Abstract Zero‐sum thinking – the belief that one party's gain necessitates another's loss – remains a pervasive cognitive bias with profound implications for workplace dynamics. Understanding its role in driving counterproductive work behavior (CWB) is critical for fostering healthier organizational cultures and for mitigating interpersonal conflicts. We draw on social exchange theory and equity theory to elucidate how zero‐sum beliefs (ZSBs) shape employees' interpretations of workplace interactions, particularly in terms of perceived fairness and reciprocity. Based on two correlational studies ( n = 451; n = 438) and an experimental study ( n = 596) examining both real‐life behaviors and behavioral intentions in hypothetical scenarios, we found that ZSBs motivate CWB. This relationship is mediated – at least partially – by feelings of exploitation: the more employees view success in the workplace as zero‐sum, the more they feel exploited by coworkers, which in turn increases their likelihood of engaging in harmful and retaliatory actions. We conclude by highlighting zero‐sum beliefs as an important psychological mechanism shaping workplace emotions and counterproductive behavior, and by emphasizing that managers can mitigate these effects through fostering perceptions of mutual gains.

This article introduces the concept of temporal logic to theorize how users engage with time as part of their media practices. Analyzing 40 cases of mourning and memorialization practices across Facebook’s Profiles, Groups, and Pages, the study identifies three core components: a twofold engagement with time (calendric and discursive), temporal introspection, and temporal convergence. The calendric use of time involves specific dates that serve as temporal triggers for posting, while the discursive use describes how users embed time into their posts—through rich and repeated time expressions, poetic narration, and so on. Time becomes a communicative resource, not merely a contextual background but an active rhetorical and affective tool. Temporal introspection captures how social media platforms invite users to articulate their inner experience of time, and temporal convergence reveals how multiple temporal layers—personal and collective, offline and online—converge on a single platform, giving rise to new rituals and expressions.

This study examines how wartime military service influences entrepreneurial identity development and intentions. Drawing on a sample of 320 Israelis, including 77 reservists activated during a conflict, the research highlights how high-risk combat environments may foster an entrepreneurial identity. This identity is linked to a stronger appetite for risk-taking and entrepreneurial intentions. The study extends entrepreneurial identity theory by applying it to the extreme context of wartime military service. It demonstrates that intense, high-stress environments could meaningfully contribute to shaping entrepreneurial traits. These findings provide new insights into the dynamic formation of entrepreneurial identity under extreme conditions.

ABSTRACTThis study explores the long‐term consumer responses following exposure to offensive‐discriminatory advertising (ad) among members of discriminated groups. It aims to understand the dynamic consumer effect of such ads, particularly for those who feel their group is highly discriminated against and who wish to disidentify from their group. Three longitudinal experiments were conducted: race‐offensive (n = 347) and two gender‐offensive studies (n = 221, and n = 72). Offensive‐discriminatory and non‐offensive‐discriminatory ads were presented to women and Black participants, and consumer responses were measured at two‐time points. Individuals feeling highly discriminated against who tended to distance themselves from their group showed more compensatory brand responses (brand purchase intentions, actual brand choice, and Frontal Alpha Asymmetry score as a measure of approach avoidance tendency) over time than those feeling less group discrimination. This study adds to the literature by showing the temporal dynamics of disidentification triggered in responses to offensive‐discriminatory ads. It highlights the role of time in consumer behavior and quantifies long‐term responses among different segments. It also extends the disidentification theory from workplace settings to ad contexts. These studies reveal the long‐term effects of offensive‐discriminatory ads on specific consumer segments and the complex dynamics between consumers, brands, and social identities. It emphasizes the need for ethical regulation of such ads, which provoke compensatory responses from stigmatized groups.

BackgroundMetabolic Bariatric Surgery (MBS) has gained significant popularity over the past decade. Legally and ethically, physicians should obtain the patient’s voluntary and informed consent before proceeding with the surgery. However, the decision to undergo MBS is often influenced by external factors, prompting questions about their impact on the patient’s ability to choose voluntarily. In addressing this issue, the study focuses on two key questions: first, which factors influence MBS candidates during the decision-making process, and second, whether these influences undermine the candidates' ability to make decisions voluntarily, according to theories of autonomy.MethodsThe study employed a qualitative methodology, conducting 21 in-depth semi-structured interviews with adults who had undergone bariatric surgery. The conclusions were drawn from an inductive analysis of the interview data conducted using a grounded theory approach, and by applying theories of autonomy to the empirical findings.ResultsOur study indicates that interviewees were exposed to different external influences, which had diverse effects on the interviewees' decision to undergo MBS.Category 1 influences included intentional attempts to induce people, through arguments and reason, to accept the attitudes advocated by the persuader in support of the surgery. Applying theoretical accounts of autonomy to these influences suggests that they did not compromise the interviewees’ autonomy.Category 2 influences included threats made by a physician or a family member. These influences were found to undermine autonomy.Category 3 influences included emotional manipulation, informational manipulation, and the construction of medical and social norms. Manipulations and norms were experienced differently by different interviewees, and their impact on autonomy varies depending on the theoretical framework applied.ConclusionsAcknowledging that the influences exerted on MBS candidates may undermine their ability to make autonomous decisions regarding surgery, we suggest reformulating the duties that apply to medical practitioners with respect to informed consent to MBS.Medical practitioners who discuss the option of MBS with candidates should be aware of the various factors that influence this choice, and actively promote the candidates’ ability to make autonomous decisions.

This research seeks to clarify the uncertainty in crowdfunding literature regarding the relationship between the number of updates and campaign success. By integrating signal theory and the notion of information overload, this study posits a curved, inverted U-shaped relationship between the number of updates and campaign success. Empirical evidence to support this hypothesis is drawn from an analysis of 2852 projects sourced from a reward-based crowdfunding platform. The aim of this inquiry is to provide insights into the intricate dynamics that influence how the number of updates impacts the results of crowdfunding campaigns.
