conveniently blended into the notion of Business Web Services to cook a new generation of business processes inside the Web-ERP.
