The production of media content has undergone tremendous changes in recent years. Multiple daily content updates are just as common for some platforms as is processing the provided content specifically for their target audiences. Such features are made possible through metadata, which make information accessible by categorizing it. In conjunction with AI-supported tools, metadata are shaping the future of audio-visual content production, distribution and consumption. It allows editors to effectively search through archives like in the Tailored Media Project, broadcasters to provide content that is adapted to users' surroundings like in the ARD Audiothek unterwegs project, or give users the ability to experience audio-visual content from different perspectives like in the ORPHEUS project. Although these projects provide comprehensive insight into the potential of metadata, their integration in existing infrastructures meets several limitations. For example, content-related metadata may initially be generated at some point during the production process but will then be lost at later stages due to current standards and incomplete software implementations. In our contribution, we will discuss requirements and potential approaches and give an outlook on possible fields of application and use-cases.

Abstract The provision of terrestrial broadcast services using 3GPP technologies was enabled for the first time in LTE Advanced Pro Release (Rel‐) 14, in which the evolved Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Service (eMBMS) technology was enhanced to fulfill a wide set of requirements input by the broadcast industry. During the Enhancements for Television (EnTV) work item in Rel‐14, several modifications were realized affecting system architecture, core, and radio access, which include, an interface to grant control to broadcasters to establish audiovisual services, an application programming interface for developers to simplify access to eMBMS procedures, or a transparent delivery mode with native content formats, among others. At the radio layer, dedicated carriers with 100% broadcast content allocation, and also new OFDM numerologies to support larger intersite distances in Single Frequency Networks (SFNs), were enabled. The most significant change was the so‐called receive‐only mode which enables devices receiving broadcast content without the need for uplink capabilities, SIM cards, or network subscriptions, i.e. free‐to‐air reception.In Rel‐16, 3GPP carried out a study item to evaluate EnTV Rel‐14 against the terrestrial broadcast requirements for 5G defined in 3GPP TR 38.913. Two requirements were detected as not met: the ability to support SFNs with cell radii of up to 100 km and mobile reception with speeds up to 250 km h−1. A Rel‐16 work item standardized further improvements while taking into account practical considerations such as implementation complexity and performance. The improved system is known as LTE‐based 5G Terrestrial Broadcast, and also with the popular name 5G Broadcast.

Eine Nachrichtensendung muss sinnvoll gegliedert sein. Die erste Meldung, der „Aufmacher“, muss die wichtigste sein. Doch wie oft durfen Meldungen wiederholt, wann muss aktualisiert werden? Die Dramaturgie eines Nachrichtentages lasst sich auch grafisch darstellen.

Gesprochene Texte werden ganz anders wahrgenommen als Gedrucktes. Alle Botschaften mussen auf Anhieb verstanden werden. Nachschlagen geht nicht und das Kurzzeitgedachtnis speichert nur wenige Sekunden. Zudem werden Radionachrichten meist „nebenher“ gehort – das hat Konsequenzen furs Formulieren.

Social media, in the recent years, has become the main source of information regarding society’s feedback on events that shape the everyday life. The social web is where journalists look to find how people respond to the news they read but is also the place where politicians and political analysts would look to find how societies feel about political decisions, politicians, events and policies that are announced. This work reports on the design and evaluation of a search and retrieval interface for socially enriched web archives. The considerations on the end user requirements regarding the social content are presented as well as the approach on the design and testing using a large collection of web documents.
