Fuzzy Set-Based Estimation of Closed-Die Forging Load Using the Shop Floor Data
A Methodology for Data-Driven Estimation of Forging Load
Abstract Metal forming industry often requires to estimate forging load. Analytical and numerical techniques are not sufficient to provide an accurate estimation of the forging load. Interestingly, a large amount of shop floor forging data exists that are yet to be effectively utilised. Modelling using data-driven techniques can take care of the uncertainty associated with flow stress and friction condition. This article proposes a methodology that uses the existing information of axisymmetric forged products for the estimation of forging load by suggesting a proper value of complexity factor. Appropriate complexity factor is essential for empirically estimating the forging load in open as well as closed die forging. Estimation of forging load for open die forging is carried out for four different materials of cylindrical shape. In case of closed die forging, estimation of forging load is carried out for two different products. Forging load estimation is carried out for different sizes and for different friction conditions. The proposed methodology of using the existing data provides reasonable accuracy in the prediction of forging load.KeywordsForging loadComplexity factorFrictionOpen die forgingClosed die forgingAxisymmetric product

Abstract This work undertakes research problem on prediction of state of battery modules used in electric vehicle. Past studies focussed extensively on the estimation of state of charge and state of health of a single cell/battery. However, the focus on the estimation of state of entire battery module is hardly studied. During the actual operation of electric vehicle, the environmental conditions (road slope and climate) and factors such as abnormal voltage and temperature conditions causes the deviations among the battery modules from its equilibrium state. As a result, its power efficiency and the life‐cycle decreases. One of the reasons of deviation is the defects in manufacturing of a battery module. For this purpose, the evaluation and estimation of state of battery modules is a priority to have information on which module among the given ones should be discharged first. Therefore, this study proposes the methodology for the evaluation of state of battery modules based on its current and temperature. Firstly, the rules are defined based on experiments to determine the priority for the discharge of each of the six modules. Dataset of 6000 samples obtained comprises of the 12 inputs (temperature and current) and 6 outputs (on‐off state of switch). Each output represents the priority of module to be discharged. To analyze this multi‐input multi‐output dataset, the popular artificial intelligence algorithm namely, artificial neural network with three training algorithms (Levenberg, Scaled conjugate and Bayesian regularization), using a number of neurons from 2 to 20 in the hidden layer is used. It was found that the model obtained using Levenberg algorithm performs the best.

Analysis on natural contamination depositing characteristics of imitative insulator string for overhead transmission line in Shantou
Under drizzle, light rain, heavy fog and other adverse weather conditions, polluted insulators may flashover under an operating voltage which serious threat to reliable operation of power systems. Therefore, it is very important to understand the natural pollution accumulating rule of insulator energized in the operating voltage. This paper takes the XP-70 insulator string being suspended without voltage in a certain power network in Shantou as the sample, tests and analyzes the pollution depositing rules of it. Test results indicate that: The performance of natural pollution deposit is related to geographic location and voltage class. The accumulation rate of non-soluble salt deposit density (NSDD) on the surface of insulator is more serious than that of equivalent salt deposit density (ESDD). The pollution depositing situation of insulator is different under different voltage classes, the pollution accumulating situation of the 110kV line is the most severe, while that of the 220kV line is a bit lighter and the 500 kV line is the lightest. The pollution levels of transmission lines in Shantou area are mainly c and d. The test results can be used to draw the map of pollution areas, help workers to clean insulators and direct external insulation coordination and design in the pollution area.

This research introduces a robust design approach using engineering models described by implicit mathematical functions. In this paper, the scheme to describe the engineering models using implicit functions is explained first. The relationships between product functional performance variations and design parameters are then derived from these implicit functions. An optimal robust design model is subsequently introduced to minimize functional performance variation. A case study is given to illustrate the effectiveness of the robust design approach with engineering models described by implicit mathematical functions.

SUMMARYThe evaluation of joint velocity, torque, and power capability of the 8-PSS redundant parallel manipulator is investigated in this paper. A series of new joint capability indices with obvious physical meanings are presented. The torque index used to evaluate the respective joint dynamic capability of the redundant parallel manipulator is decoupled into the acceleration, velocity, and gravity term. With these velocity, torque, and power indices, it is possible to control the respective joint capability of the redundant parallel manipulator in different directions. The indices have been applied to evaluate the joint capability of the redundant parallel manipulator by simulation. They are general and can be used for other types of parallel manipulators.
