Abstract The American Meteorological Society’s Committee on Ecological Forecasting, established in 2014, addresses the growing necessity for interdisciplinary collaboration between ecological and physical sciences to enhance forecasting capabilities amid escalating environmental challenges. Weather and climate events (e.g., hurricanes, floods, wildfires) produce significant ecological disturbances that disrupt ecosystems, ultimately impacting human populations and other living organisms. This article expands upon the Statement on The Future of Ecological Forecasting adopted by the American Meteorological Society (AMS) in January 2024 by providing essential context, references, and motivation. It underscores the integral relationship between human well-being and ecosystem services, which rely on stable ecological functions. By elucidating the potential of ecological forecasts (“ecoforecasts”) to predict significant changes in ecosystems that affect human populations, economies, and health, this article advocates for a coordinated approach among researchers, policymakers, and practitioners. Enhanced operational systems for ecological forecasting promise increased lead times and analytics to facilitate proactive planning and funding for shared use and mitigation efforts. The transdisciplinary nature of ecological forecasting aims to unify insights across various scientific domains, ultimately leading to improved decision-making processes that support sustainable adaptation to rapid environmental change. Significance Statement The AMS Statement on The Future of Ecological Forecasting (2024) marks a key milestone in linking meteorological and ecological forecasting, offering a framework for interdisciplinary collaboration among AMS, professional societies, agencies, stakeholders, and policy groups. This paper aims to preserve the Statement as a lasting reference, augment it with recent scientific and technical developments, and promote its use as a widely accessible planning tool to reinforce strategic advancements in ecological forecasting.

Accurate and reliable angle and rotational speed measurement is crucial in various industrial and scientific applications. This paper develops a cost-effective, real-time system for angle and rotational speed measurement Using magnetic sensors. The setup comprises a magnetic sensor arranged around a turntable with a DC motor-driven magnet. Sensor signals are amplified and converted to digital via the ADC of an STM controller, with a high-precision timer recording relevant signal intervals. Processed data are framed per the USART protocol for transmission to a host computer. At the software layer, callback functions identify frame headers/tails for data extraction, filter signals via a low-pass filter to reduce noise, and enable real-time angular position display. System accuracy is validated through mathematical fitting to model and calibrate the sensor output-physical angle relationship, ensuring high precision and reliability with a measurement error as low as 0.6 °.

The root lesion nematode (Pratylenchus brachyurus) is a major constraint in soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merr.) production in Brazil’s Midwest, where it causes significant yield losses. Weed management is also challenging, often requiring repeated herbicide applications. This study was developed in order to evaluate the effects of herbicides on P. brachyurus populations in conventional and transgenic soybean cultivars. Two experiments were carried out under naturally infested field conditions and in a greenhouse using a randomized block design. Treatments included four weed control methods (manual weeding, lactofen, chlorimuron-ethyl, and haloxyfop) applied to two conventional cultivars (BRSGO Iara and M-Soy 8001), plus two additional treatments on the transgenic cultivar BRS Valiosa RR (manual weeding and glyphosate). In the field, nematode density and reproduction factor were assessed at 45 and 90 days after emergence, along with root mass, leaf area, and pod biomass. Chlorimuron-ethyl increased nematode populations in both conventional cultivars, while lactofen reduced them in M-Soy 8001. Haloxyfop lowered the reproduction factor, and both chlorimuron and lactofen negatively affected plant growth. In the greenhouse, evaluations at 30 and 60 days after inoculation included nematode density and root and shoot biomass. At 30 DAI, chlorimuron increased nematode density in M-Soy 8001, while lactofen reduced it; all herbicides reduced shoot biomass. At 60 DAI, only glyphosate reduced shoot biomass in the transgenic cultivar. Overall, specific herbicides affected both nematode dynamics and plant development, with responses varying by cultivar and environment.

Corporate Crime is a relatively new term associated with Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). The instant study tries to explain corporate crimes in nexus to CSR. It debates what international legal framework prohibits such crimes and how corporations commit violations of such international standards, any deviation from the standard may result in serious damage to society thus affect millions of lives e.g., the growing trend of child labor under hazardous conditions by a corporation. Through increased monitoring on child labor, innocent children can be saved from the havoc of child labor even reaching the level of slavery in some regions. This would help to reduce the number of children having hazardous workplace situation being unfairly compensated for their work.
