Do Developers Use Static Application Security Testing (SAST) Tools Straight Out of the Box? A large-scale Empirical Study
Static application Security Testing (SAST) tools are an established means of detecting vulnerabilities early in development. Previous studies have reported low detection rates from SAST tools and recommend either combining SAST tools or configuring rule sets to detect more vulnerabilities. However, while previous work suggests that developers rarely combine or configure any of the Automatic Static Analysis Tools (ASATs) they use, it is currently unclear whether SAST tools are used directly “out of the box”. To understand how developers use SAST tools, we performed a large-scale survey involving 1,263 developers. We pre-screened developers to establish their SAST use and found that only 20% (204/1,003) used SAST tools. Of those developers who did use SAST tools, we found a large number did not use multiple tools (59%), did not configure tools (54%) or did neither (40%). Our results suggest that more work is needed to help developers combine and configure tools, since doing so is likely to detect significantly more vulnerabilities.
Read moreForced internal migration in the Kharkiv region: structural-dynamic and regional features
The article deals with the structural-dynamic and regional analysis of the IDPs of the Kharkiv region. It was determined that in terms of the number of IDPs, the proportion of IDPs in the all-Ukrainian value and the number of IDPs per 1000 local residents, Kharkiv region ranks 4th in Ukraine. Among the possible factors that influenced and influence the choice of the migrants of the Kharkiv region as a region for their residence are the following: territorial proximity to temporarily uncontrolled districts of Donetsk and Luhansk regions; similar to Donbass industrial specialization, which expands the employment opportunities of forced migrants; high level of urbanization; sociocultural and political characteristics of the local population; relatively high level of support for IDPs by regional authorities and local governments, as well as some others. It is reasonable that the official number of IDPs in the region is somewhat exaggerated due to the so-called. "Pension tourism" and will be real only after the cancellation of the peg payment of pensions to the status of IDPs. It was noted that since February 2016 there has been a tendency to reduce the number of IDPs in the region, which is caused by the depopulation of the population; the return of forced migrants to temporarily uncontrolled areas of Donbass and the Autonomous Republic of Crimea; the cancellation of IDP certificates as a result of the work of the departments of social protection of the population to streamline the registration of IDPs; migration abroad; the integration of the most successful immigrants into local communities; unwillingness to confirm the status of IDPs due to bureaucratic barriers and periodic inspections and some other reasons. It was revealed that in the age structure of IDPs in the region, pensioners dominate, in the sex – women, and in the educational structure – people with higher education.

Abstract OTFTs are fundamentally the most flexible transistor technology available. Combined with recent improvements in organic materials, this offers a route to truly flexible AMOLED displays, which will transform new markets such as wearables. Plastic Logic has developed a flexible OTFT AMOLED display using low temperature processes compatible with mass manufacturing.

Fructose, Obesity, and Related Epidemiology
Fructose occurs in fruits, vegetable, and sweetened drinks alongside glucose as free sugars or bound in sucrose, but may also be bought in a pure form. A link between sugar-sweetened drinks (SSD) and body mass index (BMI, kg/m2) is inferred from systematic reviews of both prospective cohort studies (PCSs) and randomized, controlled trials (RCTs) (Malik et al., 2006; Wolf and Dansinger, 2008). The link is seemingly strong because such studies rank highly among types of studies according to evidence-based principles on causality. On the other hand, the study results are heterogeneous, and more objective meta-analysis shows SSDs to have a “small” effect on BMI (Forshee et al., 2008); therefore, a focus on fructose and SSD may then serve only to divert attention from major causes of obesity (Storey, 2008). A number of complications and false claims arise when interpreting epidemiological and interventional studies on fructose or SSDs. The first is a notion that high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS) differs from suc...

Abstract Plastic Logic has launched an e‐reader designed with the business traveler in mind. This product, known as the QUEproReader, has a flexible e‐paper active matrix display built using organic semiconductors. The device is constructed so as to exploit the plastic display properties and optimize thickness, ruggedness and weight. This is the 1 st commercially available e‐reader product to use a flexible plastic display.

Here, we describe the identification of a clinical candidate via structure-based optimization of a ligand efficient pyrazole-benzimidazole fragment. Aurora kinases play a key role in the regulation of mitosis and in recent years have become attractive targets for the treatment of cancer. X-ray crystallographic structures were generated using a novel soakable form of Aurora A and were used to drive the optimization toward potent (IC(50) approximately 3 nM) dual Aurora A/Aurora B inhibitors. These compounds inhibited growth and survival of HCT116 cells and produced the polyploid cellular phenotype typically associated with Aurora B kinase inhibition. Optimization of cellular activity and physicochemical properties ultimately led to the identification of compound 16 (AT9283). In addition to Aurora A and Aurora B, compound 16 was also found to inhibit a number of other kinases including JAK2 and Abl (T315I). This compound demonstrated in vivo efficacy in mouse xenograft models and is currently under evaluation in phase I clinical trials.
