Some rivulids are specialized to live in temporary or ephemeral water bodies, and for this reason they are known as annual or seasonal fishes. The fact that these seasonal species inhabit small temporary wetlands, which are easily modified and destroyed, represents a major challenge to their conservation and often puts them at risk of extinction. In Bolivia, one of the countries with the highest recent loss of primary tropical forests, of 32 recorded species, more than half (19) are endemic, and nearly one-third (9) are known only from their type localities. Of the 20 species assessed by the IUCN that occur in the country, eight have been classified in some threat category, and one of them, Moema claudiae (Costa, 2003), is listed as Critically Endangered and possibly extinct. The species had not been recorded in the wild for more than 20 years, and its only known locality—as well as much of its potential distribution area—have been severely degraded and are now occupied by extensive agroindustrial crops. In this work, we report the finding of a population of Moema claudiae recently discovered in a temporary pond within a small forest remnant surrounded by crops. This discovery allows us to provide the first live photographs of the species, along with previously unknown aspects of its biology and ecology. Furthermore, it offers an exceptional opportunity of a second chance to conserve a species that was already believed to be extinct and lost forever.

By investigating the impact of different presentation orders, Mogilner et al. (2013) demonstrated that consumers are more satisfied and committed when the options of a choice set were presented all at once (simultaneously) rather than one at a time (sequentially). We replicate this effect in the online dating context across two studies and demonstrate that choosers are more satisfied and committed if they viewed all dating profiles simultaneously rather than sequentially when making their choice. This effect is mainly driven by regret arising from foregoing options in sequential settings.

Das in diesem Beitrag beschriebene Forschungsvorhaben wurde von den Autorinnen im Rahmen ihres studienintegrierten Forschungsprojektes im konsekutiven Masterstudiengang Soziale Arbeit mit dem Schwerpunkt Bildung und Integration an der Katholischen Hochschule NRW in Aachen durchgefuhrt.

Aim of the study was to provide information about the prevalence of cancer related fatigue and the association between treatment-related factors and fatigue in cancer patients during the rehabilitation care. In a multicenter study 693 cancer patients (27% breast cancer, 17% prostate cancer etc.) completed the Multidimensional Fatigue Inventory (MFI-20) and sociodemographic and treatment information was noted. 51% of the patients suffer from fatigue (n=356). Fatigue prevalence differed according to tumour localization (p≤0.001). There was a substantial association between fatigue and treatment condition in terms of the combination of surgery and radiation (p≤0.05). Fatigue was high prevalent in patients in the rehabilitation care. Thus, fatigue should be routinely screened and after differentiated diagnostics be considered in rehabilitation care plans.
