IntroductionEarly dropout from engineering programs is a major concern for higher education institutions (HEIs) in emerging economies. Understanding the factors that influence students’ decisions to abandon their studies is essential for designing effective retention strategies.MethodsThis study uses a quantitative approach through Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM), based on the Spady model. A survey was conducted with 190 engineering students from a private university in Medellín, Colombia.ResultsThe analysis revealed that academic and emotional support significantly influence students’ decisions to continue their studies. Institutional commitment and structured support mechanisms provided by HEIs emerged as critical determinants of student retention.DiscussionThe findings underscore the importance of implementing university welfare strategies aimed at strengthening students’ academic and emotional well-being. These strategies serve as key levers to reduce dropout rates and reinforce the role of HEIs in supporting engineering students throughout their educational trajectory.

CNN originates from image processing and is not commonly known as a forecasting technique in time-series analysis which depends on the quality of input data. One of the methods to improve the quality is by smoothing the data. This study introduces a novel hybrid exponential smoothing using CNN called Smoothed-CNN (S-CNN). The method of combining tactics outperforms the majority of individual solutions in forecasting. The S-CNN was compared with the original CNN method and other forecasting methods such as Multilayer Perceptron (MLP) and Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM). The dataset is a year time-series of daily website visitors. Since there are no special rules for using the number of hidden layers, the Lucas number was used. The results show that S-CNN is better than MLP and LSTM, with the best MSE of 0.012147693 using 76 hidden layers at 80%:20% data composition.

One effect of technology development is the dissemination of scientific publications that convert in electronic format. Generally, the basic practice between author, reader, and publisher in offering manuscript, reading, and publishing are not drastically changing. But, it is just changing the flow in digital format. However, in its implementation, many publishers still did not understand the ideal publication process management. This process and management are related to the pre-publishing, production process, and post-publishing. Therefore, this article describes the curriculum design to implement it into formal education, especially in higher education at the magister level. Since there is no formal education in scientific publication management in Indonesia, this curriculum design is the potential to develop. In its development, the curriculum is adopted based on existing related courses from several universities abroad. Those curricula are collected and compared for further development according to the needs. The results extract several courses divided into four semesters with detailed information related to the management of the scientific publication. It is expected that the graduates of this program be able to contribute to the scientific publication business and industry and fulfill the needs of scientific content both in quantity and quality.

Optimization and sensitivity analysis of the kinetic parameters of the catalytic ozonation process is crucial to improve water treatment, reactor design, and construction. This study evaluated the optimization of the kinetic constants for Diclofenac (DCF) degradation during catalytic ozonation with Goethite (FeOOH, as a catalyst) through different kinetic modeling approaches. A central composite design was used to evaluate the effect of ozone dose and catalyst loading. The results showed that FeOOH did not significantly influence the degradation of DCF, while the reactivity of DCF with ozone was high (with >90% degradations in 20 min). However, the variation in catalyst loading significantly affected TOC removal (>10%) and ozone use, with ozone efficiency in ozone transfer (RU) 5% higher than ozonation. After evaluating the different kinetic models of reaction speed by optimizing kinetic parameters and performing sensitivity analysis for the treatment of DCF by catalytic ozonation, it can be concluded that the addition of FeOOH improved the kinetics of the decomposition of ozone and the yield in the production of hydroxyl radicals.

Higher education institutions' wireless networks have different roles and network requirements, ranging from educational platforms and informative consultations. Currently, the inefficient use of network resources, poor wireless planning, and other factors, affect having a robust and stable network platform. Different authors have investigated the various strategies for the optimization of wireless infrastructures. Still, most of the cases studied aim to improve traditional performance variables without considering maximizing the level of user satisfaction, which represents a flaw that this research paper hopes to solve through SDWN and a predictive model. The authors will determine an appropriate methodology to estimate the user's level of satisfaction through an algorithm or predictive model based on nonlinear multiple regression supported on network performance variables, making a characterization of the project's environment analyzing the wireless conditions. The investigation phases will follow the life cycle guidelines defined by the Cisco PPDIOO methodology (Prepare, Plan, Design, Implement, Operate, Optimize). As a result, it is expected that the project will be the beginning of academic research that will help create strategies to optimize the WiFi network of any educational institution to maximize user satisfaction. In short, the optimization process provides the network with differentiating factors through a modular design with variable modification of parameters according to the users' requirements and needs.

Forage seeds often have a low germination percentage due to their seeds' dormancy, such as seeds of the genus Urochloa. Chemical scarification is chosen to overcome the dormancy, yet the seed's vigor level is not taken into account. On this wise, the method can harm the seed's quality. In this context, the study aimed to investigate the appropriate scarification period in brachiaria seeds and how the lot's thermal stress can affect this result. The experimental design was completely randomized, arranged in a 3x4 factorial scheme, designated by thermal stress (0, 24, and 48 hours) and periods of chemical scarification with concentrated sulfuric acid (0, 5, 10, and 15 minutes), with four repetitions. After scarification of the treatments, the seeds were evaluated for germination and vigor criteria. Scarification for 5 minutes is enough to express the quality of Urochloa brizantha cv. MG-5. This technique is not recommended after the seeds are severely stressed by temperature and humidity.
