Skills Ecosystem and the Role of School Management for Sustainable Development of Dual Education
The article presents an analysis of the mechanisms used by a vocational high school in Bulgaria to develop dual training and implement it sustainably. It focuses on the school management’s leadership role in the network of different stakeholders, demonstrating the importance of this aspect in the entire process of developing dual education. Apart from the case analysis of the Bulgarian vocational high school’s successful implementation of dual learning, the research strategy includes examining regulatory documents, evaluation reports and publications in media and by companies, as well as analyzing the attitudes among key stakeholders. An overview of the challenges facing dual education in Bulgaria is also provided. Based on the case study findings, the factors supporting the implementation and sustainability of the dual system have been identified. We conclude that the long-term development of the dual education model depends on the understanding that the formation of professional skills is a dynamic process, requiring attention to the needs of the local environment, adaptability to current changes and active participation by all stakeholders. The role of school leadership—with regard to both its motivation and activity—has proven to be essential, and therefore it should not be overlooked when creating state incentives to support dual training.
Moje dziennikarstwo – alkohol, nieudane terapie, kobiety źle kochane, zaniedbane córki i strach przed świtem. Dotyczył on głównie problematycznych relacji autora z kobietami.

Divergent Paths of SME Digitalization: A Latent Class Approach to Regional Modernization in the European Union
Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) constitute the backbone of the EU economy, yet their uneven digital transformation raises challenges for competitiveness and territorial cohesion. This article examines the organizational and spatial aspects of SME digitalization across the European Union using Flash Eurobarometer 486 data and latent class analysis (LCA) combined with Bayesian multilevel multinomial regression. The results reveal four SME digitalization profiles—Digitally Conservative Backbone; Partially Digital and Upgrading; Digitally Advanced and Diversified; and Focused Digital Integrators—reflecting diverse adoption patterns of key technologies such as AI, big data and cloud computing. Digitalization is shaped by organizational factors (firm size, value chain integration, digital barriers) and territorial factors (urbanity, border proximity, national digital infrastructure as measured by the Digital Economy and Society Index, DESI). Contrary to linear modernization assumptions, digital adoption follows geographically embedded trajectories, with sectoral uptake occurring even in low-DESI or non-urban regions. These results challenge core–periphery models and highlight the significance of place-based innovation networks. The study contributes to modernization theory and regional innovation systems by showing that digital inequalities exist not only between countries but also within regions and among adoption profiles, emphasizing the need for nuanced, multi-level digital policy approaches across Europe.

Abstract Many successful explanations show how causally individuated parts are responsible for the occurrence of the phenomena that scientists seek to explain. On this view, parts that are chosen only by convention, and related only through correlations, cannot possibly figure in successful explanations. This is because without some form of causal grounding, it seems unintelligible why any explanatory relation between these parts and the phenomenon of interest would hold. This problem is particularly pronounced in functional connectivity models (FC) in neuroscience. These models typically represent time series of recurrent neural activity in conventionally determined spatial regions (as a network’s nodes) and synchronization likelihoods among these time series (as its edges). Many neuroscientists and philosophers maintain that because of this, FC models cannot provide explanations. We formulate this problem more precisely and then show that it rests on an impoverished interpretation of scientific models in general and FC models in particular. We then provide a positive account of how FC models provide a variety of neuroscientific explanations.

We consider the problem of evaluating and expanding upon speculative hypotheses about the origin of life. The combination of life's complexity and its potential for historical contingency makes missing knowledge and missing ideas, which we term 'gaps', obstructive for an unusually wide variety of its most basic questions. The methods of scientific empiricism developed to justify beliefs in mature and stable sciences have proved less useful for reasoning through gaps, where criteria of consistency may rarely be met, and weaker criteria such as metaphor serve as motivations in practice. We consider the particular role of scenarios in the justification of speculative hypotheses, as they relate to questions of chance and necessity and the sources of causation. We demonstrate how making causal frameworks explicit may support more systematic reasoning about speculative and fragmentary hypotheses than the scenarios in which they are often framed. This article is part of the theme issue 'Origins of life: the possible and the actual'.

Jest on modyfikacją koncepcji proponowanej wcześniej w USA przez Rodolfa i in. (2005).
