Στο κείμενο που ακολουθεί παρουσιάζουμε τα αποτελέσματα από την ανάλυση των δεδομένων που συγκεντρώσαμε μελετώντας τις σχετικές με τη διερεύνηση απόψεις και πρακτικές ενός μουσειοπαιδαγωγού, ο οποίος υλοποιεί εκπαιδευτικά προγράμματα για σχολικές ομάδες στο ΚΔΕΜΤ ΝΟΗΣΙΣ. Η ανάλυση έγινε με τη βοήθεια ενός θεωρητικού μοντέλου, το οποίο αναπαριστά τη δυναμική των σχέσεων που αναδύονται μεταξύ των διδακτικών-μαθησιακών πρακτικών και των σχετικών με αυτές απόψεων των μουσειοπαιδαγωγών. Στόχο αποτελεί ο εντοπισμός κάποιων μοτίβων στις αλληλουχίες απόψεων και πρακτικών, καθώς και η αξιολόγηση των δυνατοτήτων του θεωρητικού μοντέλου να τις εντοπίσει σε μη τυπικά περιβάλλοντα εκπαίδευσης.

Our main use case features multiple companies that iteratively optimize on the architectural properties of aircraft components in a decentralized manner. In each optimization step of the so-called multi-disciplinary optimization (MDO) process, sensitive data is exchanged between organizations, and we require auditability and traceability of actions taken to assure compliance with signed legal agreements. In this paper, we present a distributed protocol that coordinates authenticated and auditable exchanges of files, leveraging a smart contract. The entire life cycle of a file exchange, including file registration, access request and key distribution, is recorded and traceable via the smart contract. Moreover, when one party raises a dispute, the smart contract can be used to identify the dishonest party without compromising the file's confidentiality. The proposed protocol provides a simple, novel, yet efficient approach to exchange files with support for data access auditability between companies involved in a private consortium with no incentive to share files outside of the protocol. We implemented the protocol in Solidity, deployed it on a private Ethereum blockchain, and validated it within the use case of a decentralized workflow.

In practical situations, complex systems are often composed of subsystems or subproblems with single or multiple objectives. These subsystems focus on different aspects of the overall system, but they often have strong interactions with each other and they are usually not sequentially ordered or obviously decomposable. Thus, the individual solutions of subproblems do not generally induce a solution for the overall system. Here, we strive to identify "re-composition architectures" of such "interwoven" systems. Our intention is to connect the subsystems adequately, analyze the resulting performance, model/solve the overall system, and improve the overall solution instead of just solving each subsystem separately. We review recent developments in this field and discuss modeling and solution paradigms in a general and unified framework using the example of an interwoven system consisting of two interacting subsystems.

This paper demonstrates the application of an integrated rotorcraft multidisciplinary design and optimisation framework, deployed for the purpose of preliminary design and assessment of optimum regenerative powerplant configurations for rotorcraft. The proposed approach comprises a wide-range of individual modelling theories applicable to rotorcraft flight dynamics, gas turbine engine performance and weight estimation as well as a novel physics-based stirred reactor model, for the rapid estimation of various gas turbine gaseous emissions. A Single-Objective Particle Swarm Optimizer is coupled with the aforementioned rotorcraft multidisciplinary design framework. The overall methodology is deployed for the design space exploration and optimisation of a reference multipurpose twin-engine light civil rotorcraft, modelled after the Bo105 helicopter, employing two Rolls Royce Allison 250-C20B turboshaft engines. Through the implementation of single-objective optimization, notionally based optimum regenerative engine design configurations are acquired in terms of engine weight, mission fuel burn and mission gaseous emissions inventory, at constant technology level. The acquired optimum engine configurations are subsequently deployed for the design of conceptual regenerative rotorcraft configurations, targeting improved mission fuel economy, enhanced payload range capability as well as improvements in the rotorcraft overall environmental footprint, while maintaining the required airworthiness requirements. The proposed approach essentially constitutes an enabler in terms of focusing the multidisciplinary design of conceptual rotorcraft powerplants to realistic, three-dimensional operations and towards the realization of their associated engine design trade-offs at mission level.Copyright © 2015 by ASME

A computationally efficient and cost effective simulation framework has been implemented to perform design space exploration and multi-objective optimization for a conceptual regenerative rotorcraft powerplant configuration at mission level. The proposed framework is developed by coupling a comprehensive rotorcraft mission analysis code with a design space exploration and optimization package. The overall approach is deployed to design and optimize the powerplant of a reference twin-engine light rotorcraft, modeled after the Bo105 helicopter, manufactured by Airbus Helicopters. Initially, a sensitivity analysis of the regenerative engine is carried out to quantify the relationship between the engine thermodynamic cycle design parameters, engine weight, and overall mission fuel economy. Second, through the execution of a multi-objective optimization strategy, a Pareto front surface is constructed, quantifying the optimum trade-off between the fuel economy offered by a regenerative engine and its associated weight penalty. The optimum sets of cycle design parameters obtained from the structured Pareto front suggest that the employed heat effectiveness is the key design parameter affecting the engine weight and fuel efficiency. Furthermore, through quantification of the benefits suggested by the acquired Pareto front, it is shown that the fuel economy offered by the simple cycle rotorcraft engine can be substantially improved with the implementation of regeneration technology, without degrading the payload-range capability and airworthiness (one-engine-inoperative) of the rotorcraft.

This paper describes the work done and strong interaction between the Technology Evaluator (TE), Green Rotorcraft (GRC) Integrated Technology Demonstrator (ITD) and Sustainable and Green Engine (SAGE) ITD of the Clean Sky Joint Technology Initiative (JTI). The GRC and SAGE ITDs are responsible for developing new helicopter airframe and engine technologies respectively, whilst the TE has the distinctive role of assessing the environmental impact of these technologies at single flight (mission), airport and Air Transport System levels (ATS). The assessments reported herein have been performed by using a GRC-developed multidisciplinary simulation framework called PhoeniX (Platform Hosting Operational and Environmental Investigations for Rotorcraft) that comprises various computational modules. These modules include a rotorcraft performance code (EUROPA), an engine performance and emissions simulation tool (GSP) and a noise prediction code (HELENA). PhoeniX can predict the performance of a helicopter along a prescribed 4D trajectory offering a complete helicopter mission analysis. In the context of the TE assessments reported herein, two helicopter classes are examined namely a Twin Engine Light (TEL) configuration for Emergency Medical Service (EMS) and Police missions and a Single Engine Light (SEL) configuration for Passenger/Transport missions. The different technologies assessed reflect three simulation points which are the ‘Baseline’ Year 2000 technology, ‘Reference’ Y2020 technology, without Clean Sky benefits, and finally the ‘Conceptual’, reflecting Y2020 technology with Clean Sky benefits. The results of this study illustrate the potential that incorporated technologies possess in terms of improving performance and gas emission metrics such as fuel burn, CO2, NOx as well as the noise footprint on the ground.

Abstract The recent years have seen a significant increase in ontology research in the field of engineering due to the needs of domain knowledge capturing, reusing and sharing between software agents and/or engineers.The increasingly available enhancements of computing resources have considerably increased the role of Computer-aided engineering applications in the product development process by saving time and costs. In this context a key role is played by the Process Integration and Design Optimization tools that facilitate and automate the integration and interoperability of all different Enterprise Applications involved in the simulation of engineering tasks. However, all these tools inherit a severe limitation about the semantic meaning of the tools they automate.This paper proposes a platform independent Process Integration and Design Optimization (PIDO) ontology that aims at providing an extensive mapping of the PIDO domain, with a special attention to its adoption in software applications. A comparison with existing similar ontologies and an explanation of the reasons that lay behind the classes and relations introduced is provided. <div class="htmlview paragraph">Product designers worldwide are confronted with highly competitive though conflicting demands to deliver more complex products with increased quality in ever shorter development cycles. Optimizing design performance with purely test-based approaches is no longer an option and numerical simulation methods are widely used to model, assess and improve the product design based on virtual prototypes. However, variability in design parameters and in operating conditions leads to scatter in actual performances and must be incorporated in the simulation process to guarantee the robustness of the design.</div> <div class="htmlview paragraph">This paper presents the application of state-of-the-art robust design techniques to a vehicle suspension system. A multibody model of a vehicle with a virtual test ground has been created to predict the durability response of three main components of the suspension system. These components have been made flexible to assess the effect of variability in geometrical and material characteristics on the robustness of the durability performance. The results of the robustness assessment have been used to improve the durability performance of the suspension and reduce the scattering in the output quantities of interest.</div> <div class="htmlview paragraph">With the robust design methodology, engineers can obtain a better understanding of the effect of variability sources by including noise, signal and control factors directly into the design loop. Based on the analysis results, the robustness of the design can be assessed and improved if needed.</div>
