Read moreThe Propagation of Online Rumours Slandering Multinational Companies in Egypt
The digital communication boom in Egypt presents higher unpredictability to multinational companies operating in different countries. This gives unprecedented ground to rumours on all levels, economic, social and political, with the rise of Web 2.0. It is essential for research to keep pace with these changes, where social media has changed the game and Internet users are no longer passive players, but they can actively create and spread rumours. This chapter presents a new approach by analysing three concrete case studies of commercial rumours on Facebook in Egypt. The cases belong to different business sectors such as telecommunications, dairy products and FMCG. The data is collected using multiple tools together with online observation (netnography) and some semi-directive interviews with key players involved in the dissemination process. This chapter argues how socio-cultural differences and filters in Egypt affect rumour dissemination. The analysis involves the anatomy of initiators and type of interactions on Facebook until the debunking process. The results obtained in this chapter, and the main techniques used, can naturally extend to other countries and to another type of similar digital platform.

Read moreBrand heritage as a temporal perception: conceptualisation, measure and consequences
ABSTRACTThis research looks at the concept of brand heritage as a branded representation of the past and its influence on cognitive and affective responses. Although numerous items of research mention brand heritage, the subject still lacks conceptual clarity. This paper aims to address this gap and to build a scale measuring its perception by consumers. The literature review leads to a conceptualisation of brand heritage as the perception of a brand’s temporal management. Then, one qualitative and three quantitative studies facilitate the emergence and validate a three-dimensional scale of perceived brand heritage. A model demonstrates how brand heritage enhances brand credibility and personal nostalgia. This paper contributes to the apprehension of change and continuity in brand management, with potential extensions to other disciplines.

Frugal supply chains: a managerial and societal perspective
PurposeThe paper aims to introduce the issue of supply chain management in the context of increasingly rare and costly resources and to define the notion of frugal supply chain, in particular, in reference to the development of circular economy. The challenges of frugal supply chain are detailed for a set of private and public stakeholders.Design/methodology/approachAs a programmatic viewpoint, this paper aims at developing debates regarding the future of supply chains, building upon current technical and managerial innovations.FindingsFrugal supply chains constitute a new business perspective. It transforms the way value creation process is considered, in reference to the models of circular economy, and the systems in which companies evolve. The circular economy represents many opportunities for new forms of growth in the context of rare resources, and it raises several challenges for a variety of stakeholders, more or less, involved in the management of closed loop supply chains.Practical implicationsFrugal strategies in a supply chain context may provide both a source of competitive advantage for companies and an enhancement of their commitment to society.Social implicationsThe practices described in the paper aim at stimulating a new view of logistics management, based on the principles of sustainable development. Frugal supply chains offer the possibility of reflecting on a more moderate, sensible and effective use of several commons by taking part in the conservation of rare resources for future generations.Originality/valueThis viewpoint introduces the concept of frugal supply chains, rarely approached in the literature, and it offers the opportunity to open debates on managerial and societal challenges linked to logistics strategies and, more broadly, to inter-organizational relations.
