The convergence of artificial intelligence workloads with site reliability engineering principles necessitates a fundamental transformation in how organizations conceptualize and implement production machine learning systems. This framework addresses the unique challenges emerging when traditional SRE practices encounter the probabilistic nature of ML systems, where failures manifest not as binary outages but as gradual performance degradation across multiple dimensions. The identification of critical anti-patterns reveals systematic vulnerabilities in production AI environments, including the pervasive tendency to prioritize deployment velocity over reliability, sophisticated monitoring systems that generate overwhelming noise without meaningful signal, and infrastructure-centric observability that tracks traditional metrics while missing model-specific degradation patterns. Through the establishment of dual-track error budgets, comprehensive Service Level Indicator frameworks bifurcated between infrastructure and model dimensions, and the emergence of Data SRE as a specialized discipline bridging statistical expertise with operational excellence, organizations can create sustainable AI operations. The framework emphasizes that success in production AI environments depends fundamentally on disciplined avoidance of well-documented anti-patterns through proactive reliability engineering, automated validation pipelines, and explainable AI integration for systematic debugging, transforming reactive incident management into predictive operational excellence.

In recent years, organizations have faced increasing pressure to enhance tax compliance accuracy while managing complex, multi-jurisdictional regulations and streamlining financial operations. Manual processes and fragmented systems often lead to errors, audit risks, and delayed closings. This study aims to explore the end-to-end integration of Vertex tax automation with Oracle Cloud ERP, demonstrating how a structured approach—from requirement gathering to post-implementation support—can transform tax compliance into a seamless, reliable, and scalable process. A case study was conducted across the full lifecycle of integration, including stakeholder engagement, system design, API interfacing, testing, and support protocols, with a focus on achieving smooth month-end and quarter-end closings. The results show that a well-orchestrated Vertex–Oracle Cloud integration significantly reduces manual intervention, improves tax calculation accuracy, enhances audit readiness, and enables faster financial closings with minimal disruption. These findings suggest that strategic tax automation, when implemented holistically and supported proactively, offers a resilient foundation for sustainable compliance, operational efficiency, and digital transformation in enterprise finance.

Are we now entering the era of a new type of economy, with new rules? What we perceive is more than just an addition to today’s economics. By removing the effects of distance, and giving more equal access across nations and classes, networks will effectively reengineer our basic economic equations. Electronic networks can provide access to skills, work and commerce at much lower cost, via electronic markets in jobs, products, services and education. At the same time, they introduce new economic behaviour, as a large enough quantitative change becomes a qualitative change. Electronics and optics enable the networking of human capital, expanding its application and accelerating its enrichment via education. So knowledge‐based operations may slowly replace traditional capital‐based assets. Consequently, the conventional process for the creation of wealth with its prerequisites for capital investment is revised:economic value in traditional fixed assets is replaced by “electronic assets”. At the same time, the network effect pushes the market mechanism to its limits, through a step‐change in breadth of access, reduced costs of entry and pace of trading. National differences and national markets, all the trappings and devices of commercial locality, are challenged. In this first of two articles, the initial conditions and the evidence for change are examined and the emergence of a new form of economy, or “tele‐economy”, is reviewed. Following from this, a view of the form of capitalism driving the economic environment – “electronic capitalism” – is put forward. The second article, to be published in a forthcoming issue of foresight, examines the consequences and conclusions on assets, wealth accumulation, national players and the benefits and dangers of a tele‐economy.

ASHRIDGE Management College at Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire, stands on a site on which Richard, Earl of Cornwall, founded a monastery in 1276. Following the dissolution of the monasteries, Henry VIII appropriated it as a royal residence which later became the home of the Dukes of Bridgwater. The present building was erected between 1808 and 1814 and remained a private residence until 1927. Since 1958 Ashridge has been an independent management development centre which is fully residential and financed almost exclusively from course fees.
