“I always get Panadol...there’s no hope here.” Healthcare services accessibility to incarcerated older adults.
Abstract The increasing number of Incarcerated older adults in Ghana is becoming a national issue for both policymakers and prison administrators. Currently, there are about 15,198 people incarcerated in various places in Ghana. These numbers result in having too many congestions and all these affect the quality of healthcare in prisons. The study sought to assess the quality of health care services for older adults in prisons in Ghana This study employed a qualitative approach involving an explorative descriptive design A focus group discussion was conducted among purposively selected older incarcerated adults. To be included, a participant must have been at least 50 years old and in prison for at least six months. A total of 28 older adults, comprising 18 males and 10 females were selected for participation in the study. The findings showed health care services accessibility in prison facilities remains a significant issue. Participants acknowledged that healthcare workers in prisons have limited knowledge and practice skills to effectively address their healthcare needs. They also pointed to the lack of medical equipment in prisons and stigma as additional factors that adversely affect their healthcare experiences in prisons. Participants generally noted that the quality of health services in prisons was substandard compared to that provided to the general public. The study adds to the literature on older incarcerated adults in Africa and how their healthcare accessibility can be improved. The study underscores the need for policy changes and practices that could enhance the healthcare experiences of older adults in prisons.

Efficient and Sustainable Biohydrogen Production In their Research Article (DOI: 10.1002/adma.202508613), Dake Xu, Yongqiang Fan, and co-authors report a hybrid system integrating self-assembling electroactive nanobiocatalysts with Clostridium pasteurianum for efficient, sustainable biohydrogen production. The multifunctional nanobiocatalysts enhance electron transfer within the microbial metabolism network, achieving a ≈103% increase in production rate and stable output for 30 days, offering a universal strategy for high-performance bioenergy hybrid systems.
Read moreGenesis and Timing of Low-Sulphide Gold–Quartz Mineralization of the Upryamoye Ore Field, Western Chukotka
The Upryamoye ore field is located in the Chukotka metallogenic belt in Northeast Russia. The orebodies are hosted within Late Jurassic–Early Cretaceous greenschist-facies metamorphosed rocks and structurally controlled by NW-trending fold-and-thrust dislocations. Based on geological exploration, petrographic, mineralogical, and geochronological studies, new data on the geological structure and composition of gold–quartz mineralization of the Upryamoye ore field are presented. Optical and scanning microscopy were used to study the lithological features of the host rocks and determine the ore textures and the morphology and internal structure of native gold, auriferous pyrite, and arsenopyrite. Qualitative and quantitative characterization of the ore minerals was carried out using SEM-EDS and EPMA. To determine the age of the gold mineralization, Re-Os dating of arsenopyrite and U-Th/He dating of pyrite were performed. The results show that the orebodies comprise carbonate–quartz and sulphide–carbonate–quartz saddle reef veins in both the fold hinge and limbs, as well as mineralized shatter zones and mylonite zones that trace thrust faults. The main ore minerals are arsenopyrite and pyrite, associated with minor amounts of galena, sphalerite, chalcopyrite, tetrahedrite, and bournonite. Native gold is distributed extremely unevenly, forming thin and finely dispersed inclusions in pyrite and arsenopyrite. U-Th/He isotopic analyses of auriferous pyrites suggest that gold mineralization in the Upryamoye ore field occurred at 123 ± 4 Ma. The data obtained by Re–Os dating of auriferous arsenopyrite are inconsistent with direct geological observations but indicate that Os in the arsenopyrite was derived from the crustal source. According to a number of characteristic features of mineralization, the Upryamoye ore field is attributed to a metamorphic genetic type of orogenic low-sulphide gold–quartz deposits. The ore-forming process was long and multi-stage, occurring during the final collisional phase and the beginning of the extensional phase of the Chukotka orogen.
Read moreEntrepreneurial orientation and supply chain resilience: the mediating role of supply chain analytics
Purpose This study aims to explain how entrepreneurially oriented companies can be better at developing supply chain resilience (SCR). This study also explores how entrepreneurial orientation (EO), as a behavioral capability, contributes to the development of SCR through the mediating role of supply chain analytics (SCA). Adopting an analytics lens, this study investigates how EO stimulates the use of SCA to enhance SCR. Design/methodology/approach Survey data from multiple respondents from 243 manufacturing companies in Pakistan was collected. Hypothesis testing was conducted using structural equation modeling, outlining direct and mediational relationships among EO, SCA and SCR. Findings EO drives all dimensions of SCA, i.e. plan, source, make and deliver analytics, but only plan, source and deliver analytics enhance SCR. Also, plan, source and deliver analytics mediate the relationship between EO and SCR. Research limitations/implications This study advances theoretical understanding of how behavioral and technological capabilities interact to foster resilience. Furthermore, by disaggregating SCA into plan, source, make and deliver analytics, the study highlights the differentiated roles of analytics functions, offering new directions for theory-building around capability bundles and contingency effects in supply chain contexts. Originality/value Previous studies assume the relationship between EO and supply chain performance as a black box without highlighting the underlying mechanisms. This study pioneers in integrating EO, SCA and SCR in a unified framework, positioning behavioral and technological capabilities as enablers of resilience.

Background Indigenous populations in the United States experience disproportionate substance use and opioid overdose burdens. Yet, little is known about naloxone distribution in Indigenous communities on Tribal reservation lands. Methods We used survey data from 209 people who use drugs (PWUD), collected on the reservation lands of a southern plains Tribal Nation to understand the prevalence of overdose, naloxone receipt, and interest in participating in secondary naloxone distribution. We assessed bivariate associations between each outcome of interest and sociodemographics, drug use, witnessing overdoses, and drug use stigma. Results The average age of participants was 42, 57% were men, 54% identified as Indigenous, and 27% were currently experiencing homelessness. One third had witnessed a non-fatal overdose in the past 6 months and 15% had witnessed a fatal overdose. 19% had experienced an overdose in the past 6 months. Witnessing both fatal and non-fatal overdoses and high drug use stigma scores were associated with increased prevalence of overdose. One quarter had received naloxone in the past 6 months. Receiving naloxone was more common among those who witnessed fatal and non-fatal overdoses and who had experienced overdoses themselves. The majority (61%) of participants were willing to distribute naloxone to others. Willingness to distribute naloxone was more common among participants who had witnessed non-fatal overdoses and who had higher drug use stigma scores. Conclusions There is a pressing need to enhance naloxone coverage for PWUD in Indigenous communities. Secondary naloxone distribution may be a promising strategy to address this need.
Read moreExtremum Seeking-Based Model Predictive Control for Path Tracking of Autonomous Vehicles
This paper proposes an Extremum Seeking-Based Model Predictive Control (ES-MPC) algorithm to address the limitation of fixed parameters in traditional Model Predictive Control (MPC) for vehicle path tracking. MPC has been widely applied in trajectory tracking due to its ability to handle system constraints and predict future behavior. However, the use of fixed controller parameters in conventional MPC limits its adaptability and may lead to degraded performance or instability in dynamic driving environments. Extremum Seeking (ES) is a real-time optimization technique capable of autonomously tuning system parameters to maximize performance under changing conditions. By integrating ES algorithm with MPC, the proposed ES-MPC algorithm enables online adaptation of controller parameters, thereby improving the control system's responsiveness and robustness, especially on curved roads and paths with varying curvature. Experimental results demonstrate that the ES-MPC controller achieves superior tracking accuracy and stability compared to traditional PID and fixed-parameter MPC approaches.
