Abstract Can the increasing involvement of external actors in domestic constitution-making be reconciled with the idea that constituent power belongs to the people subjected to the legal order it creates? Against the attempt to solve this tension pragmatically by distinguishing various degrees of ‘internationalized constituent power’, I argue that constituent power over domestic constitutions is, and cannot be, internationalized. I propose to recover the power-critical core of constituent power by understanding it as directed against unauthorized power, that is, against domination. This understanding shifts the key question away from the degree of influence as to whether external constitution-making is dominating. If external constitution-making is embedded in effective transnational institutions that prevent transnational domination, constituent power remains firmly in the hands of the constitution-making people who can authorize external involvement. If it is not, however, constituent power is not internationalized but rather usurped and effectively eclipsed—and the resulting domestic constitutional order unauthorized.

Science is a gigantic network of search for knowledge, where researchers set up and test hypotheses, and the results are made available to other researchers, mainly through publications. The outcome of the subsequent discussion defines the current standing of scientific knowledge.

As indicated in several earlier chapters in this anthology, traffic safety data are of many different types and studied in a large number of different activities.

Diagnostic challenges continue to impede development of effective therapies for successful management of alcohol-associated hepatitis (AH), creating an unmet need to identify noninvasive biomarkers for AH. In murine models, complement contributes to ethanol-induced liver injury. Therefore, we hypothesized that complement proteins could be rational diagnostic/prognostic biomarkers in AH. Here, we performed a comparative analysis of data derived from human hepatic and serum proteome to identify and characterize complement protein signatures in severe AH (sAH). The quantity of multiple complement proteins was perturbed in liver and serum proteome of patients with sAH. Multiple complement proteins differentiated patients with sAH from those with alcohol cirrhosis (AC) or alcohol use disorder (AUD) and healthy controls (HCs). Serum collectin 11 and C1q binding protein were strongly associated with sAH and exhibited good discriminatory performance among patients with sAH, AC, or AUD and HCs. Furthermore, complement component receptor 1-like protein was negatively associated with pro-inflammatory cytokines. Additionally, lower serum MBL associated serine protease 1 and coagulation factor II independently predicted 90-day mortality. In summary, meta-analysis of proteomic profiles from liver and circulation revealed complement protein signatures of sAH, highlighting a complex perturbation of complement and identifying potential diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers for patients with sAH.

This is the proceedings volume from the 8th biannual teaching and learning conference at Lund University, LUTL-22. The conference theme, Lifelong Learning and Higher Education: New (and Old) Perspectives, gave rise to a rich spread of presentations and discussions. The volume in your hand holds 13 contributions based on keynote addresses, papers, panels, and roundtable discussions from the conference. The pedagogical objectives, practices, and challenges of supporting lifelong learning have become pronounced elements in the fabric of higher education in recent years. What does this entail for the teaching staff: for our missions, our methods, and our own professional learning? These issues, and more besides, are approached between these covers.

This introduction to the Special Issue “Religion, Media, Materiality” succinctly outlines the central themes of media and authority, serving as tertia comparationis within the volume, and evokes their significance in addressing media changes from a transdisciplinary perspective. It surveys three theoretical frameworks and general perspectives on the interplay between religion, media, and authority, as put forth by Stewart Hoover, Birgit Meyer, and David Morgan. The discussion emphasises how the case studies examined by Sarit Shalev-Eyni, Ines Weinrich, Hanna Staehle, Giulia Evolvi, and Tim Karis actively engage with these frameworks. In doing so, they contribute to a more nuanced understanding of the intricate connections between media, authority, and religion, offering a detailed exploration of these overarching concepts.

Abstract Muslim women’s devotional lives have been largely understood within two paradigms: women’s practices as alternatives to those of men and the historical and contemporary recovery of women’s religious learning and authority. This chapter engages with ontological questions posed and complicated by each paradigm. On one hand, the “women’s alternative practices” paradigm raises the question of whether women’s-only rituals are empowering or if the same gender hierarchy and women’s exclusion from public ritual life that necessitates the need for alternative religious practices is an acceptance of an inferior or subordinate ontological status as devotional beings. On the other hand, the “recovery” paradigm asks whether a relationship to the Divine unmediated by men or gender norms is made possible through access to religious education, egalitarian interpretations of Islamic texts, the need for additional theological, ethical, and philosophical materials within the Islamic religious tradition, or a combination of all.
