Hybrid Thermally Efficient Core (HyTEC) HyTEC Phase I - P&W SATF Final Report
- Feb 01, 2026
- Jeannette M Hill
This report details work conducted under the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Hybrid Thermally Efficient Core (HyTEC) project intended to accelerate small turbofan engine turbine technologies. Pratt & Whitney (P&W) investigated continued development of two state-of-the-art combustor architectures: advanced Rich-Quench-Lean (RQL) and lean staged (LS) stoichiometry combustors. The primary objective of these investigations was to evaluate the impact of 100% blend synthetic aviation turbine fuel (SATF) on key engine and system performance metrics such as gaseous emissions, non-volatile particulate matter (nvPM) emissions, liner durability, combustor dynamics, and combustor operability, including combustion efficiency, lean blowout (LBO), and ignition characteristics.
