Catalysts and Deterrents for STEAM Talent Development of Students from Economically-Disadvantaged Families Through Specialized STEAM Talent Residential High Schools
Talent developmental experiences of economically disadvantaged students of Specialized STEM Talent Residential High Schools (SSTRHS) were investigated. Nine students who were preferentially admitted to SSTRHS due to their families’ economic disadvantage were interviewed twice on their experiences from early childhood to college. The data were verified by checking with survey data, national gifted education data and interviews with master teachers. A thematic analysis revealed that STEM talent was recognized early by parents and acknowledged through competitions. However, there were limited resources and opportunities for them to study advanced mathematics systematically and intensely until they entered SSTRHS. At the SSTRHS, they struggled with an extremely accelerated math curriculum. However, with support from advanced peers and teachers, they could cope with their weaknesses caused by limited dosage of STEM learning. Experience conducting research with peers and mentors were the most critical catalysts for their planning for future careers as research scientists.

The public sphere in the internet age is shaped by changes in traditional information consumption practices. With the rise of social media and other online platforms, the ways in which people access and consume information have shifted significantly. One major change is the increased role of user participation in shaping the public sphere. The online users are forced to act and participate. Currently media users are active and looking for information. The World Wide Web is a giant external memory, capable of storing a lot of information. Data can be by all. Even if the use of books for five centuries made linear thinking the primary means of reasoning, now it is gradually replaced by multitask, nonlinear, more thinking faster, more fluid and shallower at the same time. Internet users who relying on this external memory has better data analysis capacity, but does not have more synthesis capacity. External memory in the world wide web becomes "Source of amnesia" citizens: they know the information, but they forget sources (and consequently they do not question the credibility of sources). This forms the practice of consuming and producing people's information in virtual public spaces. The purpose of this paper is to find out how educated young adults consume and generate information in virtual space
Read moreLearning analytics in seamless learning environments: a systematic review
ABSTRACT We implemented a systematic literature review to investigate the trends and issues of learning analytics in seamless learning environments. We collected and analyzed a total of 27 empirical journal articles that study and discuss learning analytics design and implementation in seamless learning environments. In a recent decade, researchers have explored various seamless learning environments supporting students’ inquiry-based and experiential learning. Seamless learning aims to engage students to develop, elaborate, and apply knowledge to various inquiry-based learning contexts. With the significance of formative assessment in digital learning environments, integrating learning analytics into seamless learning environments increasingly evolved to trace and assess student learning. Despite various uses of learning analytics during seamless learning, there is a lack of comprehensive reviews that illustrate how learning analytics has been integrated into seamless learning. This literature synthesis decomposes the collected journal articles to understand learning analytics design and integrations inherent to seamless learning environments. Also, using qualitative thematic analysis, this systematic literature review demonstrates various design practices and future research directions of learning analytics in seamless learning environments.

The purpose of this classroom action research was to determine the increase in activity and learning outcomes of Mathematics learning in grade VI SD 2 Kesambi, Kudus Regency through the Jigsaw model assisted by question cards. The Jigsaw learning model is a variation of the Cooperative Learning model, which is a group learning process where each member contributes information, experiences, ideas, attitudes, to jointly improve the understanding of all members. The research was carried out in 2 cycles, each cycle of four stages, namely planning, implementing, observing and reflecting. It is proven by the existence of a jigsaw model assisted by a question card to improve learning outcomes from the initial conditions, cycle I, and cycle II. Classical completeness in the initial conditions was 17 students (49%), cycle I was 25 students (71%), in cycle II it was 29 students (83%). Likewise, student learning activities in the first cycle with a class average of 73 and in the second cycle it became 79. Keywords: Mathematic, Jigsaw, Question Card
