Effective management of waste processing as a tool for improving public services and economy in municipality
Botanical and zoological aspects of the shale post-mining landscape (Jakartovice village, Czech Republic)
The area of the Jakartovice village is well known for its shale roofing tiles since the 18th century. In places where shale was exploited until 1945, abandoned areas after mining works remained. These places due to its specifical environmental conditions have important function in the post-mining landscape. There are very interesting species bond to specific environmental conditions of post - mining landscape, with frequent rare and endangered species. A basic inventory survey of plant species and communities was carried out according to the rules of the Zurich - Monpellier School. Inventory survey of animals consisted of different methods according to individual species.

The prognostic value of coronary artery calcium (CAC) scoring on top of myocardial perfusion imaging with single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) in patients suspected for coronary artery disease is not well established. Four thousand eight hundred ninety-seven symptomatic patients without a history of coronary artery disease referred for SPECT and CAC scoring were included. Major adverse cardiac events (MACEs) were defined as late revascularization (>90 days after scanning), nonfatal myocardial infarction, and all-cause mortality. The frequency of abnormal SPECT increased with higher CAC scores, from 12% in patients with CAC scores of 0 to 19%, 32%, 37%, and 50% among those with CAC scores 1 to 99, 100 to 399, 400 to 999, and ≥1000, respectively (P<0.001). During a median follow-up of 940 days (25th to 75th percentile, 581-1377), a total of 278 MACEs were observed. Overall incidence of MACE was 2.3% per year. A stepwise increase of MACE was present with increasing CAC scores, both in patients with normal SPECT (annual event rate CAC score 0: 0.6%; CAC score ≥1000: 5.5%) and abnormal SPECT (annual event rate CAC score 0: 0.4%; CAC score ≥1000: 7.6%). After multivariate analysis, both SPECT and CAC score were independent predictors of MACE (CAC score ≥1000: hazard ratio, 7.7; P<0.001 and large perfusion defect on SPECT: hazard ratio, 3.7; P<0.001). CAC score and SPECT are independent predictors of MACE in patients suspected for coronary artery disease. Our findings strongly support performing a CAC score in addition to SPECT in symptomatic patients to better define the risk of events during follow-up.

The assessment of running water quality has a long tradition in the Czech Republic, but in the past it focused on the evaluation of organic pollution using the saprobic system. Considering the modern trends of stream ecological status evaluation in water management a new assessment system named PERLA was developed. The system is a complex of biological methods of ecological status assessment of running waters and connected activities in the Czech Republic. It involves 300 reference sites with respective biotic and abiotic data and a prediction model using a newly developed software HOBENT. The model generally follows the published mathematical principles of RIVPACS and represents the site specific and stressor non-specific approaches. The HOBENT software allows the prediction of the target assemblage of benthic macroinvertebrates for any site based on a set of environmental variables (latitude, longitude, distance from source, altitude, slope, catchment area, and stream order) which characterise the site. The predicted assemblage can be compared with the fauna observed at the same site. The comparison makes it possible to evaluate the extent of disturbance, expressed by index B. The model allows to evaluate spring, summer, and autumn seasonal data of the majority of wadable streams in the Czech Republic. The practical application of the PERLA system has started in 2001.Key wordsbenthic macroinvertebratesecological qualitystream assessmenttypologyclassification
