Generalised Morrey (function) spaces enjoyed some interest recently and found applications to PDE. Here we turn our attention to their discrete counterparts. We define generalised Morrey sequence spaces mφ,p=mφ,p(Zd). They are natural generalisations of the classical Morrey sequence spaces mu,p, 0<p≤u<∞, which were studied earlier. We consider some basic features of the spaces as well as embedding properties such as continuity, compactness and strict singularity.

Psilocybin, the natural hallucinogen from Psilocybe (magic) mushrooms, is a highly promising drug candidate for the treatment of depression and several other mental health conditions. Biosynthesis of psilocybin from the amino acid l-tryptophan involves four strictly sequential modifications. The third of these, ATP-dependent phosphorylation of the intermediate 4-hydroxytryptamine, is catalysed by PsiK. Here we present a crystallographic analysis and a structure-based mutagenesis study of this kinase, providing insight into its mode of substrate recognition. The results of our work will support future bioengineering efforts aimed at generating variants of psilocybin with enhanced therapeutic properties.

Scandium (Sc) is a rare element that finds uses in modern technologies. Thermodynamic properties of Sc phases could help in the development of innovative technologies to extract Sc from mining waste. In this work, we investigated the FeOOH–ScOOH solid solution with the goethite structure. The end members and five intermediate compositions were synthesized and characterized. The lattice parameters show that the solid solution is non-ideal, with complex behavior induced by the Fe–Sc substitution. The excess unit-cell volume deviates negatively for the Sc-rich region, and positively for the Fe-rich region from the ideal behavior (Vegard’s law). Enthalpies of dissolution were determined by acid-solution calorimetry in 5 mol·dm-3 HCl at T = 343.15 K. Enthalpies of mixing (ΔmixH), calculated from the experimental data, are small and positive. The available data allow for fitting the data as ΔmixH=Wx(1-x), with the mixing parameter W=15.2±1.0 kJ·mol-1. Using ΔfGo of ScOOH from earlier literature, we calculated a Lippmann diagram that shows that Sc should strongly partition into the aqueous phase upon goethite precipitation. The field observations from lateritic profiles show that Sc is primarily harbored by goethite via adsorption. It seems that under weathering conditions, thermodynamically driven partitioning of Sc3+ into the aqueous phases and its subsequent adsorption onto goethite surfaces controls the mobility of Sc in the weathering profiles.

The bloom and bust patterns of microalgae in aquatic systems contribute massively to global biogeochemical cycles. The decline of algal blooms is mainly caused by nutrient limitation resulting in cell death, the arrest of cell division and the aging of surviving cells. Nutrient intake can re-initiate proliferation, but the processes involved are poorly understood. Here we characterize how the bloom-forming diatom Coscinodiscus radiatus recovers from starvation after nutrient influx. Rejuvenation is mediated by extracellular vesicles that shuttle reactive oxygen species, oxylipins and other harmful metabolites out of the old cells, thereby re-enabling their proliferation. By administering nutrient pulses to aged cells and metabolomic monitoring of the response, we show that regulated pathways are centred around the methionine cycle in C. radiatus. Co-incubation experiments show that bacteria mediate aging processes and trigger vesicle production using chemical signalling. This work opens new perspectives on cellular aging and rejuvenation in complex microbial communities.

Introduction: Arrhythmias are common in pediatric cardiology patients, yet prevalence during hospitalizations and treatments are poorly defined. This descriptive study reports arrhythmia prevalence and medical management from Pediatric Acute Care Cardiology Collaborative (PAC 3 ) centers. Aims Our primary aim is to describe prevalence and outcomes of treated arrhythmias among acute care cardiology units (ACCU). Secondary aims include comparison of medical vs. post-operative admissions and selection of antiarrhythmics. Methods: We performed a multi-center retrospective review of the PAC 3 registry limited to hospitalized patients with an arrhythmia treated from 2/2019-2/2023 among 33 centers. Arrhythmias are classified in the registry as Atrial Tachycardia/Supraventricular Tachycardia (AT/SVT), Junctional Tachycardia (JT), or Ventricular Tachycardia (VT). Descriptive statistics, Wilcoxon-Mann-Whitney, and χ2 testing were used. Results: Prevalence of treated arrhythmia in the cohort (n=38,396) was 5.4% (n=2,090 patients) over 2291 hospitalizations. AT /SVT (68.3%) were more frequent than VT (21.5%) or JT (2.8%) (p&lt;0.01). Bradyarrhythmias (7.5%) were infrequent. Of 8,733 CICU transfers, 513 (5.9 %) transfers of 257 patients (2.0 transfers/patient) were due to arrhythmia. Medical and Surgical patients varied in demographics and outcomes (Table). For AT/SVT, propranolol was the most prescribed antiarrhythmic, followed by sotalol. (Figure). Conclusions: Treated arrhythmias are prevalent in ACCU patients and are a relatively frequent cause of ICU transfers. Arrhythmia treatment patterns warrant further investigation and could be the subject of QI.

Action control theories assume that upon responding to a stimulus response and stimulus features are integrated into a short episodic memory trace; repeating any component spurs on retrieval, affecting subsequent performance. The resulting so-called “binding effects” are reliably observed in discrimination tasks. In contrast, in localization performance, these effects are absent and only inhibition of return (IOR) emerges – a location change benefit. Affective information has been found to modulate binding effects; yet a modulation of IOR has led to mixed results, with many finding no influence at all. In the current study, participants discriminated letters (Experiment 1) or localized dots (Experiment 2) on a touchpad in prime-probe sequences. During the prime display two images – one with fruits and one with a spider – appeared, one of which spatially congruent with the to-be-touched area. In the discrimination task, previously touching a spider compared to a fruit slowed down response repetitions. In contrast, the localization task only showed IOR. This suggests that task-irrelevant valence is integrated with the response and affects subsequent responses due to retrieval. However, this is not ubiquitous but depends on task type. The results shed further light on the impact of affective information on actions.

In this study, we morphologically examine larval specimens of Ranitomeya variabilis, which were breed in captivity and genetically determined to belong to the French Guiana population. We provide detailed data on the external morphology, chondrocranium, cranial muscle systems and inner organs of the tadpoles. Additionally, we provide essential characteristics for the recognition of the tadpoles of the different Ranitomeya species. The external morphology of the R. variabilis tadpoles was assessed by measurements and photographs of the specimens. Internal morphology was analyzed using µCT images, µCT-based three-dimensional reconstructions, and dissection of specimens for organ and muscle descriptions. The majority of the muscle configurations observed herein for larval specimens of R. variabilis are consistent with data presented in previous studies for larvae of other Ranitomeya species. In addition, several of the observed morphological characters are defined for different taxonomic levels within Dendrobatidae, e.g., the reduction of tectal cartilages and the insertion of the M. rectus cervicis on the third or fourth branchial arch. The absence of the anterolateral process of the ceratohyal in Ranitomeya and Dendrobates further strengthens their close relationship, in contrast to the more distantly related Epipedobates and Phyllobates where this structure is present. The absence of the M. levator arcuum branchialium I and II, the M. interhyoideus posterior and the M. diaphragmatopraecordialis might be defining traits for Ranitomeya. The specific characters observed in this study for R. variabilis, are the fusion of the superficialis and profundus portion of the musculus levator longus larvae and the absence of the parotic crista.

The number of publications describing chemical structures has increased steadily over the last decades. However, the majority of published chemical information is currently not available in machine-readable form in public databases. It remains a challenge to automate the process of information extraction in a way that requires less manual intervention - especially the mining of chemical structure depictions. As an open-source platform that leverages recent advancements in deep learning, computer vision, and natural language processing, DECIMER.ai (Deep lEarning for Chemical IMagE Recognition) strives to automatically segment, classify, and translate chemical structure depictions from the printed literature. The segmentation and classification tools are the only openly available packages of their kind, and the optical chemical structure recognition (OCSR) core application yields outstanding performance on all benchmark datasets. The source code, the trained models and the datasets developed in this work have been published under permissive licences. Bauer und freier Journalist, ist am 19. März 2003 in seinem hohenlohischen Heimatort Eckartshausen bei Ilshofen im Alter von 75 Jahren gestorben. Sein reger Geist begeisterte schon den Volksschüler für Schiller, später war Bertolt Brecht sein Vorbild, in letzter Zeit las er viel in den Schriften von Walter Benjamin, Alexander Kluge und Oskar Negt. Zum Lesen kam bei dem Landwirt, der den Hof seines Vaters übernommen hatte, ein eigenständiges Nachdenken über die Grundlagen seines Berufsstandes, ein bohrendes, der Aufklärung verhaftetes Eindringen in die Probleme der Gesellschaft und ein erstaunliches Einfühlen in künstlerische Welten. Mit Vorliebe rezensierte er für die Tageszeitungen der Region Theateraufführungen und besprach Kunstausstellungen, schrieb für das «Landwirtschaftliche Wochenblatt» und auch für diese Zeitschrift, so über den Hohenloher Weihnachtsbrauch der Rollesel und die Gaggstatter Jugendstilkirche von Theodor Fischer. Bis zu seinem Tod war Hans Roth auch Mitglied des Ilshofer Gemeinderats. Am 7. Mai 1991 wurde in Gaggstatt die renovierte Pfarrscheuer eingeweiht. Dazu hatte Pfarrer Willi Mönikheim, heute der Leiter der Evangelischen Heimvolkshochschule Hohebuch bei Waldenburg, einige Persönlichkeiten zu einer Diskussionsrunde über die Probleme im ländlichen Raum eingeladen. Auch den damals noch aktiven Bauern Hans Roth, der seine Vision vortragen sollte. Hier der Wortlaut seines Beitrags. Meine Vision des ländlichen Raums. Als mich Pfarrer Willi Mönikheim fragte, ob ich dazu eine Viertelstunde lang etwas sagen würde, musste ich lachen, nachdem ich den Hörer aufgelegt hatte: Eine Vision kann ein paar Sekunden dauern oder ein Leben lang anhalten. Fünfzehn Minuten sind dafür geplant. Der zweite Grund meiner Erheiterung liegt im Titel selbst. Die Überschrift tritt zu sich selbst in Konkurrenz. Wenn ich Vision höre, fällt mir die Apokalypse des Johannes ein, vielleicht noch die Schau des Moses ins verheißene Land. Höre ich «ländlicher Raum», sehe ich einen Bürgermeister mit Maßstablineal und Flurkarte hantieren. Zwei konkurrierende Begriffe also. Konkurrenz belebt das Geschäft, sagt man. Das Geschäft belebt sie schon, aber was sonst? Hegel hat gesagt, sie, die Konkurrenz, sei auf den Tod des Anderen aus. Gemeint ist, dass unter den jeweils gegebenen Umständen -«Rahmenbedingungen» -der Stärkere siegt. Wenn ich, und ich soll ja von mir reden, die Bezeichnung ländlicher Raum höre, wird mir schlecht, -und das ist kein guter Zustand für Visionen. Vision heißt Schau, man hält oder kriegt sie, wenn das Denken, rationale Überlegungen, verdrängt sind und einer in eine prophetische Zusammenschau eintritt, vielleicht in eine totale Wunschvorstellung. Verzweiflung vielleicht, sicher eine tief gehende, bewusste Unzufriedenheit in der gegebenen Situation, ist die Grundlage von Visionen, die, wie man hört, ein Glücksgefühl verströmen. Allerdings nicht sättigen, vor allem nicht die geweckten Bedürfnisse: Den gesicherten Arbeitsplatz in Wohnortnähe, den mit dem Ballungsraum Stuttgart vergleichbaren Lohn, die Einkaufsmöglichkeit zu Discountpreisen, das Auto für jedes Familienmitglied plus einem Reservefahrzeugein Auto könnte ja mal nicht anspringen, und was dann? -und die dafür notwendigen Straßen, und vor allem das Eigenheim. Das aber steht nie im ländlichen Raum, der Besitzer wohnt auf dem Land, das ist seine kleine Vision. Lebensqualität auf dem Land ist ein Kostenfaktortrotz Industrie ein «Biofilter der Industriegesellschaft» Wenn wir den ländlichen Raum betrachten, stehen wir also vor Planungsaufgaben. Meist sind es Planungsaufgaben, die aus erfüllten Planungszielen resultieren. Als erstes waren die Schulen dran. Kaum waren neue gebaut, wurden die Schüler in Schul-Hans Roth, Bauer und. freier Journalist.
