Adapting the problem-oriented medical record to the psychiatric hospital
An investigation of Leonhard's classification of chronic schizophrenia.
Following Leonhard's classification of chronic schizophrenia, 20 Systematic and 20 Non-systematic schizophrenics were selected. The two groups were matched for age and general intellectual level. Four tests of retardation and four tests of thought disorder were administered to all 40 patients. No significant differences were found between the Systematic and Non-systematic schizophrenic patients. This study does not provide evidence that there is any significant difference between the two major groups as proposed by Leonhard. Further, we failed to confirm the hypothesis forwarded by Fish that thought disorder is associated with Non-systematic schizophrenics, and retardation with systematic schizophrenics.
