In the landscape of Tamil literature, eyes are constructed not merely as visual sensory organs but as the fountainhead of human emotions, symbols of virtue (Aram), and tools of political strategy. Specifically, in the universal code of ethics, the Thirukkural, Thiruvalluvar has utilized the language of the eyes with great subtlety. This article analyzes how eyes are handled both symbolically and through physical manifestations (Meippattiyal) in the sections of 'Kannottam' (Benignity), 'Ottradal' (Espionage), and 'Kamathuppal' (The Canto of Love) within the Thirukkural. Against the backdrop of Sangam literature and with the aid of Tholkappiyar's theories on Meippattiyal, this research extensively reveals the nine emotions (Navarasas) expressed through the eyes and the internal (Akam) and external (Puram) life values they signify. Furthermore, the article explores scientific perspectives on eyes in Siddha medicine and the contemporary vital virtue of eye donation, connecting them with the ethical framework of Valluvar.

The Internet of Things (IoT) is a rapidly evolving and user-friendly technology that connects everything and enables effective communication between linked things. In hospitals and other healthcare centers, healthcare monitoring systems have exploded in popularity over the last decade, and wireless healthcare monitoring devices using diverse technologies have a huge interest in several countries worldwide. The existing studies in healthcare IoT met a few shortcomings in terms of privacy, security, higher data dimensionality, higher cost, larger execution time, and so on. To tackle these issues, we proposed a novel IoT-enabled and secured healthcare monitoring framework (IoT-SHMF) for heart disease prediction. The data are taken from the Cleveland Heart Disease database. First, authentication is performed through registration, login, and patient data verification. The Matrix-based RSA encryption technology and a blockchain-based data storage concept provide safe data transmission and authorization. Subsequently, the secured data is downloaded by the hospital management (HM) system. The HM system scrutinizes the decrypted data. Finally, the Deep Convolutional Neural Network-based Archimedes Optimization (DCNN-AO) algorithm classifies the normal and abnormal classes of heart disease. The implementation work of the proposed model is simulated using JAVA software with different performance measures. Various performance metrics with state-of-art methods validate the effectiveness of the proposed model. The proposed IoT-based system ensures better security by about 98%. The decryption time of our proposed approach, when the sensor nodes are equal to 25, is 37 seconds.

SummaryManual investigation of blood cell count is sometimes erroneous due to interoperability error, fatigue error, requiring expert skill and time consuming too. In particular, investigation of white blood cell (WBC) gains importance in identifying diseases like leukemia, leukopenia, etc. WBC does not possess regular structure because they move throughout the blood stream and hence analyzing WBC and its types for structure and shape is quite challenging. To aid in hematology, this work provides classification of WBC classification based on modified U‐Net and support vector machines (SVM). A modified U‐Net architecture is developed to segment WBC followed by feature extraction and classification by radial basis function‐support vector machine (RBF‐SVM). Experiments indicated that the modified U Net segmentation can detect the WBC nucleus with a dice similarity coefficient of 0.972. The proposed U‐Net‐SVM can recognize WBCs in Raabin‐WBC, LISC, and BCCD datasets with an accuracy of 99.45%, 98.62%, and 98.81%, respectively. Further investigation on leukemia dataset, ALL‐IDB2, revealed an accuracy of 99.42% with 100% sensitivity and specificity. The proposed model can be used to investigate WBCs and hence provide a great support to the hematologists in analyzing the blood smear for various disease identifications.

Abstract In My Fair Lady, Henry Higgins asks a provocative question: “Why can’t the English teach their children how to speak?” Since Higgins is a literary character, we might assume that both he and Shaw held the same disparaging opinion of the uneducated Eliza Doolittle. But a careful reading of Pygmalion suggests that Shaw did not share Higgins’s dismissive attitude toward “bad” English and the people who speak it. We can speculate that writing Pygmalion—which critics have long recognized as a play about language—caused Shaw to start questioning some widespread assumptions about the intersection between English grammar and social class. Keywords My Fair Lady GrammarSocial class

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to provide a conceptual model for the transformation of big data sets into actionable knowledge. The model introduces a framework for converting data to actionable knowledge and mitigating potential risk to the organization. A case utilizing a dashboard provides a practical application for analysis of big data.Design/methodology/approachThe model can be used both by scholars and practitioners in business process management. This paper builds and extends theories in the discipline, specifically related to taking action using big data analytics with tools such as dashboards.FindingsThe authors’ model made use of industry experience and network resources to gain valuable insights into effective business process management related to big data analytics. Cases have been provided to highlight the use of dashboards as a visual tool within the conceptual framework.Practical implicationsThe literature review cites articles that have used big data analytics in practice. The transitions required to reach the actionable knowledge state and dashboard visualization tools can all be deployed by practitioners. A specific case example from ESP International is provided to illustrate the applicability of the model.Social implicationsInformation assurance, security, and the risk of large-scale data breaches are a contemporary problem in society today. These topics have been considered and addressed within the model framework.Originality/valueThe paper presents a unique and novel approach for parsing data into actionable knowledge items, identification of viruses, an application of visual dashboards for identification of problems, and a formal discussion of risk inherent with big data.

Using a case study methodology, this paper assesses the unique tactical challenges faced by law enforcement officers responding to the October 1, 2017, Las Vegas active shooter incident. The authors assessed the tactical strengths of the assailant, Stephen Paddock, and challenges faced by law enforcement personnel. The authors present several proposed applications of unmanned aircraft systems that could have potentially mitigated the active shooter’s tactical advantages.
