Post-traumatic cerebral myiasis: the first case report in Ghana and implications for neurotrauma care in low-resource settings
Introduction and importance:Cerebral myiasis is a rare neurosurgical condition with only 21 cases reported globally. Post-traumatic forms are common in low- to middle-income countries, often arising from neglected wounds. We report the first documented case in Ghana, highlighting systemic barriers to timely neurotrauma care.Case presentation:A 7-year-old boy sustained an open comminuted skull fracture as an unhelmeted pillion rider in a tricycle collision. After a 3-day delay in wound care at a peripheral facility, he presented with a foul-smelling, sand-contaminated wound. Neurologic assessment revealed GCS 4/15, anisocoria, flaccid paralysis of all limbs, and absent plantar reflexes. The 12 × 8 cm wound overlaid the right frontal lobe with exposed brain tissue and several maggots were observed around the wound. Ten larvae were removed from wound, extensive debridement was performed, and broad-spectrum antibiotics were initiated. Despite intensive multidisciplinary care, the patient died on day 5 of admission.Clinical Discussion:While head injury of such severity requires immediate multidisciplinary care in an intensive unit, there was a lag in assessing referral centers. This was compounded by a lack of expertise in wound management and the absence of appropriate remote guidance from experts. This case highlights challenges in neurotrauma care in Ghana amidst limited and highly centralized specialist facilities.Conclusion:Post-traumatic cerebral myiasis within a hospital is a testament to weak trauma care. It emphasizes the urgent need to implement measures, such as telemedicine support for peripheral centers, improved trauma referral pathways, and capacity building in emergency stabilization.

IntroductionAwake craniotomy for removal of intra-axial tumors within or adjacent to eloquent brain regions is a well-established procedure, is routinely practiced to avoid anesthesia complication and other related cost. However, performing cartography, 3D printed of brain CT scans, use of neuronavigation for appropriate minimal craniotomy, brain stimulation, transoperative ultrasound and injection of tumour spy agent to discriminate tumour margins under surgical microscope fluorescence view is considered one of the best forms to improve quality of care.ObjectiveTo showcase benefits of awake craniotomy when combined with modern neurosurgical tools for tumour excision.MethodDescriptive analysis of 17 patients who underwent awake surgery protocol. Preoperative cartography, preoperative clinical psychology evaluation and transoperative identification of objects was done. The craniotomy was planned with neuronavigation. Trans-operative ultrasound, brain stimulation and injection of fluorescein under microscope fluorescence view were performed. CUSA aided tumor resection in some cases.FindingsWhen regional nerve blocks are successfully performed under ultrasound guidance, patients do not complain of pain during surgery. Patients underwent surgical intervention with complete macroscopic tumour excision. Minimal or no complications were recorded. All features improved post operatively. Patients were discharge between 2- 7 days following surgery and referred for adjuvant therapy. Better preservation of motor and speech functions, shorter hospitalization and reduced postoperative neurologic deficits were achieved.ConclusionAwake surgery with necessary modern neurosurgical tools help for total macroscopic tumour excision and improves patient survival. Adequate regional block is required for effective intraoperative pain control and better patient satisfaction. Appropriate patient selection, perioperative psychological support, and proper anesthetic management for individual patients in each stage of surgery are crucial for procedural safety and success. With the use of high technology equipment, the exact location of the lesions is possible through optimal keyhole craniotomy for tumour excision.

Electricity generated from municipal solid waste is renewable since this source is inexhaustible. Using solid waste to generate electricity is a better technique of managing waste as it frees landfill sites of garbage. Combustion or incineration, gasification and pyrolysis are three principal waste-to-energy methods that may be employed to convert garbage into electricity, however this paper is limited to the analysis of incineration process. This process is achieved at a very high temperature with the end result being extremely useful to the construction industries. This study was done by selecting ten most municipal solid waste (MSW) generating countries from each of the four continents (America, Europe, Asia, and Africa) in the world. This waste was aggregated into recyclable, landfilled and power produced clusters. Mathematical models were deployed to estimate electricity generated from the landfilled piles of each continent. The researchers also approximated the quantity of carbon dioxide that would have been emitted into the environment if fossil fuels (coal, crude oil and natural gas) were used to produce the total electricity from the four continents.

This study is to review virtual and in-person learning strategies. Learning to complete an intellectual programme and graduating successfully, have always been the objective of every student who embarks on an education. However, the exigencies of time (example school fees, transportation to campus and back, and learning and working simultaneously for some students) and a conducive learning environment have been enormous problems that confront students in completing their education and graduating successfully. Both qualitative (analyses) and quantitative (variance tests) were employed to thoroughly review data collected from both tertiary students in Ghana and libraries. 84% of respondents prefer virtual / online learning and 16% not; in another vein, 73% prefer in-person learning and 27% not. Moreover, 71% are in favour of virtual learning for further studies as against 29% for in-person. The above data is in response to the learning environment conducing for completing tertiary education and graduating successfully. Therefore, it can be concluded that majority of the respondents are in favour of virtual learning. Virtual learning consequently, should be promoted in tertiary institutions globally, as it is strategic for success of most students for higher education in these modern times.

ECommerce is an emerging commerce market where organisations and individuals sell and, buy goods and services through the internet using computer and smart devices. This research is to assess the low consumer trust in online trading and how to strengthen it to make consumers confident in eCommerce market. Lack of consumer trust in eCommerce stems from a consumer not receiving neither the goods nor is reimbursed immediately a virtual transaction goes bad, as this negatively impacts his / her trust. Survey design through Questionnaire was employed to collect primary data from the Accra-Tema metropolis in the Greater Accra Region, Ghana, which is popularly noted for intense eCommerce trading activities. Results from the research summarized the effective structure an eCommerce market should have - a certificate of practice and safety measures on the website, standard interface, user friendly website, and an authentic customer feedback system of accountability and equity to build trust that inform purchasing decisions. Furthermore, e-consumers should report problems to e-vendors immediately they occur, and e-vendors must follow up and rectify them ASAP. Finally, transaction problems should immediately be resolved once occurred and reported, e-vendors should encourage e-consumers to continue trading by sending them company and loyalty promotions continuously, and e-consumers should reciprocate / acknowledge the gesture of love from e-vendors for lasting consumer trustworthiness in virtual business transactions.

This study investigated the mediating role of job satisfaction in the relationship between HRM practices and organisational commitment in the hotel industry of Ghana. The study collected primary data from 21 hotels within the New Juaben North and South municipalities. The study population comprised 433 hotel employees within the municipalities. A total of 208 participants were selected using the simple random sampling method and structured questionnaires were administered to the chosen respondents. The study employed a quantitative approach and adopted the explanatory research design. The data gathered were analysed using Smart PLS-SEM 4. The findings indicated that, the relationship between recruitment and organisational commitment is statistically insignificant. Furthermore, job satisfaction does not have a mediating effect on the relationship between recruitment and organisational commitment and training and organisational commitment among hotel employees. However, it is worth noting that job satisfaction has mediation effect in the relationship between compensation and organisational commitment in the hotel industry of Ghana. The study concluded that merely attracting and selecting candidates through the recruitment process may not directly translate into higher levels of commitment within the hotel industry and recommends that management of hotels should utilize behavioural interviews that assess candidates not only for skills but also for their alignment with the hotel values and culture. This approach helps ensure that new hires are more likely to integrate well into the existing team and stay committed in the long term.

Comparative effects of exotic Raanan and local feeds on growth performances of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) reared in engineered multi-constructed ponds for efficient water use
Purpose: Growth performance of 30 randomly sampled tilapias were examined fortnightly for 12 weeks.
Research methodology: Growth of male Oreochromis niloticus in two-by-two Completely Randomized Block Design (CRBD) with four treatments [New Water with Raanan (NWR), New Water with Local feed (NWL), Old Water with Local feed (OWL) and Old Water with Raanan (OWR)] was monitored in four ponds measuring 360 m2 each. Pond Temperature, pH, Dissolved Oxygen were assessed using the multi parameter-probe. Fish total body weights and lengths were measured using electronic scale and 30 cm rule.
Results: Temperatures ranged from 26.2 °C (OWR) < 26.4 °C (OWL) < 26.5 °C (NWR) < 26.8 °C (NWL). Highest mean pH of 6.7 was recorded in NWR compared to the lowest (6.1) in NWL. Dissolved oxygen was 3.0 mg/l for all treatments, except in OWR (3.7 mg/l). There were significant differences among entire physicochemical parameters (p < 0.05). The NWR produced highest tilapia body weights (88.3 g) followed by OWL (47.9 g), NWL (47.1 g) and OWR (44.0 g). Final fish body lengths were in order of OWR (9.1 cm) < OWL (9.2 cm) < NWL (9.7 cm) < NWR (12.1 cm) respectively with significant variations. Raanan cultured tilapia grew better than the local feed comprised of energy sources.
Limitations: Null hypothesis failed to confirm significant differences in fish growths (p < 0.05).
Contribution: Use of old water is recommended in absence of fresh, if pond is completely drained/limed to eliminate leeches, tilapia eggs, fry which may infest introduced fingerlings.
