We report the automated deployment of 5G services across a latency-aware, semidisaggregated, and virtualized metro network. We summarize the key findings in a detailed analysis of end-to-end latency, service setup time, and soft-failure detection time.

The evolution of innovative high-temperature electrochemical devices, such as high temperature solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs), gas separators and gas reformers, consisting of metal–ceramic-joints is challenging. The seals have to be stable and gastight in isothermal high-temperature as well as in thermo-cyclic operation. Here, the reduction of porosity is the primary aim, to obtain air brazed joints with a long lifetime. In the last years, reactive air brazing (RAB) has gained rising interest for the joining of ceramic–ceramic and ceramic–metal compounds. In this paper an alternative brazing filler metal manufacturing process employing (physical vapor deposition (PVD)) is applied and its feasibility for the production of metal–ceramic composites has been investigated for Ag–4 wt%CuO. For RAB aluminum oxide with ferritic high chromium steel Crofer22APU have been joined. The pore formation in subordination of the braze and base materials can be monitored after brazing. By modifying the brazing process, the pore formation in the joints can be avoided. The microstructure of brazed joints with the developed braze foils is studied. Discussion of the results focuses on the influence of microstructural evolution on mechanical properties, the pore formation in the brazing seam and failure behavior of the brazed joints. A correlation between the process parameters brazing temperature and holding time and the achieved compound properties could be derived. Further, excellent wetting of the ceramic was obtained. The highest shear strength with 123 MPa was measured for a temperature of 1000 °C and 5 min, using the Ag4CuO alloy.

Lean Management builds the basis for efficient production systems for many industrial companies. However, lots of potentials of Lean Management have been lifted and information and communication technologies in the context of digitalization and cyber-physical production systems (CPPS) offer new possibilities to enhance the performance of companies. Even though surveys indicate that companies recognize these potentials, especially small and medium-sized companies still face challenges in selection and implementation of suitable solutions. Thus, the research project GaProSys 4.0 aims at supporting companies with a systematic approach to combine existing structures of Lean Management with potentials of digitalization in development of a new set of methods to enhance production systems. This paper presents the approach of the research project to develop a structured set of methods and provides an example to illustrate the potentials.

During the development of production plants, powerful tools (e.g. for CAD, CAE, or simulation) are used. The resulting engineering data represent the basis for the development of the corresponding HMI. However, this development is usually still performed manually to a great extent. Therefore, this paper describes a model-based approach for the integrated design of HMIs for production plants. Beginning with the aggregation of available engineering data in a plant model, a multi-step transformation workflow is presented. The user is enabled to edit the intermediary results and thus influence the generated HMI. A concrete implementation of the workflow is presented by means of a case study for a sample production plant.

The optimization of robot paths is important to reduce cycle times in industrial production processes. Even small time savings will accumulate and thus reduce production costs. This paper shows a method to automate the optimization of blended PTP movements for industrial robots and compares the performance of three metaheuristics.

Microstructural changes like micro deformation and damaging due to tensile load precede the macroscopical failure of a component. In order to contribute to the understanding of such processes, the microstructure of tensile test specimens was imaged by microtomography in the course of deformation. The specimens consist of particle reinforced metal matrix composites (the MMCs Cobalt/Diamond and Al/TiN) manufactured on a powder metallurgical route. Tomograms of a volume in the gauge length of the specimens were reconstructed from the projection data acquired at different deformation stages. Both polychromatic radiation of a microfocus X-ray tube and monochromatic synchrotron radiation were used for projection data acquisition. With the help of 3D data processing 3D surface nets were extracted from the tomograms which indicate the particle/matrix interface. These nets which are composed of triangles were afterwards optimized with respect to the shape of the triangles. Using the triangles as seeds a 3D FE-mesh without gaps consisting of tetrahedra was generated. 3D FE-simulations were carried out utilizing both arbitrary and realistic boundary constraints. Realistic conditions were derived from an iterative matching procedure of tomograms. The effect of finite element type (tetrahedron or hexahedron) on the simulated distribution of stresses was analyzed. The appearance and development of plastic zones in the metal matrix depending on externally applied displacements were studied in the simulations. The calculated peak stresses are compared with the loci of cracks found in the tomograms.
