In this paper, we propose a reflection design solution for a single-user reconfigurable intelligent surface aided mmWave MIMO communication system with multiple streams, by formulating it as a spectral efficiency maximization problem. A heuristic low-complexity reflection design (LCRD) method is proposed in the form of a non-iterative algorithm. It is then compared to benchmark methods and is found to demonstrate an extremely low complexity rendering it highly efficient for practical applications with only a slight trade-off in accuracy as compared to more computationally intensive methods.

This paper reviews the pending patent of preventing method of malfunctions of the fingerprint reader caused by the magnetic field from the NFC antenna when the NFC antenna was integrated into the fingerprint reader(FPR). The FPR_active signal was newly defined and input from the fingerprint reader to the NFC controller. This new signal is activated while the fingerprint reader is scanning the fingerprint. Therefore, the NFC controller can stop its radio activity which causes the malfunctions of fingerprint reader while the fingerprint reader is scanning the fingerprint.

This paper reviews the new small NFC antenna integrated under the bezel of the hybrid-covered tablet. The challenge was to reduce the NFC antenna size to 8mm × 20mm × 1.85mm without trading off the usability. If the NFC antenna size is getting smaller with full-metal rear cover, the NFC detection area gets smaller which could cause the degradation of the usability. The NFC detection area of the new small antenna was improved by changing the rear cover material around the antenna. Two types of new small antennas were designed and evaluated in the hybrid-covered tablet.

This paper reviews the requirement and consideration for standardizing Next Generation Wireless Form Factor (NGWFF) which is new thin and slim wireless form factor. It will replace the existing PCI Express minicard form factor. These requirement and consideration were submitted to the PCI SIG NGFF Working Group and included into the draft specifications of NGFF.

The number of mobile devices such as smart phones, tablet PCs, e-book readers and laptop computers is increasing. It is important for longer battery life and green energy to reduce power consumption when those devices are in running state. What is also important is to reduce standby power, because those devices stay in standby state for a longer period of time than in running state and the power consumption in standby state is far from negligible. This paper discusses the software algorithm on laptop computers which learns how and when a laptop computer is placed into standby state and is resumed by a user, predicts when a user will resume the computer, and automatically changes the depth of the standby state to reduce the power consumption without resume performance degradation. This method is implemented in “TinkPad” that is a brand of laptop computers developed by Lenovo.
