Development and test of a lane change prediction algorithm for automated driving
Due to a large number of integrated advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) the driver nowadays can hand over the driving task to the vehicle in specific, monotone driving scenarios. Short reaction times and the constant awareness of the computer reduces the number of accidents and thus increases safety. Currently available ADAS still need to be constantly monitored by the driver in case a situation appears that cannot be handled properly by the system.

Accuracy Evaluation of the Coupled Eulerian-Lagrangian Method in Abaqus/Explicit Using a Passenger Airbag Model
Computer simulations are widely used in modern automotive industry to design effective restraint systems, such as airbags. Until recently, the uniform pressure method (UPM), which assumes uniform pressure distributions inside the airbag, is mostly used in the design of airbags. The uniform pressure method is appropriate with fully inflated airbags interacting with in-position or belted occupants. However, with recent safety regulations for protecting occupants of various sizes and seating positions as well as the implementation of side airbags, Out-of-Positions (OOP) simulations are becoming more and more important for airbag suppliers and the OEMs. To simulate OOP cases, gas flow approaches are implemented in various commercial finite element codes in different forms. This paper discusses the recent developments in the Coupled Eulerian-Lagrangian (CEL) method for airbag deployment simulations available in Abaqus/Explicit. A passenger airbag model was selected for the evaluation of accuracy of the CEL method. This paper also discusses some advanced Coupled Eulerian-Lagrangian method features available in Abaqus/Explicit in order to facilitate efficient occupant safety simulations.

Read moreFrom Probabilistic Counterexamples via Causality to Fault Trees
In recent years, several approaches to generate probabilistic counterexamples have been proposed. The interpretation of stochastic counterexamples, however, continues to be problematic since they have to be represented as sets of paths, and the number of paths in this set may be very large. Fault trees (FTs) are a well-established industrial technique to represent causalities for possible system hazards resulting from system or system component failures. In this paper we suggest a method to automatically derive FTs from counterexamples, including a mapping of the probability information onto the FT. We extend the structural equation approach by Pearl and Halpern, which is based on Lewis counterfactuals, so that it serves as a justification for the causality that our proposed FT derivation rules imply. We demonstrate the usefulness of our approach by applying it to an industrial case study.KeywordsModel CheckActual WorldCausal ProcessBasic EventFault TreeThese keywords were added by machine and not by the authors.
