Thematic chapters focus on key topics such as destination marketing, education, sustainability, ethics, and technology for business events. This new third edition has been extensively revised and updated to reflect recent developments in business events, including: A new chapter focusing on business events in times of crisis, exploring the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic on this sector New ‘It’s my job’ testimonials offering practical insights from young people currently employed in business events New ‘Discussion points’ at the end of each chapter, offering topics for in-class discussions and coursework New international case studies illustrating exemplary examples of business events from throughout the world, including emerging destinations such as China, South America, and the Middle East Written in an accessible yet analytical manner, Business Events is essential reading for all students of events, tourism, and hospitality management. It is also an indispensable resource for anyone entering employment in the business events sector for the first time.

In Europe, the 2025/26 seasonal influenza epidemic started in October 2025. Co-circulation of A(H3N2) and A(H1N1)pdm09 was observed in several countries including France. We estimated early vaccine effectiveness (VE) against influenza virus in French outpatients (5,451 positives/18,816 negatives). A significant VE across all age groups was measured: 28% (95% CI: 17–37) for those aged ≥ 65 years, 45% (95% CI: 36–53) for 18–64-year-olds and 57% (95% CIs: 29–74) for 0–17-year-olds. Reinforcing vaccination uptake is warranted.

The survival of dogs with pheochromocytoma (PCC) treated with adrenoreceptor antagonists has not been described or compared to surgically managed cases. The objective of this study is to evaluate the survival of medically and surgically managed dogs with PCC and investigate factors associated with survival. Two hundred fifty-five dogs with PCC, treated with alpha-adrenoreceptor antagonists (AA) without adrenalectomy (Group 1, n = 75), adrenalectomy +/- AA (Group 2, n = 128), or neither treatment (Group 3, n = 52). Retrospective, multicenter review of medical records. Median overall survival time (OST) for Groups 1 and 2 combined was calculated using Kaplan-Meier estimates, and then compared between Group 1 and Group 2 using Log-Rank testing. Cox proportional hazard analysis identified factors associated with survival in Groups 1 and 2 individually and combined. Median OST for all cases was 854 (95% CI: 572-1136) days. Median OST was lower in Group 1 (247 days, 95% CI: 76-418 days) than in Group 2 (927 days, 95% CI: 587-1267 days; p < 0.001). In Group 2, 88/92 dogs (97.8%) that received presurgical AA treatment survived to discharge compared to 23/27 (85.2%) that did not receive AA pretreatment (p = 0.03). Lack of clinical signs at presentation was associated with increased survival in both groups combined (HR 0.5; 95% CI 0.3-0.9; p = 0.02) and in Group 2 alone (HR 0.3; 95% CI 0.1-0.7; p = 0.01). Dogs with PCC treated with adrenalectomy have longer survival compared to those managed with AA without adrenalectomy.

Abstract Serious games are a method that can be used to reach the public on complex topics related to the ocean. Although games used for learning generally, and ocean literacy specifically, have developed gradually since the 1970s, it was not until the popularization of digital games, around the turn of the millennium, that serious games rose to prominence in academia. Since then, vast amounts of serious games research have been published each year – chiefly on digital games, but also increasingly on hybrid and analogue games. In this article, we present results from a series of serious games that were played in three geographical regions in Norway with future-generation stakeholders and tie this to ocean literacy. We report on the potential benefits of serious games for learning and motivation based on these results. The games were played within the context of the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science, the sustainable development goals and multilevel governance, with a special focus on microplastic pollution and jellyfish blooms. We argue that using serious games can be beneficial not just for outreach but also as a tool for unintrusive collection of qualitative data in the form of narratives from transcriptions post-gaming session and contribute to ocean literacy.

The ultrasound-guided cervical plexus plane (US-CPP) block has proven effective in humans; yet its application in dogs remains unexplored. This study aimed to describe a novel US-CPP approach in canines. A local sonoanatomy was mapped, the injection technique was tested, and a gross anatomical dissection (GAD) was performed on one cadaver. The bilateral injectate spread and nerve staining were then evaluated via a CT scan and GAD in the six cadavers. The transducer was aligned parallel to the cervical spine, caudal to the atlas. After identifying the cleidocervical and omotransversarius muscles and the C2-C3 interfascial plane, a spinal needle was inserted in-plane, and 0.15 mL/kg of a dye-contrast solution was injected. CT imaging showed the contrast reaching the C1, C2, and C3 vertebral bodies in 3 out of 12 (3/12), 11/12, and 12/12 injections, respectively, and the C4, C5, and C6 vertebrae in 8/12, 5/12, and 1/12 injections, respectively. No contrast was detected in the epidural space. The C1, C2, C3, C4, and C5 nerves were stained in 3/12, 10/12, 8/12, 2/12, and 0/12 injections, respectively. No significant differences were observed between the groups (p > 0.05). A single US-CPP injection successfully stained the C2 and C3 nerves, indicating the potential clinical applicability, although the injected volume rarely reached C4 and C5.

Becoming a Game Studies lecturer. What is the point? We work in a field that is interdisciplinary (Deterding 2017).Yet, the ways in which our field is imagined can be relatively narrow -as in the recent UK Video Games Research Framework (UK DfCMS 2023).Here, we focus on the relationships between teaching Game Studies and the field.Ongoing questions about the field are one reason why it is important to continue to reflect on what we are doing, and why.In this paper, three games lecturers, collectively reflect on our teaching practices as a form of 'cultural work' (Freire 2005), constituting and cultivating the future of Game Studies.

In Chile, the contemporary form of academic life is irreducible to neoliberalism. There are past experiences and discourses that continue to disrupt the daily routine, dynamics, intensity, and rhythm of academics. They manifest as various epistemological, ethical, institutional, technical, and political mechanisms that produce innumerable images, meanings, and practices. These experiences conflict with the affects and material realities of the neoliberalism. The entanglement of these experiences from the past and present is conflicting, as they attempt to ignore or repress each other. In this respect, this paper addresses the following question: what is the model of academic behaviour that was established during the post-independence period in the Chilean university system? To answer this question, I explore Andres Bello's texts concerning university and academic life. The conclusion is that Bello established a specific model of academic behaviour that, with some later modifications, reconfigurations, and contradictions, returns to the present.Bello's influence today can be seen through spectres that enable and limit new possibilities for expanding academic critique within and across scholarly settings.
