This paper presents a method to interactively create a new Sandmannchen story. We built an application which is deployed on a smart speaker, interacts with a user, selects appropriate segments from a database of Sandmannchen episodes and combines them to generate a new story that is compatible with the user requests. The underlying video analysis technologies are presented and evaluated. We additionally showcase example results from using the complete application, as a proof of concept.

The FI-CONTENT project aims at establishing the foundation of a European infrastructure for developing and testing novel smart city services. The Smart City Services Platform will develop enabling technology for SMEs and developer to create services offering residents and visitors to cities smart services that enhance their city visit or daily life. We have made use of generic, specific and common enablers to develop a reference implementation, the Smart City Guide web app. The basic information is provided by the Open City Database, an open source specific enabler that can be used for any city in Europe. Recommendation as a Service is an enabler that can be applied to lots use cases, here we describe how we integrated it into the Smart City Guide. The uses cases will be iteratively improved and upgraded during regular iterative cycles based on feedback gained in lab and field trials at the experimentation sites. As the app is transferable to any city, it will be tested at a number of experimentation sites.

MPEG-21 is a multimedia framework well suited for asset management of broadcast content. Especially for television broadcasters, MPEG-21 has been applied as asset management standard within the Digital Broadcast Item Model (DBIM). Within the scope of this paper, the DBIM is adopted to the needs of the IST IP ENTHRONE 2. ENTHRONE 2 devotes to the Quality of Service (QoS) management from content creation to content consumption over heterogeneous networks. This paper integrates the QoS metadata management issues from ENTHRONE 2 into the DBIM. This paper describes an MPEG-21 based metadata management solution for maintaining service quality throughout a heterogeneous network environment. It provides a metadata model based on the DBIM especially focusing on the needs of ENTHRONE 2.

A converged broadcast and telecommunication service platform is presented that is able to create, deliver, and manage interactive, multimedia content and services for consumption on three different terminal types. The motivations of service providers for designing converged interactive multimedia services, which are crafted for their individual requirements, are investigated. The overall design of the system is presented with particular emphasis placed on the operational features of each of the sub-systems, the flows of media and metadata through the sub-systems and the formats and protocols required for inter-communication between them. The key features of tools required for creating converged interactive multimedia content for a range of different end-user terminal types are examined. Finally possible enhancements to this system are discussed. This study is of particular interest to those organizations currently conducting trials and commercial launches of DVB-H services because it provides them with an insight of the various additional functions required in the service provisioning platforms to provide fully interactive services to a range of different mobile terminal types
