Animated titles, like lower thirds, bugs, tickers, and scoreline readouts have become a standard for live, over-the-air broadcasts. For live streaming, and for video on demand (VOD) content, however, adding these same rich, animated, and variable title assets can present significant challenges for broadcasters and content creators. Modern streaming and VOD workflows need to leverage template driven graphics and titling workflows that look great on both large screens as well as mobile devices. This paper explores new and emerging technologies for creating rich, animated titles, and for applying them to streams and assembling them into on demand and online broadcast workflows.

There is significant frustration among business leaders and CIOs concerning the success of their systems in the field. There is an equal frustration among HCI professionals at the marginalized role that usability often plays in systems development efforts. These frustrations are, to a large extent, two sides of the same coin. This panel will consider how CIOs manage the apparently competing challenges of faster/better/cheaper systems and the time and money required for developing highly usable systems. They will discuss the strategies and techniques that they use to integrate usability into systems design and development.
