Cognitive analytic approaches in care homes for older people: Reflections on practice, potential barriers and future directions

There is growing evidence that cognitive analytic therapy (CAT) informed approaches are effective for various individuals with mental health difficulties. This paper explores the potential utility of CAT approaches in care home settings for older people who are experiencing mental health difficulties. Through reflection on my own use of CAT approaches in care homes, I will outline the potential benefits and barriers in this setting, as well as exploring future directions.
